How to get only the most needed css for faster loading?
-
I have been using the Firefox duster app to clean up my css so only the page rendering css is loaded when my page is loaded. But it doesn't seem to be working now. Does anyone know of another tool that will do this for me?
-
This seems like something that's a little beyond the scale of an app. SitePoint did a great breakdown of the whole ecosystem of page rending here: http://www.sitepoint.com/optimizing-critical-rendering-path/ that details the steps to go through regarding loading pages as quickly as possible. That said, a CDN like Cloudflare would be better suited to the task: https://www.cloudflare.com/features-optimizer. Cheers!

Canonical urls - do my web pages need them?
Hello, I'm going round in circles with this issue, so hopefully someone can help... The Moz crawl of my website lists a number of pages as "missing canonical url". The pages are all different and do not have similar content. Do I need to add a canonical url to each page? My agency quoted the following (x referencing this page: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/crawling/consolidate-duplicate-urls) list itemYou would use Canonical URLs if: list item"...you have a single page that's accessible by multiple URLs, or different pages with similar content (for example, a page with both a mobile and a desktop version), Google sees these as duplicate versions of the same page." list itemThis is not the case here and so we would not propose to change anything. We could add Canonical URLs if the client feels that it is critical which occurs an additional cost. Any help / advice much appreciated. Thanks

I physically changed my URL and now I have two...How do I get rid of the old one?
Hi, I physically changed my URL as something else and now Google thinks I have two duplicate pages (I know not to do this in the future). e.g. I had www.example.com/i-like-seo.aspx and changed it to: www.example.com/i-love-seo.aspx Google sees this as two pages now and my CMS system is only showing one page (The new page) Also, SEOMOZ is seeing two pages and further more sees them both as having two different amounts of inbound links? When I change content on the new url page, the old url page also updates. I'm really confused as to what has happened here and don't know how to get rid of the old url so that Google doesn't think that I have duplicate content. Any help to what has happened or how to fix it would be so helpful and appreciated. Many thanks.

Rankings have fallen suddenly - I need a plan of attack.
I started my business a few years ago. Only recently (6 month) I started to get some good traffic and sales. At first I was ranking pretty well 3-5 for my main keywords and business began to pick up. After Penguin I was hit hard and I'm placing 10-17'ish. My Google local/places has disappeared too. I haven't received any contact from Google about unnatural links (but I'm not sure where that would appear? Email? Web Master Tools? Horses head on my pillow?). I've read so many different things online about what I 'could' do. I'm not sure where to start. I've checked and I know we've created lots of questionable back links. Using the Open Site Explorer lots of the backlinks don't have terrible DA but some do. I guess I was hoping someone would give me a checklist or priority list of things to do. It's just me so I need to use my time as best I can. What should I be doing first? Should I be trying to: Remove my bad backlinks? Spend my time making quality backlinks. On-page issues that I can't see? Telling google i'm sorry via web master tools. Changing to new domain (eek) I'm very time poor and hoped the seoMoz community might save me from wasting my time. www.bringyourownlaptop.com.au Keywords: indesign training, web design courses & photoshop courses Thank you in advance. Where do you go to get a question answered by seomoz?
I thought it was here before but now the seomoz folks don't seem to be responding in this forum. Is there another place to go to get seomoz to answer a question?

I am looking for help in rewriting the URL's for the product pages. I want it to have xyz.com/product (which exists if you hard code it into the site) If you wind up on the product by clicking throught the categories the url looks like: xyz.com/category/subcategory/product. Does anyone know how to make it so when you land on a product page it is just xyz.com/product ? My Site is : http://goo.gl/JgK1e Thanks for the help...

Javascript late loaded content not read by Gogglebot
Hi, We have a page with some good "keyword" content (user supplied comment widget), but there was a design choice made previously to late load it via JavaScript. This was to improve performance and the overall functionality relies on JavaScript. Unfortunately since it is loaded via js, it isn't read by Googlebot so we get no SEO value. I've read Google doesn't weigh <noscript>content as much as regular content. is this true? Once option is just to load some of the content via <noscript> tags. I just want to make sure Google still reads this content.</p> <p>Another option is to load some of the content via simple html when loading the page. If JavaScript is enabled, we'd hide this "read only" version via css and display the more dynamic user friendly version. - Would changing display based on js enabled be deemed as cloaking? Since non-js users would see the same thing (and this provides a ways for them to see some of the functionality in the widget, it is an overall net gain for those users too).</p> <p>In the end, I want Google to read the content but trying to figure out the best way to do so.</p> <p>Thanks,</p> <p>Nic</p> <p> </p></noscript>

How do I get Google to display categories instead of the URL in results?
I've seen that for some domains Google will show a nice clickable site heirarchy in place of the actual URL of a search result. See attached for an example. How do I go about achieving this type of results? categorized.png
