Enhancing SEO Between WordPress Blog and Company Website
-
My company has recently launched a new and improved website within the last couple months. Unfortunately, the web developers that we'd hired to build and create the site work very little with SEO, thus leaving me in the dark on where to direct any questions regarding the optimization of our web content.
Along with the new website design, we've also rolled out a WordPress blog related to our firm. We do have the blog embedded onto a page of our website, and clicking on any title will redirect the viewer to our WordPress blog, hosted separately from our website. My question is this--how do you suggest I drive viewers from our blog to our website, rather than vice versa? Are there any applications, widgets, etc that you could recommend that would help me better associate the blog with our company?
Any advice would help. Thanks!

Joey,
Thanks for your response. To answer your questions, the blog has a totally different URL. However, as I mentioned, a snippet of each entry is embedded into a page on our website, followed by a "read more" link that directs the viewer to our separate blog.
As far as integration, I agree that it seems like the best choice here. However, I'm fairly new to this and don't have full control of the final changes made to the website, blog, etc. To my knowledge, our decision to host separately in the first place was because we wanted the ability to individually share/publish posts via LinkedIn.
Again, thanks for your feedback. It is much appreciated!

The easy answer here is integrate the blog into the website because it's the best case scenario, but I get it - you are trying to work with what you have. I am wondering though how much you can move towards best case scenario. That raises some questions:
1. You say "clicking on any title will redirect the viewer to our WordPress blog, hosted separately from our website". How separately? Is it on the same domain, or does it have a totally different URL? This matters a lot.
2. What's your capacity or willingness to make changes here? If it's on a different URL, can you move under the same URL and at least integrate it into your menu etc?
Ultimately, a good goal would be integration. I'll jump of my soapbox now and answer your real question!
Ideas for driving views from blog to website:
1. Theme the blog to look like your website. Branding is very important. I'd also consider replicating the website menu on the blog to drive folks back to the main site.
2. Blog with the intent to open the door, and then get them to your website for the additional info, resources, downloads, etc. Think of it like a good email newsletter that pulls you in but ultimately drives you to the website.
3. Every post should end with a call to action that drives them to the site
4. I'd have a consistent sidebar that has a broader call to action, again, driving them to the siteIt's not optimal, but that's where I would start until you can make the bigger fix.

This is something we went through several years back. Our blog was on Wordpress and hosted separately from our main site. After years of trying to figure this out, we ultimately just moved the blog under our primary domain, moved all the content over and 301'd the URLs..
While this is a pain, we found that it created a much more pleasant user experience. We're an ecommerce company, so ultimately we wanted it to be as easy as possible for customers to bounce between our content and our products/cart. This has also resulted in longer and deeper sessions as well as more overall traffic to both our blog and our ecommerce site.
Hope this helps!

Should our rebranded company update our existing Instagram profile or delete it and start from scratch?
Our company just did a complete rebrand with a new name and logo. Instagram allows us to change our name, username, logo, and information, unlike Facebook, but there isn't a lot of online content about whether or not that's the best route. Any thoughts?

Standardising of Company Name Across The Web Question
Good Morning All There are two variations of our company name on the website. Sometimes the name is listed as "name and name" and sometimes listed as "name & name" The domain is obviously www.nameandname.co.uk I believe I am correct in saying that we would be wise to go through and standardise, using one form or the other? Secondly, my main question is would we be wise to use "name and name" as the default, as the word "and" and not the symbol "&" is in the domain itself? Many Thanks

My 40 year old, well established business has a brand name that I think is hurting my SEO. Need advice please.
Our business brand name has words in it which when we were using it as our domain name, was a) bad for our SEO and b) got our emails marked as spam in our client's inboxes. This was not a problem when we first got online, years ago. It eventually became problematic, but we didn't realize it for some time. When we realized the issue, we simply changed our domain name to something more SEO friendly, using exact match keywords. This was fine for a while, but eventually, algorithms changed again, and now with Google putting an emphasis on Brand Names and not looking as kindly on exact match keyword type domains, we are again at a place where we don't know what to do. We can't change our brand name. I don't want to post our real name or business here, but I will give an example. Brand Name: Living Free Travel The Issue: "Free Travel" gets blocked by spam filters, gets us useless traffic from people looking for free travel (which makes out bounce rates very high), gets our domain blacklisted. The Solution: travel2europe.com is the website of Living Free Travel The New Issue: travel2europe.com is not our brand, and probably doesn't look like one to Google, especially since on our site, travel2europe.com is never really mentioned because it is only our domain, not our brand. "Living Free Travel" is generally the anchor text for travel2europe.com wherever we are linked to. We assume this mismatch is problematic for us in ways we don't even know. Are we screwed? Need advice, please. THANK YOU.

Branding Association for SEO, and Google's understanding of a "brand Name"
Hey guys. so I currently run my own business here in Queens NY, for Web Design and online marketing, specifically SEO, SMM, SEM, and some inbound marketing that ties to SMM and SEO. When starting I was in a different business, and had kept my old business name. I plan on re-branding myself January 1st with a brand new name, the name i'm seriously considering is "Media Marketing USA". I was able to purchase MediaMarketingUSA.com. I feel this name is good and bad at the same time, and here are some of the reasons. The pro: Easy to remember, sounds big, and describes my business well. The con: Sounds generic, and I worry it will be hard to brand. I used the mentioning tool provided by Moz and see that nearly everyday 500-1,000 people are naturally mentioning Media Marketing USA, one of my biggest questions is will this give me a competitive advantage in SEO, or will it hurt me in SEO as Google may not see this or understand its a brand name? Do you personally think this is a good name to re-brand myself and use as my main website? The Website itself will be used as a corporate website, a method of inbound and outbound marketing through content creation, Social Media, and of course SEO, targeting specific locations, and specialty services and industries in the NYC area. Please share your thoughts with me, THANKS!!!

Re-code website and start from scratch?
Hi Community, one of my sites was affected by panda penguin and then EMD updates last year. All our google 1st page rankings were lost and we have spent the last few months trying to recover the situation. Changed content, meta tags, meta titles, disavowed links, changed navigation structure among other things. We are now at a point where we are thinking of scrapping the whole thing and re-coding the site. Before we make the decision I wanted to ask what the main risks and points are that we need to consider. Are there any useful guides to help us make an informed judgment? Also, if we were to re-do the site and also change the domain name what are the implications of this and what needs to be considered. I'd really appreciate some advice as this is a major step for us. Thanks
