Backlink profile maintenance?
-
hello all,
I have a large website that generates a few thousand organic links a day per majestic, and has over 2k referring domains.
a few months back I did a disavow, but I'm wondering your thoughts on how often I should be looking to get bad links removed and add new links to my disavow list. Also, what is really considered a bad organic link?
Are there any companies out there that offer monthly backlink maintenance or something?
-
Thanks guys. Can anyone recommend an SEO company who has a good reputation for managing this type of monthly maintenance service?
-
I do link hygiene once a month. I usually have to update my disavow file when I do that. Our site is old and keeping up with all of the links is not an easy task. Link hygiene, in my opinion, needs to be done monthly. If you are or aren't building links you can pick them up around the internet not even trying. That is why I monitor my profile so closely. Usually the links that just appear out of nowhere are links that I don't want or are bad for my site.
There is a software, but for your site it would be about $650 a month. It is really helpful. It updates the disavow file and forces a crawl immediately. To me, it is worth the money. You will have to have the time to manage it, which takes a few hours monthly.

Probably not the answer you want to hear but Cuttsy has said you should nofollow widget links:
http://searchengineland.com/googles-matt-cutts-i-recommend-nofollowing-links-on-widgets-169487
That being said, if there are only a few spam links coming in I wouldn't worry too much. If it's a lot, I'd consider how the widget is being used and why it's coming with spam.
But yes, any reasonable SEO agency should be able to help you with routine link maintenance.

What if the majority of our inbound links are coming from external websites utilizing our free widgets on multiple pages of their website, in some cases all pages of their websites (that link back to our site without any anchor text)?
-
I think the main question in this is "if you're not building a link, is it bad?"
Rarely should you be punished for someone else building links to your site. That's not to say it doesn't happen or even negative SEO doesn't exist. But if you're getting natural, organic links I would be very hesitant to disavow them unless they're very obviously spammy.
So I suppose I'd take a look at the profile every couple weeks to a month and see if the links coming in are really that bad and go from there. You can always get someone to clean it up on an ongoing basis (any decent SEO company should be able to price you a service for this depending on your needs.)

Questions about backlinks in wikipedia
Hi I read some articles about Wikipedia links but most of them were talking about how to get links from Wikipedia and no one says about its benefits! We all know that Wikipedia backlinks are nofollow and in most of the articles in Wikipedia, users don't click on the link! So it doesn't pass visitors so nofollow links don't pass the authority. But because this website has trustworthy links, might effect on serp. In your experience does Wikipedia links effect on serp? What grade you will give to this kind of links between one and 100? Between edu, gov, wiki and such this important links which one is more important? I will be glad if you share your experience.

What happens when we change redirects to pass linkjuice to different pages from backlinks? Google's stand?
Hi Moz community, We have employed different pages (topics) at same URLs for years. This has brought different backlinks to same page which has led to non relevancy of backlinks. Now we are planning to redirect some URLs which may improve or drop rankings of certain pages. If we roll back the redirects in case of ranking drop, will there be any negative impact from Google? Does Google notice anything about redirect changes beside just passing pagerank from backlinks? Thanks

Backlinks to internal pages help website to rank better or vice versa?
Hi Moz community, We have our backlinks mostly pointed to our homepage. We are trying to rank better and not having minimum number of backlinks to our internal pages is one of the things I worry about. Backlinks to homepage alone help in ranking internal pages or backlinks to internal pages help in ranking homepage? Or both required? Thanks

Do we need to Disallow profiles from discussions or forums?
Hi, We have a forum where users create different threads like any other community...ex..Moz. Thousands of pages are getting created. New threads and comments are Okay as they have relevant content. We are planning to "Disallow" all profile pages as they do not help with content relevancy and may dilute the link juice with thousands of such profile pages. Is this right way to proceed? Thanks

Is this something that Google creates automatically or is it something the celebrity initiates/creates on their behalf. Does the celebrity have any options to choose from as to what displays on this sidebar? What is this called? I look forward to your response. qwYeiFZQRzT

Cleaning up anchor text profile
Hello, I've got 2 questions: I've narrowed down the most important anchor text to change in this spreadsheet (note the legend) We're not ranking like we used to for a few keywords including the main keyword "NLP" (1) Should we remove the links from the 3 directories and the one sitewide footer link or should we change to branded anchor text? The names of our company are NLPCA.COM NLP and Coaching Institute of California NLP and Coaching Institute (2) Thus, I think "NLP California" will not work as branded anchor text even though some people call us that. Correct?

Since authorship markup requires a domain email, how can a community website allow users to link their Google+ profile?
It seems that Google now requires authors to have a valid email on the domain. This is easy for the traditional web publication. But what about community websites like SEOmoz? How can a community website allow users to link their Google+ profile? Will community websites like SEOmoz be required to 1. Give all users a domain email 2. Ask users to validate the email address with Google? Seems overly complicated.

Manual query to search for backlinks?
Hello, I've been using open site explorer, dabbled with seo spy glass, and other back linking sites, but I was wondering if there was a manual way of searching for back links? Such as site.www.widgets.com +keyword -widgets.com to show me results of all the sites pointing to www.widgets.com, or pointing to the keywords linking to widgets.com. I do enjoy Open Site Explorer, but it takes a few months index the back links ive done.
