My website has dropped in the rankings drastically. How can I get it back up the SERPs?
-
I manage a website that I took over 6 months ago - the site was sitting happily on page one of google so I haven't had to do much to keep it there - other than a few onsite improvements.
However, last week the site dropped off the SERPs.
The site is http://www.pro-techairconditioning.co.uk/content/home.html
Could someone please suggest reasons for this and ways to solve the problem?
Thanks

Thanks for the response.
The link profile is something I am currently working on - but I am new to SEO and am struggling to find good relevant links.
Any tips?
Thanks

I completely agree with Ruben and Tim. You need original, unique informative content. It is such bad practice to not touch your site simply because it is ranking well. You have to keep content fresh and update the site. Stagnation is never good. Even having a blog will help you keep content fresh.
What kind of social presence do you have? Are you posting enough to have valid social signals? I would beef up social engagement, add a blog and get some relevant backlinks.

As per Ruben, the site you are managing is lacking any credibile relevant links to the site, without these preferably naturally occuring quality links, your site is not being seen as an authority in its field. As such this is something you can certainly look into rectifying, but it is no easy fix and will take a lot of hard work and the creation of quality content.
Link profile can be looked into here
Secondly and this is my own personal opinion but the site to me lacks some more natural copy that is targeted to the end consumer, it feels very much like it has simply been created with a tone just for Google and may possibly be being targeted for an over optimisation penalty, especially for the term Air conditioning which appears so many times.
You could also think about adding more relevant copy around the products you install, benefits, features etc. A blog might be useful for this. Finally I would also think about establishing some social channels for the site and local presences in Bing and Google.
Also check out the webmaster elements that Ruben mentioned - sitemaps, 404 errors etc

Well, your homepage doesn't have a lot of content, nor does it have many links. The links you do have are mostly from a website design company.
First, I would check your GWT to see if you received any penalty notifications. It's hard to say if you have been hit with one or not. The drop in rankings your described may suggest one, but, (at least by the brief look at the link I saw and the content I read) your site doesn't look spammy. It just doesn't have a lot there to get ranked highly in the first place.
I would add some more detail/quality length to my homepage, and pursue some link opportunities that relate to either Air conditioning, your location or both.
Best,
Ruben

Upgarded woocommerce 2 to 3 and saw a large drop in rank
Hi guys, I recently upgraded from woocommerce 2 to v3 and rankings have been plummeting. I have double checked all of the schema, markup, technical, speed, etc and it all seems to be the same. The on thing that I did find is that while there used to be about 400 images (products) there are now over 1500 images in the index as all of the thumbnails are not in the sitemap. Would / could this cause the issue? Can i remove all the thumbs from the sitemap? if so any suggestions on how (google returns very little to nothing regarding this). Should i alt text every thumbnail..... Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Can a .ly domain rank in the United States?
Hello members. I have a question that I am seeking to confirm whether or not I am on the right track. I am interested in purchasing a .ly domain which is the ccTLD for Libya. The purpose of the .ly domain would be for branding purposes however at the same time I do not want to kill the websites ability to rank in Google.com (United States searches) because of this domain. Google does not consider .ly to be one of those generic ccTLDs like. io, .cc, .co, etc. that can rank and Bitly has also moved away from the .ly extension to a .com extension. Back in 2011 when there was unrest in Lybia, a few well known sites that utilized the .ly extension had their domains confiscated such as Letter.ly, Advers.ly and I think Bitly may have been on that list too however with the unrest behind us it is possible to purchase a .ly so being able to obtain one is not an issue. From what I can tell, I should be able to specify in Google Search Console that the website utilizing the .ly extension is a US based website. I can also do this with Google My Business and I will keep the Whois info public so the whois data can been seen as a US based website. Based on everything I just said do any of you think I will be OK if I were to register and use the .ly domain extension and still be able to rank in Google.com (US Searches). Confirmation would help me sleep better. Thanks in advance everyone and have a great day!!

A/B Split Testing - Rankings Drop? Need an expert opinion...
We are running an A/B split test (Started on 12/12), and a few days after we started the test, we fell from position 9/10 (about 3 weeks on page 1) to position 11/13, and we've been there ever since. We are still running the test. We disallowed the test page in robots.txt, but that's all. no canonical no noindex

-no Google Experiments code. Theoretically, Google could crawl the site, and find the page, but then the page is disallowed. The alternate page is not indexed. Could this explain the rankings drop?1 -

Dropped ranking - Penguin penalty or duplicate content issue?
Just this weekend a page that had been ranking well for a competitive term fell completely out of the rankings. There are two possible causes and I'm trying to figure out which it is, so I can take action. I found out that I had accidentally put a canonical on another page that was for the same page as the one that dropped out of the rankings. If there are two pages with the same canonical tag with different content, will google drop both of them from the index? The other possibility is that this is a result of the recent Penguin update. The page that dropped has a high amount of exact anchor text. As far as I can tell, there were no other pages with any penalties from the Penguin update. One last question: The page completely dropped from the search index. If this were a Penguin issue, would it have dropped out completely,or just been penalized with a drop in position? If this is a result of the conflicting canonical tags, should I just wait for it to reindex, or should I request a reconsideration of the page?

Drop in rankings, next step
So based on a question asked yesterday, I am wondering what my next step is. Yesterday's question was, I have made updates to Title and Meta Descriptions for my client's site and suddenly they are not showing up in the top 50 for numerous keywords that they used to. The only words in the page source that were edited were "fluff" words that were replaced with relevant keywords reflected in much of the on-page copy yet now the client is not showing up. Ideas? From responses and research, it seems there's a lag time in Google to pick up the updated titles/info and these changes can cause a drop in rankings for a short time - however, I can't very well turn to my client and say sorry your website isn't showing up for a few weeks...wondering what my next step should be, or is there a greater issue I'm missing.
