Force youtube video to appear in search?
-
Hi,
I haven't done much Youtube optimization yet, and now I have a Youtube project. I was wondering if one can "force" Google to display a video on an organic SERP that originally did not include any videos at all?
Thanks for thoughts!

Hi,
One actually can't "force" Google to rank a site or a video, what would advise is one to EARN the right to be Ranked and Indexed by Google, this will be a more fruitful way of to approach this. The "forcing" attitude is more of a decade ago mentality unlike for one in 2015, of which may put you in contravention of Google's Webmaster guidelines. Leading to your site being DE-indexed from Google.
What would advise is to highly optimize your YouTube page, have links pointing to it, get thousands of people viewing the YouTube Video, create Original Content, even promote the YouTube Video and without a doubt, it will be indexed and ranked by Google.

Hey Martinj,
Thanks. And how do you link it? Is linking the Youtube page better or embedding the video? Or are they equally effective?
-
If you would optimize your video really well in terms of content, description, transcription and point a lot of valuable links to it then most certainly it will start ranking in the search results as well.

Video SEO, should I do what Roger does?
As per http://www.seomoz.org/blog/hosting-and-embedding-for-video-seo I want to rank with a rich snippet and improve my domain's overall ranking. So I am going to ignore YouTube and use Vimeo Pro (using old embed code). I will also submit a video XML sitemap and implement schema markup. Gotcha. Now let's check this strategy with what SEOmoz is doing. Let's take 5 Steps to Facebook Advertising - Whiteboard Friday it was uploaded onto the SEOmoz blog on 29 March 2013. Then on 4 April 2013 it was uploaded onto YouTube. As at 7 April 2013 (PST) I am not seeing the latest SEOmoz Whiteboard Friday Evolution of the Local Algorithm - Whiteboard Friday posted on YouTube. SEOmoz blog has a person written transcription, YouTube has an automatic transcript. There is a link to the SEOmoz comments below the YouTube Video. Cricky! They've gone all YouTube. Stop the boat. Or should I? My assumption is that SEOmoz is big enough so that it is willing to risk losing a few links to their YouTube webpages. Indeed they delay posting the video on YouTube for a week after it has been posted on the SEOmoz blog. What's more it ensures that there is a very good transcript on their blog. Top that off with comments (and I assume video sitemap and schema) and it is happy it will gain more from the traffic generated from the YouTube community than the potential loss of links to its domain, forgoing potential domain authority increases and resulting traffic. So Roger, I'm a little boat not a SEOmoz battleship cruiser, should I do what you do and wait for a week before I put my videos on YouTube? Or avoid the dangerous currents of YouTube stealing my domain authority and ignore YouTube all together?

HTML5 Video - Rich Snippet Markup and Quality
Hi guys, We're trying to get Rich Snippets for videos on our pages. I feel comfortable-ish with getting this set up, but I have a few questions. I was wondering whether anyone had any experience with this? Is there any additional markup to the <video>tag to get rich snippets</video> How do you handle multiple qualities - i.e. HD? Does the ogg and mp4 file need to be included? Any help/links to articles would be really helpful. Thanks!

Does anyone have experience with ecinity.com as a vehicle for populating local search directories? If yes, how would you rank it as a competitor to Localeze and UBL?
I've been approached by the company to use their tool. It has functionality beyond just populating local data sources which I'm not concerned with. I just want to know how it ranks in terms of local directory coverage. They claim 85% of the local directories will be populated.

Is there an easy way to see how competitive a local search term is?
Is there a quick and easy way to see how competitive local search terms are? I am looking at helping my clients show up on the local search results. Some times all I have to do is claim a listing and they move right to the top. Sometimes I claim a listing and nothing happens so I get links and I get reviews and it takes awhile. I want to be able to put an accurate price point on the service I am offering. I have looked at the search volume and it hasn't been the best indicator because some industries are more competitve than others. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
