International SEO with 27 TLD`s
-
Hi Guys!
Would like to have your expert opinion on the structure of a big international company.
They are active over 27 regions, with all their own local TLD website.
Some of them are translated, but most of them are in English (big duplicated content, you know it).Next to that they have a webshop on 4 subdomains of theses 27 local TLD's.
In my opinion it would be best to merge them all back to the .com domain and set-up a 301 redirect for all local TLD`s.
However what is your opinion on these 4 webshops? should I make them in the following structure : .com/region/shop (for example .com/fr/shop)Thanks for the feedback!
Kind Regards
S.

Hi S.
Good issue you have here. I agree with your sentiment below, if you can't maintain separate ccTLDs, they might not be right for you. I am not saying don't do it, as a ccTLD is a strong signal still, but if it doesn't work for you, the structure you mentioned works just fine.
Just to make sure you have the right structure though, can you visit my tool here, answer the questions, and let me know what the result is? It's the best way I have found for determining international site structure.
Once you have that, we can discuss what the right structure is for you.

Hi there
You will still need to differentiate the content on the website based on the location and language you are trying to capture, regardless if it's on the same site or not. If you sort the site, even then you will still need to categorize content. For example:
www.example.com
www.example.com/uk/
www.example.com/fr/
www.example.com/es/
www.example.com/ru/
etc.or
es.example.com
fr.example.com
ru.example.com
etc. That being said, look into the information that I sent prior as this will help you structure your site and tell search engines where section targets what audience - UK english and US english are still two different languages in crawlers eyes as they are two different regions with two different audiences.
Good luck!

Hi Patrick,
Thank you for your input.
Local listings are not really important.
The main goal is to increase online visibility for all regions.
The market is not really competitive.
Hardest part will be to manage all regions centrally as they do not have the manpower nor budget to optimize each cctld.Next to that there will be no difference in the us website and the uk website so it will be hard to use canonical lang tags for that.
I was thinking of putting them all under the .com domain and sort them by language.kr

Hi there
Ideally, if you have different regions, you should have different areas of your site dedicated to that region. I would focus on the following items:
Use hreflang for language and regional URLs (Google)
International SEO (Moz)
International SEO Checklist (Moz)
How to Tell Bing Your Website's Country and Language (Bing)Do not merge and 301 redirect, that is a bad user experience, especially if you have local listing links.
Also, set up individual Webmaster Tools for each section and look to Country Target those sections.
Let me know if you have any questions or comments - good luck!

Menus, Ecommerce & SEO
Hi Our Dev team have updated our website with a new menu structure, they have given us 2 options to choose from. 1st option I think is better for SEO - this will be showing top 8 categories and then subcategories once you hover over category 1. Not much change from our current structure, just a slightly different layout. (I have added an image example of what option1 will look like) 2nd option - is preferred by management - shows all 24 categories & no subcategories. My question is, will removing the current subcategories from the main menu make them lose rankings & make them harder to rank in future? I'm guessing everything will move down a level in the structure and lost page authority... Does anyone have any articles/case studies to prove this point? Any help is much appreciated 🙂 Becky DKzgD

To obtain an SEO benefit from an SSL is there any particular type or brand which is recommended or has a track history? It seems you can pay anything between $20 and $???? (For that matter whatever you want to pay!). Any experience gratefully accepted! Thanks

Social Impacts on SEO? How to Do this?
I'm new in SEO and heard by one of my friend that social signals are important for SEO of a website. If people have shared a website's url on their twitter, then it will automatically get rank in google. Is that true and how google sees this social sharing? and how can I do this for my website?

Advanced SEO question.
Hi, I manage and do the SEO for this site: www.aerlawgroup.com. If you Google "Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney", you can see I rank well (1st page). I have managed to achieve similar rankings for interior pages within the site: www.aerlawgroup.com/domestic-violence.html (Google: "Los Angeles Domestic Violence Attorney".) Here is my question. No matter how hard I try, I cannot get to the first page on Google for the search term: "Los Angeles DUI Lawyer", for the following interior page: www.aerlawgroup.com/dui.html. Is there anyway that I can pass the authority/ranking (not sure what to call it) that I have for www.aerlawgroup.com to www.aerlawgroup.com/dui.html so that internal page ranks higher for "Los Angeles DUI Lawyer"? I apologize if my question doesn't make sense. In a nutshell, I'm trying to understand if there is anyway to use the ranking I have for www.aerlawgroup.com to help me rank higher for Los Angeles DUI lawyer for the dui interior page. If not, are there any other suggestions anyone has to achieve a higher ranking? Thanks!

Images and SEO
Hi, I would like some opinions on the topic of using images for SEO. I have come across a few sites that I see have very few backlinks, but have decent pagerank and seem to rank well for certain keywords. One such site I looked at had very little content other than tons of images (It was a joke blog that focussed on funny images, funny pics etc) and now I am starting to question whether hotlinking images assists in SEO? are there any benefits to having someone using one of your images (hosted on your site) ? I do recall reading somewhere that someone hotlinking an image is akin to a link. Any truth in this?

What's the best theme for seo if you are going to use yoast anyway
I am going to edit my theme myself so I don't need something like thesis for that. But people say that the thesis framework is amazing for seo, and it's hard to edit it manually. Does using the thesis theme do anything for you if you are going to use yoast anyway? Thanks William

What are the SEO implications of a CNAME?
(please ignore ridiculousness of hypothetical situation) Lets say Amazon had a food division which was at food.amazon.com. I partnered with Amazon's food division and now food.amazon.com will point to my website (food.com). Amazon adds a CNAME record so food.amazon.com resolves to food.com. If food.amazon.com has built up significant page rank / domain authority, will food.com be getting those benefits? Also, lets say food.amazon.com/rice has a lot of PR / authority -- will food.com benefit from the value of those internal pages?
