Help with Temporary Redirects on Pages

Hi Guys,
My latest crawl shows this: "44% of site pages served 302 redirects during the last crawl" When I click this to investigate the issue I see:

https://www.....
https://www.....
https://www.....
https://www.....
https://www.....And under Redirect URL:
http://www....
http://www....
http://www....I've recently read an article from Yoast that this is a https:// to http:// redirect (ofcourse ).
but why is this an issue that needs to be solved and how do I solved it?Thanks again for your help and thoughts.

He says:
'If you’re a web shop or otherwise transactional website you probably already have SSL for your checkout.
If so, moving your entire website to https makes a LOT of sense to me, it’s probably actually easier to maintain and makes sure that you’re doing everything to make sure your SSL traffic (and thus the most important section of your site) is as fast as possible.'Moving to HTTPS is something different than 301 redirecting I suppose? Yoast says:
_'All of your internal links should start to use https, not just to pages, but for images, JavaScript, CSS, etc.
This means going through your theme with a fine comb and cleaning all of those up.
Of course you can have your web server redirect http to https (more on that below), but not having to do the redirect is a lot cheaper.'Thanks again! Joost_

Thanks for taking the time to write and help me out really appreciate it!
Ok so I understand that a 301 is the way to go but what is better http:// to https:// or https:// to http://
(now I'm doing the last one if I'm correct, or is this a stupid question and can it only be done one way around?).I'm working in Wordpress with Woocommerce. I've got the htaccess plugin to update the htaccess file easily.
I also have a HTTPS plugin but not sure if i need to be there to change anything.Thanks guys!

Fully agree with Chris here.
You should also be able to set this up in your htaccess as well, which will handle all http to https redirects (or vice versa) - more information here.
Like Chris said, this will all depend on your CMS and site setup. I would also suggest checking your internal links, update your XML sitemap, and upload that sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools and Bing Webmaster Tools to reflect this change.
I would also suggest using relative URLs in your internal links, that way if you change your domain or protocol, you don't have to individually update every internal link on your site. This is more for convenience for you and your team.

To understand the issue you need to understand what a 302 is vs. a 301
a 302 is a temporary redirect, it tells search engines that this redirect is temporary and so the value of that page is never really moved in the eyes of Google and alike
a 301 is a permanent redirect which tells search engines that you've move that page and its never going back, Search engines then also move all the other gooness (like link juice) with this.
You want a 302 because it allocated all more page value compared to a 302, you can read more here -

In short because you're running a 302 redirect you're splitting the value of your site between the http & htts, and should be running a 301
change the redirects to a 301 and you will be fine, as for the how it depends on your CMS but i'm sure a bit of Googling can give you a hand.

Duplicate page content
These two URLs are being flagged as 98% similar in the code. We're a large ecommerce site, and while it would be ideal to have unique product descriptions on each page we currently don't have the bandwith. Optimizing pages for keywords
I have a couple of websites for retailing the western chaps manufactured by my company. I have recently tried to increase my learning for SEO since one of my main sites (started in 2006) just lost about 45% of it's organic search volume since the end of May. It seems my search to learn just creates more and more questions. I have been using google adwords for several years now and have used that information to find the most searched keywords. There are some general keywords like western chaps and cowboy chaps that receive decent search volume. If I get more specific to a certain type of chap, chinks for example, the popular high volume keywords are chinks, chinks chaps, western chinks, and cowboy chinks. These all relate to one type of chap...the chink. I want to be visible for these keywords, but how does one optimize for more than one without diluting? Should I also try to optimize on the homepage of my sites for the general terms like western chaps and cowboy chaps? Can I optimize for both? I could really use some help. Any experts out there up to the job of consulting for me, some with extensive knowledge and experience? I'm not looking for the SEO giants with hundreds of clients. I don't feel that I will get the proper value from those types. My company is small and spending is an issue, that's why I would like someone to consult with. I should be able to do most of the labor, I just need the knowledge.

301 Redirect to product page or category?
We manage an ecommerce website that sells health products. A few products have now been discontinued. I’m just wondering what would be the best practice in this case. Should we 301 redirect to a similar product or to a similar category page? ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

A question on cached pages
Hi all. I have been testing different ways of writing the text on the homepage of the website www document-management-solutions co.uk because we are ranking very low for the keyword Document Management Software. I've recently learnt about pages being 'cached' and wanted to just clarify something. The last time the page was cached was on 26th March. I have made changed to the homepage since then and wanted to see how it has affected our ranking. Will I not be able to know if it has had a positive/negative effect until the next time our page is cached? Thanks

Several Links in Some Pages
Dear all, Our main site is a bussiness directory, and following some SEO advices, we are creating landing pages for each category, in order to optimize them for the keywords. Those landing pages have links to the listings related to them. Using the same idea, we have created pages related to the regions, and those pages include links to the listings located in them. The only problem that I see with that, is the number of links that some categories or regions could have. Is there a limit of recomended number of links per page, from a SEO perspective? We also have a main category page, that includes a list of all categories, and this page could also have a relatively high number of links. The pages have around 300 to 500 words, some include also images, some include videos. Many thanks for your help, Daniel

Locating Duplicate Pages
Hi, Our website consists of approximately 15,000 pages however according to our Google Webmaster Tools account Google has around 26,000 pages for us in their index. I have run through half a dozen sitemap generators and they all only discover the 15,000 pages that we know about. I have also thoroughly gone through the site to attempt to find any sections where we might be inadvertently generating duplicate pages without success. It has been over six months since we did any structural changes (at which point we did 301's to the new locations) and so I'd like to think that the majority of these old pages have been removed from the Google Index. Additionally, the number of pages in the index doesn't appear to be going down by any discernable factor week on week. I'm certain it's nothing to worry about however for my own peace of mind I'd like to just confirm that the additional 11,000 pages are just old results that will eventually disappear from the index and that we're not generating any duplicate content. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a way to download a list of the 26,000 pages that Google has indexed so that I can compare it against our sitemap. Obviously I know about site:domain.com however this only returned the first 1,000 results which all checkout fine. I was wondering if anybody knew of any methods or tools that we could use to attempt to identify these 11,000 extra pages in the Google index so we can confirm that they're just old pages which haven’t fallen out of the index yet and that they’re not going to be causing us a problem? Should I use a Page Name variable after the ? for a dynamic web page
I'm converting for static to dynamic web pages. It appears that the page name is used for page ranking in the search engines. Will adding a Page Name variable help to increase our SEO. For example aspecialgift.com/subcat.php?PageName=GiftPage&ProductID=ABCDE. Does the page name variable make a difference?
