Webmaster tools question
-
Hi all.
I have a question regarding http vs https. I have an https site and was wondering how to tell google in Webmaster tools to combine and use https. I have setup all sites in Webmaster tools. Both www and non www for both http and https. I see where to set up the www vs the non www but don't quite understand how to do the https part. I want all traffic to:
https://www-creative -technology-solutions.com
Thanks
-
That's pretty much it. Wordpress is pretty easy to setup with https.
As for the question of this thread. You already did it since you inserted all versions to GWT.Google will do the rest as long as you've properly set all to direct to https.
Youll see your webmaster stats for http drop like a fly to https and youll see an (almost) instant upwards with your line in your https impressions.

Anyone?

I have this entered in my Wordpress .htaccess:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^23.229.174.140
RewriteRule (.*) https://www.creative-technology-solutions.com/$1 [R=301,L]
#Force www:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^creative-technology-solutions.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.creative-technology-solutions.com/$1 [L,R=301,NC]
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off
RewriteRule (.*) https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R=301,L]
This in Wordpress settings:
WordPress Address (URL) https://www.creative-technology-solutions.com
Site Address (URL) https://www.creative-technology-solutions.com
Is there anything else I need to set and how?
-
Use the canonical URL and the 301 redirect. Should preserve most, if not all, of the pagerank.

I only want https://www.creative-technology-solutions.com to be used. I started with http and purchased a certificate awhile back and want google to only see the https. Is there a way to combine them so domain authority from http is applied to the https. I never used non www.

Hi there
If your site is https, your internal links reflect this protocol, your sitemap is https, and is uploaded properly to Google Webmaster Tools, Google will have no issue seeing that it's https.
Run a crawl of your site through ScreamingFrog to see if they catch any internal redirects or links with http or non www so those can be fixed.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

You should set these up separately in GWT. If you want to have these combined, you should use use mod_rewrite to direct http to https. Is there a reason you are using http and https?

301 Redirect - Technical Question
I have recently updated a site and for the url's that had changed or were not transferring I set up 301 redirects in the htaccess file as follows This one works - Redirect 301 /industry-sectors http://www.tornadowire.co.uk/fencing But this one doesn't - Redirect 301 /industry-sectors/equine http://www.tornadowire.co.uk/fencing/application/equestrian/ What it does is change the url to this instead http://www.tornadowire.co.uk/fencing/equine ..... which returns a 404 page not found error The server is nginx based server and we have moved from a joomal platform to a wordpress platform I would be grateful for any ideas

Strange Webmaster Tools Crawl Report
Up until recently I had robots.txt blocking the indexing of my pdf files which are all manuals for products we sell. I changed this last week to allow indexing of those files and now my webmaster tools crawl report is listing all my pdfs as not founds. What is really strange is that Webmaster Tools is listing an incorrect link structure: "domain.com/file.pdf" instead of "domain.com/manuals/file.pdf" Why is google indexing these particular pages incorrectly? My robots.txt has nothing else in it besides a disallow for an entirely different folder on my server and my htaccess is not redirecting anything in regards to my manuals folder either. Even in the case of outside links present in the crawl report supposedly linking to this 404 file when I visit these 3rd party pages they have the correct link structure. Hope someone can help because right now my not founds are up in the 500s and that can't be good 🙂 Thanks is advance!

How can I find my Webmaster Tools HTML file?
So, totally amateur hour here, but I can't for the life of me find our HTML verification file for webmaster tools. I see nowhere to look at it in Google Webmaster Tools console, I tried a site:, I googled it, all the info out there is about how to verify a site. Ours is verified, but I need the verification file code to sync up with the Google API and no one seems to have it. Any thoughts?

Recent Webmaster Tools Glitch Impacting Site Quality?
The ramifications of this would not be specific to myself but to anyone with this type of content on their pages... Maybe someone can chime in here, but I'm not sure how much if at all site errors (for example 404 errors) as reported by Google Webmaster Tools are seen as a factor in site quality, which would impact SEO rankings. Any insight on that alone would be appreciated. I've noticed some fairly new weird stuff going on in the WMT 404 error reports. It seems as though their engine is finding objects within the source code of the page that are NOT links but look a URL, then trying to crawl them and reporting them as broken. I've seen a couple different of cases in my environment that seem to trigger this issue. The easiest one to explain are Google Analytic virtual pageview Javascript calls where for example you might send a virtual pageview back to GA for clicks on outbound links. So in the source code of your page you would have something like: onclick="<a class="attribute-value">_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outboundclick/www.othersite.com']);</a> Although this is obviously not a crawl-able link, sure enough Webmaster Tools now would be reporting the following broken page with a 404: www.mysite.com/outboundclick/www.otherwite.com I've seen other such cases of thing that look like URLs but not actual links being pulled out of the page source and reported as broken links. Has anyone else noticed this? Do 404 instances (in this case false ones) reported by Webmaster Tools impact site quality rankings and SEO? Interesting issue here, I'm looking forward to hear some people's thoughts on this. Chris
