How to track conversions from a third party email campaign?
-
Heyy..
New to the Moz community, first question so here goes!
I'm going to be running an email campaign with an e-magazine and I want to know how to track conversions from the email they're sending out so I can monitor success/failure.
I've found Google's URL builder:
https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1033867?hl=en
But this doesn't really explain what i'm trying to do.Can anyone of you in this fine community shed some light on this please?

No problem, glad I could help!
There are a few ways to view that info in GA, here is one method:
Go to your Acquisition > Campaigns > All Campaigns report
Then, make sure the correct 'conversions' goal is selected (should be a dropdown in the Conversions section)
Now, input the campaign name you created for the tracking URL into the filter input field. That field is right above the Conversions section of the report and has a small magnifying glass next to the input field (to the left of the 'advanced' link). That will allow you to only view the traffic coming from that campaign and its metrics.
You can also simply click the campaign name if you see it among the list of campaigns.

Thanks so much man, that really clears things up!
Just one more quick question. My goal which tracks my conversions is 'goal 5 payment made'
How would I segment the numbers to view which ones came from the email? -
Well, the Google URL builder is most likely what you are trying to do. If you set the correct parameters, you will be able to track the traffic that has come from that campaign. Then, you can see the goals that the traffic originating from those emails have completed, their behavior, and the outcomes.
A proper URL may look something like this...
- Update your domain to match your website
- the source should be the domain of the emagazine
- medium is email or newsletter
- content should be the name of the newsletter that your advertising in
- campaign should be a unique campaign name for your advertising strategy
I hope this helps! Once setup, you can track those conversions and goals that came from the traffic of the emagazine

Tracking homepage visits
Hi Mozzers, I run a website that has some buttons on the homepage. These URL's are not unique as they are accessible from the nav bar at the top of the page. I want to see the conversion rate of the homepage buttons. Is this possible? I currently use Crazy Egg to see how many people are clicking on the buttons but I want more information as I'm sure whether they are converting. Thanks, Karl

Google Product Ads - Improving our Cost Per Conversion?
Hi all, We have been running Google Product Ads (paid for) ever since it began in the UK. We are still struggling to get to grips with the best way to make it worthwhile for us. Our data for the last 14 days:
Conversion Rate Optimization | | complete_outdoors
Clicks: 1827
Impressions: 65789
CTR: 2.78%
Average CPC: £0.22
Cost Per Conversion: £15.13 We've added some auto targets for our most popular brands, with a higher CPC than "all products". We've also added negative keywords so we only come up with relevant searches. Basically, what we'd like to know is: how we can best set-up our product ads to reduce our Cost Per Conversion (I guess everyone would like to do that!), as it is barely worth us using it currently. If you require any further data to help answer my question, please ask. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.0 -

How to improve my conversions
Hey all, As always thanks in advance to any help given. So I think we haven't done a bad job, but I know there is always more that can be done with conversions. We have a website which provides guestlist to clubs in London, we are competitive on our keywords and ppc and get the clicks through with very very relevant adverts and meta descriptions.... The questions is 'How do I improve our conversion rate on page?' The said pages are setup like the examples below: www.capitalalist.com/movida-guestlist/ www.capitalalist.com/chinawhite-guestlist/ www.capitalalist.com/mahiki-guestlist/ The conversion comes when the click 'join guestlist' and fill out the form. Any help with be GREATLY appreciated!

Conversion optimization with Optimizely, impact on SEO
I am looking into signing up with www.optimizely.com for conversion testing. They put scripting on my site which will then redirect half of my site visitors to an alternate home page. The site I want to test on is ranking quite well with Google and I do not want to hurt my rankings. And with this set up,what Google will think is my home page is not and so I am essentially sending visitors to a different page than Google reads as my home page in source code. So, my concern is whether this will have a negative impact on my SEO rankings to redirect 50% of site visitors to a different page using this testing tool? I would use Google Web Site Optimizer, but many of my sites are in Wordpress and it seems that Wordpress and web site optimizer are not so compatible. Advice would be appreciated. Thank you, Robert
