SEO for a Domain which contains Multiple individual sites
-
My website structure
www.example.com (wordpress installation number 1)
www.example.com/forum/ (vbulletin installtion)
www.example.com/shop/ (wordpress installation number 2)Each of these individual pages contains a fresh wordpress/vbulletin installation with their individual admin control panel.
- Am i doing this website entirely wrong?
- Is my website considered as a single website or does Google classify it as 3 different websites?
- My Ranking page is, www.example.com, and by blog post is www.example.com/forum/blog. When i do a link within my blog entry to my main ranking page, does it count as external or internal link?

Hi Kevin
Looks like you have some great answers here. I'll just add my 2 cents as well:
- Not doing it wrong at all.
- Google will consider it the same site for sure if it's all under sub-folders and not sub-domains. They will even consider sub-domains "one site" so long as you have consistent design, navigation, UX etc.
- This would count as an internal link.
- Not doing it wrong at all.

Adding to what Keszi said:
1 & 2) If that's what is required for your site then it's fine - it's quite common for a Magento e-commerce site to run a WordPress blog. As long as the different CMS installs are in sub-folders and not sub-domains, you should treat them as a single website.
3) Viewing /forum/blog/ doesn't require people to login? As long as the link can be crawled (if it requires login then it won't be crawled by search engines) it will be counted as an internal link - doesn't matter if it's coming from a different CMS install.

Hi Kevin,
In my opinion, you aren't doing anything wrong by having 3 engines running one domain. Just do not over-complicate it for yourself in the future.
Having 3 installations (2 wordpress and 1 forum) doesn't count as three different sites, it will be part of the same site (and even some people won't tell the difference).
If you check out Moz, for example, you will see that they have different parts of their website split up in "individual" parts (Moz Blog, YouMoz, Community, etc. etc. etc.). That doesn't mean that they have so many websites. They have 1 Domain, that is all.
Might be, that they also run it from different engines (I do not know), but it could be done.
Now, if I put here a link towards Moz homepage, that will count as an internal page.
I hope this has cleared up a little-bit.
Gr., Keszi

SEO and auto login with redirect
Hi, we have a site where user we know (cookie-based) is automatic redirected to private internal page. Unknown guests are staying on the page google search sent them. The redirect is done with a 302 to the private page. When I examine organic search and landing pages in analytics I see that more than 50% of the landing pages are private pages (inaccessible for the google-bot). This is because analytics does not register the redirecting page, just the target page. Is this harmful to SEO that so many users are redirected to other pages, or is this data not available to google-bot. The google bots is not redirect since they do not have the correct credentials. Do chrome or analytics send such data back to Google search? Is better to manipulate analytics page track call to use the address of the redirecting page? Or maybe skip to redirect, and just render the private content on the orginal page?

Multiple Cities in Title Tag
My question is how to avoid having a spammy title. Currently I'm working on a project where a business serves four cities, but two of them are out of its home state. I'm trying to create a title tag that is appealing to the eyes, and meets what I need it to do at the same time. I was wondering what everyone though of this sample Brand X Dealer Serving Newark, DE; New Castle, DE; Glens Mills, PA; and Springfield, PA I know that too much repetition can be a bad thing, but this might not be a big deal since they are separate instances. Let me know what you all think. Thanks!

Wordpress SEo Plug In
Hi, I am researching SEO plug ins for Wordpress - WordpressSEO by Yoast and All-In-One SEO Pack - and I have a question about implementation: In general, what is the impact these plug ins have on blogs with a large archives? Will they make any changes to old posts that may break incoming links or require me to go back and make edits to each of the old posts? Also, the main thing I want to do is allow for custom total tags. Is there another way to get this functionality? Or should I stick with a plug in because of all the other SEO benefits? Thanks

Seo'ing Sub domains for images
We are currently adding some performance improvement to our websites, to improve user experience. One of the things we are looking at is splitting of images over several sub-domains, to increase the number of images that can be downloaded at the same. We have seen that using key phrases within image names has an improvement in rankings. So, the question is should we create sub-domains as key-phrase.example.co.uk or as i1.example.co.uk? K
