Cross Domain Tracking for multiple sub-domains with multi-lingual and culture versions
-
Hi,
I have a question regarding cross-domain tracking that I haven't seen answered completely elsewhere.
A client has a main domain, we'll say www.example.com and 4 or 5 sub-domains e.g. shop.example.com, support.example.com, account.example.com and service.example.com. The different sub-domains are managed by different third parties, with just www.example.com and account.example.com under our control.
To add a further dimension, these sites all have multi-lingual versions as folders and in some cases multi-cultural versions e.g. www.example.com/de/ for Germany and www.example.com/ch-de/ for German-speaking Swiss.
Not every language/culture has an equivalent site in place for each of the sub-domains e.g. the UK support site serves Denmark and Swiss-German users will use the German site:
www.example.com/dk/ links to support.example.com/uk/ for support-based content
www.example.com/ch-de/ links to support.example.com/de/At present, they use different analytics tracking codes and accounts. Moving forward, they would like to consolidate the data together to be able to see the collective and separate performances. They would also like to be able to see goal completions from referrals when someone clicks from the main domain to the sub-domain or across sub-domains or potentially across language and culture too.
I have several questions I would really appreciate some guidance on:
- What will be the best way to configure Google Analytics to achieve this?
- Will we need to decorate the HTML links in between each of the sites?
- Will we need to use a new Google Analytics property?
It may not be easy to answer this based on the information above, so I'm happy to provide additional information if required.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Many thanks, I will have a little look at the link you sent.

Hi!
I saw you asked - without success - this question also in Google Forums and Stack Exchange.
Sincerely, my first answer should be that should exist only one GA tracking code enabled for tracking subdomains, and that all the parties working with the client will need to have access to the same Analytics profile.
That would be the best for the client too, because so it will have just one GA profile, even if under it different views (one for subdomain and, eventually, one for each one of their multilingual/country facet).
This post explains quite well how to do that.
If you are wondering how and who should do it, then, we are entering more in a organization issue more than implementation one.
Logic says that - once the client has been informed about the importance of creating a consistent view of the analytics data from you - it should be the client telling to all the providers to coordinate between themselves for optimizing the GA implementation. If the order comes from the Client, and not being you asking the other providers to use just one GA code for subdomains, nobody could say no.
I'm sorry, but I cannot offer you a better answer than this one.

Multiple GA codes, one site.
Hi all, Is anyone running two GA codes on one website successfully? My organisation own a number of websites so we used to have one global GA code on all our sites to track global stats, and then we would also have site unique GA on each property to just track that one property. This worked fine, but of late we seem to be getting no data from the globally based code. Obviously, with the site-specific codes we can enter the name for that domain in GA but for the overall code, it is called 'all.com' I'm wondering if Google has now tied the GA domain to the code or if we are doing something wrong. All the codes are the same as they always were but have stopped working. As a stop gap, we have swapped to using Piwik as the all.com code. However, we are then comparing the stats in two different analytics programs so will get a different result. Also, it would be nice to be able to add the all.com to tools such as this to generate weekly reports. Anyone else having GA woe like this? Thanks. Carl

Tracking Organic Traffic and Conversions from multiple TLDs with Google Tag Manager
Hello Guys, I want to track traffic / conversions from different domains (basically same brand - but a lot of different TLD's). The "problem" is that the main conversion which I want to track always happens on the .com TLD and all other TLD's link to there. The problem is, that now the traffic always counts as Referral Traffic, even after setting up cross domain tracking over the google tag manager... So example: Sessions begins on example.co.uk/landing-page11 after User searched on it on google. He decides to buy the product and therefore moves to example.com for the checkout process. No I will have the conversion in my google analytics under referral with example.co.uk. --> but I want to have it under organic, and not under referral. How I can manage this? Thanks for you Help!

Can not divide in different properties a domain in Search Console (Webmaster Tools)
Dear Moz Community, I hope you can give me a hand with the following questions. Im in charge of SEO of an ecommerce site in LATAM. It´s service is available in several countries, therefore each country has it subdirectory Eg. /ar /pe /co /bo /cl /br,etc... (in the future we will move to differente ccTLDs). I have been recomended to split or create different Search Console or Webmaster Tools properties (one for each subdirectory) but when Im creating a new property with a subdirectory, lets say www.domain.com/ar, Webmaster tools starts creating a property for www.domain.com/ar/ (NOTICE THE LAST SLASH) and it returns since that page doesn´t exist, what do you recomend me to do? Best wishes, Pablo Lòpez C

Goal Tracking In Analytics On Separate Ordering Website
I have a question for any Google Analytics wizards out there. We have two clients that have a similar complication when it comes to tracking goal conversions in Analytics. Basically, all the conversion actions we want to track occur on a separate website; either an iframe embedded on the page or through an entirely different ordering website. Trick is, Analytics sees the source for all these conversions as referrals from the main site. We'd like to get visibility back to the original source/medium that brought visitors to the site before they converted. Anyone have a suggestion for making that happen?

Spider 404 errors linked to purchased domain
Hi, My client purchased a domain which based on the seller "promising lots of traffic". Subsequent investigation showed it was a scam and that the seller had been creative in Photoshop with some GA reports. Nevertheless, my client had redirected the acquired domain to their primary domain (via the domain registrar). From the period on which the acquired domain was redirected to the point when we removed the redirect, the web log files had a high volume of spider/bot 404 errors relating to an online pharmaacy - viagra, pills etc. The account does not seem to have been hacked. No additional files are present and the rest of the logs seem normal. As soon as the redirect was removed the spider 404 errors stopped. Aside from the advice about acquiring domains promising traffic which I've already discussed with my client, does anybody have any ideas about how a redirect could cause the 404 errors? Thanks
