How long does Google Analytics credit a source?
-
I was under the impression that GA credits the source with a conversion if it is the source for the current session but it seems that if the user returns later that the source may still be credited. Is this the case? How long does GA credit a source?

Hi Tyler - No problem, the community has helped me out quite a bit and I enjoy sharing what limited knowledge I have.
- Is there a simple way to have Analytics only return data provided in default groups (Organic, Email, Direct, etc.) rather than using regex filters?
Are you referring to the 'Channels' report? Under Acuisition > All Traffic > Channels GA displays metrics grouped by high level channels - this would be Organic, Email, Direct like you've mentioned. You'll want to make sure that your traffic is properly tagged so that the channels are reporting properly. E.g. your email traffic may need to be tagged as such to show up under that channel.
Also, You can create custom channel groupings if you want to group similar sources together and view them in the channels report. That would be in GA Admin > Account > Property > View (view level of a property) and then 'Channel Settings' > 'Channel Grouping'
2. Is it possible to change the attribution model outside of conversion tab for private dashboards, etc..?
Unfortunately, I do not think you can change the attribution model outside of the default attribution reports. I could be wrong and some further Googling may prove that, but I haven't created custom reports with different attribution models.

Ray,
Thanks for the continued support. There are a few that I am using to measure organic search where the numbers are off by 1-2% but I think I can give you a more simple example and still enable you to help me out. One email report simply uses the regex (email|bronto) for filtering source/medium. The conversion numbers for this filter come out similiarly - 1-2% more than what Google shows for email conversions within the LND attribution model tool.

Correct, the LND attribution model is the default attribution model that Google Analytics uses in their reports. So, if you're viewing a report that is not the Model Comparison report, you are seeing data based off the LND model.
I would have to look at your reports specifically to see why there is a difference. Are you making sure that both reports are not using 'sampled data' ? Sampled data would cause discrepancies.
-
Are you saying that LND is the default way of measuring conversions in GA? When looking at a report that displays conversions over a time frame those numbers are just slightly different that what LND shows for that same conversion over the same time frame.
-
The normal conversion attribution for Google Analytics is the Last Non Direct click - LND. This means, the last source clicked on by the user will receive the credit.
A person could come through organic search, leave the site, then come back directly and convert - that conversion would be credited to the organic source.
You can view different attribution models through the Conversions > Attribution > Model Comparison report. But, LND click is the standard attribution model.

Paid traffic or "Paid Search" is not showing in my Google Analytics
Hi, I have two campaigns running in Google Adwords or Google Ads now and I saw in Google Ads account that I had 5 clicks today (09/18/2018) but when I try to search for this clicks in my Google Analytics in ACQUISITION > All Traffic > Channels I don't find nothing about "Paid Search" or something like that. Bellow is a picture of my Google Analytics account to prove it. The accounts are linked and I can find the 2 campaigns in the Analytics. How can I interpret this picture? Where the paid traffic is showing? or not showing there? Thanks Leandro uvAtrsg

Google Analytics Campaign Tracking overriding each other
Howdy, fellow mozzers. So, here is the situation: Let's say someone comes to the website through Organic Google Search, and first thing they see is the banner on the website, on a click of which it takes you to a promotional landing page. I have this banner being tracked with GA campaigns. Now, here are my questions: If that user makes a purchase, which source / medium it will be assigned to? Organic/google or website/banner? (as far as i understand it assigns it to website/banner) If that's the case, is there way to find out afterwords where the website/banner sessions came initially from? If there is no such way, how shall i setup the tracking to be able to see wherre the initial visit to the website came from, yet also track how many people clicked on the banner and made a purchase? Thanks 🙂

Uptick in not tracked conversions / anyone have a list of things that google analytics will not track
There seems to have been an uptick in users on our site not being tracked in Google Analytics cause I see a lot more un-tracked revenue in the last 6 months then I used to. I know analytics is still working as it has been tracking a normal amount of visits but I assumed there might be a reason less would be actually showing up in analytics (mabye a change is what is being reported as organic). I know a lot of stuff goes into "not provided" such as logged in search and stuff like that but is there a list of all of the ones that go into not provided and all that just do not get tracked (javascript not enabled, iOS?). If it could be something else as well let me know. Thanks for the help!

Google Analytics and DNS change
Our new alumni application is going be tested at domain uva.imodules.com . We are going to collect traffic data with a Google analytics account number UA-884652-XX. So going to uva.imodules.com/myPage.html would send its data to Google Analytics with that account number. Then when it is ready for production we are going to just change the domain name of the application and switch the DNS over to dardencommunity.darden.virginia.edu . So going to dardencommunity.darden.virginia.edu /myPage.html would send its data to Google Analtics with that SAME account number. Aside from having the testing domain data in the same profile are there any other issues/problems we may run into?

Google Analytics Title tag vs landing page visitors numbers
Hi folks, Just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why im getting different results in Google analytics. I'm using the Content Efficiency Analysis Report from http://www.kaushik.net which is absolutely awesome. When I search via my title tag I get 920 Unique Visitors over the month but when I search via the landing page URL with the same title tag I get 28. Any ideas to why their should be such a difference. I've also noticed that on that page i'm also getting a Rel Cononical TRUE using a site crawl. Any ideas are much appreciated

Google Analytics Report throws up Google as a referrer
Good morning from Wet & Windy 12 degrees C wetherby UK... Using Google analytics I've noticed in the traffic sources refferer subsection some traffic is categorized as originating from Google. Whats puzzling me is.... I know a huge amount of traddic stems from Google but as the below screenshot illustrates only 21 visitors come from Google: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/google-refferal-sources-top-levelcopy.jpg And when i drill down some are coming from Google mobile 😞 http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/google-referral-sourcescopy.jpg Is traffic categorised as Google referrer down to Google hiding searches via ssl as explained here: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/google-referral-sourcescopy.jpg Any insights welcome 🙂

How Can I Record .zip Traffic in Google Analytics
The company I am with shows traffic coming in to .zip files in Google Analytics. The traffic being recorded stopped a while back, but I know people are still downloading/visiting these .zip ULRs. I'm not sure how they were recording/tracking the .zip URLs (in Analytics) before, but I'd like to track them once again. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks
