Changing UX for different types of visitors
-
If we want to change the UX for different types of visitors (ex: direct, google PPC, google organic, bing organic, etc.) what is the best way to do it? With Universal Analytics, where can we find the source and medium?
-
On the fly within the context of your site, your dev will have to parse this from your referrer string.
Source and Medium are terms Google uses in Analytics to help better categorize data. See here: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1033173?hl=en

Specifically, how do we determine the medium and source of a visitor?

If we want to change the UX for different types of visitors (ex: direct, google PPC, google organic, bing organic, etc.) what is the best way to do it?
There's a LOT of different ways to accomplish that depending on your situation. For example, with google PPC you could just designate the landing page in the Adwords campaigns with the UX you want to run on PPC visits. With others you could set up split testing to not only provide different UX experiences, but to measure their effectiveness as well.
With Universal Analytics, where can we find the source and medium?
There are several ways to view source and medium within Analytics. You can either apply it as a secondary metric in several reports or work with the main report located in Acquisition >> All Traffic >> Source / Medium.
Hopefully this gives you some ideas as starting points. Best of luck!

Same spam traffic coming from two different sources
This week we did two big email sends from completely separate sources and separate lists. However, in GA I see spam traffic coming from the same city and the same service provider when I look at the report for each source. Screenshots attached. I'm hoping someone can help me understand what I'm looking at and what I should do in the future to prevent. Thanks! g9NTZ5z X5WhYnf

Webmaster Tools equivalent to Change Default Address found in Analytics
Hello all! We're changing from http to https. In Google Analytics there is an option to change the default address so we keep our historical data. I can't find a similar option in Webmaster Tools though. Do you have to setup a new property or is there an option to change your current one? Thanks in advance!

Is It Possible to have Cross Domain Tracking on Two Different Accounts?
Good afternoon to all, I have this kind of dilemma regarding setting up tracking code on two different accounts, namely bioglass.com with GA Code UA-12345678-1 where all the product information has been listed and shopbioglass.com with GA Code UA-87654321-1 where the prices are located and transaction takes place. Both of them are connected since if you click the buy button on bioglass.com for a specific product, it will automatically redirect to shopbioglass.com where the prices and transactions comes into place. Dilemma: I want to check how many conversion took place from bioglass.com to shopbioglass.com. I know they have different GA Code but is it possible for me to have a cross domain tracking for this?? What are the possible remedies if not? Thanks to all 🙂

Difference between site: search and Total Indexed in Google Webmaster Tools.
This morning I did a search on Google for my site using the site: operator. I noticed that the number of results returned was significantly different than the "Total indexed" in Google Webmaster Tools. What is the difference and is it normal to have two very different numbers here?

URL-structure change - former long-tail traffic gone
Hey people, I'm sure many of you applied changes to the URL structure of a client's or your own website before. So did I for obvious reason: The structure before was like www.domain.com/brand_page/_22-key-word-translatedkeyword.php (ranked 20). This was changed to www.domain.com/key-word.html.

Edit: Also on-page it was optimized, but only taking out worthless links like "keyword-link to other page" and adding a relevant SEO text (also valuable for the user) Now, for the targeted short-tail keyword, the outcome was great - ranking increased by 17 landing the page on the first SERP. But: Before this page garnered a wide range of long-tail keyword traffic. To be exact: 2600 different keywords generated traffic for that page in a period of 1 month. Now the newly structured site (also on-page optimized) only receives traffic from around 100 keywords. You can imagine that the absolute amount of visits also dropped. So I'd like to know if you observed similar results. Another question that's coming up in this context: How regularly does Google refresh the keywords associated with a page? Like: Is this page really relevant for this one keyword we associated it with 5 years ago? Because it is clear, when I'm looking at the aforementioned 2600 KW in detail, most don't have anything to do with the site, i.e. are not mentioned at all. Still they generated valuable traffic though. All of this is really crucial to this project, because soon the whole website's supposed to be relaunched with optimized URL structure and of course everything else that's need SEO wise... I'd love to hear your experiences. Thanks!!0 -
Yahoo Site explorer: Different results for www & non-www domain. Can we merge these?
When checking our domain on yahoo site explorer, different results are shown for www.theprintspace.de and theprintspace.de. We have done a 301 redirect, as we want to optimise our www.theprintspace.de domain. However, we have a lot more backlinks for theprintspace.de. Is there any way of merging the two, so we don't loose all the linkjuice we get for theprintspace.de and use those links to optimise www.theprintspace.de? Thanks for your help!
