How to add meta descriptions in WordPress
-
Hello,
I have a WordPress website in which the front page is built entirely with text widgets. How would I add key words and meta descriptions. Yoast does not give an option for this and it seems WordPress does not support meta descriptions. Anyone have ideas?
The website is championfitprogram.com

I will give this php a try and see if it fixes my issues.

I am using Yoast too however on a page that is not set as a static front page Yoast wants you to use the Tag Line for site description and title. I guess I need to convert the front page to a static page instead of widgets. the Udesign theme wants to display the tagline on the front page so I will have to modify the php files, I was trying to stay away from that.

Ryan has answered it. With WP i use the Yoast plugin and it gets the job done well.

There are several ways to do this depending on the theme you have installed, wordpress back end, yoast widget, and more. Here's a discussion that covers editing the home page specifically: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-change-the-meta-description-of-my-site, while here's a Yoast specific discussion: https://yoast.com/meta-descriptions/, and post about the title and meta description editor: https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/#title-description.
Wordpress definitely supports meta descriptions so it's just a matter of finding where to edit them within your code.

Title Tags & Meta descriptions do not update
Hi, I have a question about the title tags and meta descriptions of my domain b-buildingbusiness.com. I've updated them about 5 days ago but the new versions don't show in the search engines. However it does show when you check with the facebook developers tool https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/sharing/?q=http%3A%2F%2Fb-buildingbusiness.com%2F . Does anyone have an idea why they're not updated in the search engines and how I can resolve this? Best, Rik

Can I just replay a backup within wordpress to regain my google ranking from yesterday?
Hi, yesterday I had a wonderful ranking for the website I do SEO for. The site is pretty still new (online since about one week). Around 11 am yesterday we ranked pretty good and challenged some local sites within the insurance business. Then I made a mistake and stuffed a part of a mail (full of keywords and comments) that was sent to me into an alt-tag of an image. Unfortunatelly it took me around 2 or 3 hours to notice. Before fixing the issue I made some other SEO changes and the site dropped on different keywords on google. Now it practically disappeared from the results… 😞 Does it make sense to just play back a backup from around 11 am yesterday or will google penalize so much going back and forth… (Meanwhile title-tag has been changed, an some alt-attributes, one of three H1s on the page to make it fit more to the title) Best regards Marc

Meta Title Pipes and Spacing
I've been doing optimization on a clients website and want to make sure I'm maximizing my characters. Does anyone have any feedback on the spacing in between the pipes ( | ) ? IE: Internet Marketing Company | Denver SEO | Brand Name Do the spaces before and after the pipes play a role in whether the search engines can distinguish the keyword or is it all considered one word if there is no spaces such as: IE: Internet Marketing Company|Denver SEO|Brand Name Any information will be super helpful. Thanks for your help!

Why is SEOMoz telling me that meta descriptions are missing?
We have descriptions using an Ektron CMS on a .NET platform. IT is wondering if using "meta ID" vs "meta name" is the issue? Here is an example of the HTML code: <meta http-equiv="<a class="attribute-value">Content-Language</a>" name="<a class="attribute-value">Language</a>" content="<a class="attribute-value">en</a>" /> <meta id="<a class="attribute-value">ctl00_metaTagControl1_metaKeywords</a>" name="<a class="attribute-value">Keywords</a>" content="<a class="attribute-value">hunting, fishing, outdoor, sportshooting, rodeo, off-road, hunt, fish, outdoors, community, shotgun, rifle, bass, trout, sportfishing, tarpon, ATV, television</a>">meta> <meta id="<a class="attribute-value">ctl00_metaTagControl1_metaDesc</a>" name="<a class="attribute-value">Description</a>" content="<a class="attribute-value">Deep-cranking technique lands Starks his second Elite Series victory.</a>">meta> <meta id="<a class="attribute-value">ctl00_metaTagControl1_metaSubject</a>" content="" name="<a class="attribute-value">subject</a>">meta> <meta id="<a class="attribute-value">ctl00_metaTagControl1_metaRating</a>" content="" name="<a class="attribute-value">rating</a>">meta>

Should we create separate product descriptions for our customers' web sites?
Still got my SEO learner plates on, but I'm trying to help a small e-commerce site which makes and sells baby products . They have upwards of 150 independent retailers also selling their products. Mindful of the fact that many of these retailers are copying the same product descriptions to use on their own web sites, I wondered if there was any value in creating separate sets of product descriptions, one for our web site and one for all their trade customers, in order to minimise the amount of duplicated content devaluing our site. In theory Google ought to know that ours is the original source of the content, but some testing has shown customers ranking higher for the same product descriptions. We have a separate area on the site for trade, which contains lots of media information they can use, and we could include a set of product descriptions in this area for trade customers to download, keeping a unique set of product descriptions for ourselves. We won't stop duplicate content entirely, I realise - but do you think it's worth the effort of trying to implement? Our web developer thinks it's a total waste of time and not worth bothering with for the miniscule benefit he thinks we'll gain. Grateful for any pointers.
