Htaccess mod rewrite from server address
-
Hi there,
I'm not massively experienced with creating mod rewrite rules and I'm worried I've got this wrong as its slightly different to what I'm used to.
The web dev and content creators were working on http://5.10.105.45/~isea/ to create content.
I want to redirect all URL's to www.iseasurfwear.co.uk. This is what I've written
//Rewrite to www
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^5.10.105.45/~isea/[nc]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.iseasurfwear.co.uk/$1 [r=301,nc]Can anyone tell me if this is correct?
-
Try
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^5.10.105.45/~isea/
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.NewDomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]Or
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} /~isea/$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.NewDomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]** (edit) Make sure your sever has Mod Rewrite Enabled*

Agreed, but for now I just want to cover the issue so we can move forward. Slight update to my code. This rewrites the homepage, but doesn't seem to be rewriting anything else. Any tips?
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on
rewritecond %{http_host} ^5.10.105.45/~isea/ [nc]
rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.mydomain.com/$1 [r=301,nc] -
If you're moving from a dev environment to live, it's not redirects that you need. You need to update the references in the code of the template and in the content areas that your developers didn't clean up when moving the site to live. Doing rewrites will only cover the issue, but the incorrect links will still be there.

Just tested. It doesn't work. Any help?

Does having a sub-domain on a different server affect SEO?
I'm working with a company that has a hard-coded website on the root domain, and then a WordPress blog on a subdomain on a separate server. We're planning on implementing a hub and spoke model for their content, hosting the main hubs on the root domain and the linked articles on the blog. Is having the blog on a different server going to hinder our SEO efforts?

301 redirect syntax for htaccess
I'm working on some htaccess redirects for a few stray pages and have come across a few different varieties of 301s that are confusing me a bit....Most sources suggest: Redirect 301 /pageA.html http://www.site.com/pageB.html or using some combination of: RewriteRule + RewriteCond + RegEx I've also found examples of: RedirectPermanent /pageA.html http://www.site.com/pageB.html I'm confused because our current htaccess file has quite a few (working) redirects that look like this: Redirect permanent /pageA.html http://www.site.com/pageB.html This syntax seems to work, but I'm yet to find another Redirect permanent in the wild, only examples of Redirect 301 or RedirectPermanent Is there any difference between these? Would I benefit at all from replacing Redirect permanent with Redirect 301?

Hi - I have a question about IP addresses
- would it hurt link juice to host a blog on a different server to the rest of your website? I have a web host saying they can't run Wordpress as they won't support PHP for "security reasons" - one solution would be to set up Wordpress on a different server and redirect domain.com/blog there (I presume this is do-able?). But I don't know if that affects the SEO adversely?

Businesses That Have 2 Trading Addresses
Hi, I have a quick question regarding Local SEO. We have a building company that operates from 2 addresses, about 70 miles apart. When we changed the address in the footer of our website to a different registered office the rankings for that local area bombed. What I would like to know is if there is a way I can properly mark up the site so that Google recognizes the same business works from 2 locations. Thanks

Htaccess code to 301 redirect a folder change
Hi, I need some help to redirect all my site as there was a folder change. eg, the old structure was www.mysite.com/stuff-1/bags.html and I need it to go to the same structure without the "-1" eg: /stuff/bags.html

The "bags.html" will be lots of different products, so this would be a wildcard? What would the htaccess code need to be? Thanks0 -
Please advice needed SSL .htaccess
Hi everyone, I recently installed verisign ssl. the idea to have page https://example.com all redirect from non-http to https work properly, but in IE whenever smbdy types https://www.example.com it shows the red screen with invalid certificate. If you click "proceed" - everything goes to normal page and on server redirect www to non-www seem to work fine. Is there way to get rid of the warning? Is it server or certificate issue? Here is the peice of code from htaccess. Please, advice needed! RewriteEngine On RewriteBase /RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on RewriteRule ^(.*) https://%{SERVER_NAME}/$1 [R,L] RewriteRule ^index.php$ - [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L] Thanks in advance

.htaccess when integrating one website into another
My client would like to integrate one of it's smaller websites into its main website. I've identified around 20 pages which I'd like to 301 redirect to specific pages on the main website, and this is simple enough. The problem I have is that I am not sure how I can then put a catch-all to redirect all other pages on the site to the homepage of the main website. I'd originally though something like this would work: redirect 301 / http://www.mainwebsite.com/ (catch-all)
Technical SEO | | AndrewAkesson
redirect 301 /about.asp http://www.mainwebsite.com/about (specific redirect 1)
redirect 301 /latest.asp http://www.mainwebsite.com/news (specific redirect 1)
etc. Any ideas?0
