Curious Keyword Tags Question...
-
In 2012, we got hit with something... I have always assumed Panda...
We have hundreds of thousands of products on our site. Prior to the traffic drop, our old site design listed a small number of keywords tags on the product pages.
About 10 or so...
After the site re-design, we allowed all of the keyword tags to appear on these product pages and also linked them to
our search results pages.
I know that one thing this did is cause a lot of these Search Results pages to be indexed.
But our traffic has been constantly declining since then... I wonder what would happen if I just went back to the old with a smaller number of keywords listed and not linked?
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Craig

If this was my site, I would stop linking to tag pages and search results pages. I would also block them from being indexed.
It is very possible that the search results pages are causing issues. Google said back in 2007...
"Typically, web search results don’t add value to users, and since our
core goal is to provide the best search results possible, we generally
exclude search results from our web search index. "Matt Cutts comments about it here and on a similar subject here.

Does Google read dynamic canonical tags?
Does Google recognize rel=canonical tag if loaded dynamically via javascript? Here's what we're using to load: <script> //Inject canonical link into page head if (window.location.href.indexOf("/subdirname1") != -1) { canonicalLink = window.location.href.replace("/kapiolani", ""); } if (window.location.href.indexOf("/subdirname2") != -1) { canonicalLink = window.location.href.replace("/straub", ""); } if (window.location.href.indexOf("/subdirname3") != -1) { canonicalLink = window.location.href.replace("/pali-momi", ""); } if (window.location.href.indexOf("/subdirname4") != -1) { canonicalLink = window.location.href.replace("/wilcox", ""); } if (canonicalLink != window.location.href) { var link = document.createElement('link'); link.rel = 'canonical'; link.href = canonicalLink; document.head.appendChild(link); } script>

Subdomain Ranking Question
Hi All - Quick question that I think I know the answer to, but I feel like I've been going around in circles a bit. My client is launching a new product and wants us to build a microsite for it (product.clientname.com). My client really dislikes their brand website, and wants to use paid media to push their audience to this new microsite. However, they also said want it to rank well organically. I feel uneasy about this, because of the subdomain vs. subfolder argument. I believe that the product will also be listed/featured on their main brand website. What is the best way forward? Thanks!

Fluctuation in Ranking for the keywords
We were ranking well for most of the keywords. These keywords were at first page i.e mostly @ 1st and 2nd position in Google. But we have put the following tag ie no index tag for our pages by mistake and after that the ranking fluctuated & fell down in Google search results as our pages were out of index in Google .We have removed the noindex tag after encountering the problem. Now I can see my pages are cached & indexed in Google after submitting to index in Google webmaster tool. Can I regain my ranking for the keywords and within how many days I would regain my previous ranking?

Keyword Canabalisation and my solution
Hi. According to one guy, in this thread: http://www.seomoz.org/q/good-seo-titles, the Meta Title, H1 Tag Title on the product page, and the category listing pages should be different to avoid keyword canabilisation. One problem I noticed in my website after reading about this topic, is that all my printers have the keyword sentence :"refurbished printer", yes 99% of the products are refurbished but in that way according to the answer in the above post I am competing against self, too many pages (1000) with the same keywords on it. So I decided to make some changes and I I would like to know the opinion of the experts here, I did this only for one product, then I would of course need to this for lots of products. 1. I created a different meta title. check here please http://www.theprinterdepo.com/hp-color-laserjet-cp2025n-printer-new 2. In the product page itself, I removed the condition from the name of the product, instead I put the template, NAME - MODEL -CONDITION. 3. In the category listing page I havent made any change yet, it still shows the product name only http://www.theprinterdepo.com/new-printers/color-laser-new-printers Check 1st row, 4th column. Is this a good approach?
