Does sitemap auto generation help in SEO 2015
-
Dear All,
May be this is a common question in forum, but wanted to ask specifically for 2015. Does automatic site generators will help in SEO. I added a new website and google started crawling it, without adding sitemap.xml, So does it really matter to have sitemap or updating the sitemap.
Thanks,
Om

Hi there
Yes, you should definitely create a sitemap and upload it to both Google and Bing Webmaster Tools. This will help crawlers understand your website structure, the importance of the pages, as well as how often those pages should be crawled.
I would also recommend building out sitemap extensions for other content:
- Images
- Video
- Mobile
- News
From there, you can collect all of your sitemaps so that crawlers know there are multiple sitemaps that need to be crawled for different content. Here are some more guidelines for you to go through and here is a resource from Google that lists sitemap generators that will not only generate, but maintain your sitemaps for you - I highly recommend this as it will lessen your workload but will make sure the work gets done and is up to date.
There are a lot of benefits and when done properly it can definitely help your organic visibility.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

Hi Om,
I recommend making your sitemap update daily (automatically). If you're using WordPress the SEO by Yoast plugin can do this for you. If you submit the URL to Google everything will go automatically. Manually changing is a real pain in the *** since every time a page disappears you should update your sitemap since this could cause you sending Google to 404 pages.

OK Got it. One more additional question, how frequently we should update the sitemap and submit to Google. One of our competitor changes their sitemap every day, does it help ?
Thanks,
Om

Hi ,
IMO yes every site should have xml sitemap because it is a helpful tool that can improve the crawling of your site particularly if your site meets one of the following criteria:
1>Your site is really large.
2>Your site has a large archive of content pages that are isolated or well not linked to each other.
3>Your site is new and has few external links to it.
4>Your site uses rich media content, is shown in Google News, or uses other sitemaps-compatible annotations.
In most cases, webmasters benefit from sitemap submission, and in no case can you be penalized for it.
Hope this helps
Thanks

Hi Omverma,
I totally agree with Hectormainar, sitemaps aren’t a must but I would definitely recommend them! Any website with a few levels (webshops for example) will have large amounts of deeper pages that are hard to get by through the internal link structure and a sitemap definitely helps with that.
Besides that, if you upload your sitemap in Google webmaster Tools you can get a quick view of how many pages Google has indexed. For me this is a quick indication of any indexation problems might going on.
I hope this helps!

It is not a must nowadays. As soon as you get some external links, bots will be able to start indexing them. But, sincerely, creating an automatic sitemap is an easy task, and for sure it speeds up the process of all the site appearing on the search engines, specially the deepest pages. Also, it is a way to index areas which are not accesible via links.
So, it is not the main goal in SEO, but is still recommended, specially for launching of new sites.

Its been more than a month now, but it still doesn't show up in the link explorer, how much time does link explorer take to update the linking domains? Moreover, are these references going to help my blog? Thanks a lot in advance 🙂

Help needed.
Hey experts I hope you are all doing great, please have a look at my blog https://iriveramerica.com, when I check it with link explorer there are 92% domains with spam score below 20 and only 2.1% of the domains with spam score more than 60. I have compared its backlinks to some other domains, those domains have more than 3 or 4% backlinks with spam scores greater than 60 but have much lower spam score as compared to mine, some even have 1% spam score? I have disavowed many backlinks but its not updated in Moz yet. I know there are 27+ factors which decide your spam score but how can I get the breakdown now as it was shown in the older versions of open site explorer like: No contact information, low domain trust, less internal links? Kind regards...

Help :New Spam Score
Hello Moz Community, I am a bit confused with the new spam score of Moz Link explorer. My website has a spam score of 17%. How bad is it? How can i know which factors are contributing to the spam score? in the OSE there were flags, but i cannot find any flags in the new link explorer or any info about the contributing factors. i have 90% of my backlinks from sites that are having less than 30% of spam score, but still my website is having 17% spam score.. i have checked my competitor, they are having 78% of the backlinks from domains that are having less than 30%, their spam score is only 1%..how is it possible? what are the other factors other than backlinks that affect the spam score of website? Thank you

Can improving page authority on all pages help overall domain auth?
Our website is made up of approx 4000 pages - some of which are old pages with a pa of 1. I am removing these pages (ensuring they don't have links etc). Can removing so many low scoring and useless pages impact on domain authority. Our DA jumped 4 points and i wondered if this was helping Example 4000 pages in total 2500 have PA 1 - these get removed will it look better for DA that overall there are now no pages where PA =1 and the site now contains higher PA pages only?

Help needed interpreting inbound link analysis please
Hi I am trying to determine how effective our store blog is and am trying to analyse the inbound links it provides to our store domain but am confused with the results, can anyone help please? For information the blog is on a subdomain of the store site, has plenty of relevant original content, and has been regularly updated over several years in line with basic Yoast SEO best practice. When I look at analysis of inbound links and linking domains for the store site in Moz Pro, the blog subdomain does not show as providing any inbound links. Google Search Console shows similar results, with no inbound links to the store domain showing from the blog subdomain in either 'search traffic > links to your site', or 'search traffic > inbound links'. Open Site Explorer for the store domain also shows no inbound links from the blog subdomain to the store with 'link source > only external' selected. But if I change to 'link source > only internal' then all of the inbound links from the blog subdomain to the main store that I would expect to see appear. Should I be concerned by the fact I can only find these inbound links under this one specific search and not in any of the others? Does this suggest a problem in the passing of any current and future SEO benefit from subdomain blog to main domain? Or should I not worry about it too much? I am looking to begin a full overhaul of all SEO for the store and blog from the ground up and want to be sure the connections between the blog subdomain and store are functioning properly before I start. Any help in unpicking this would be really appreciated Thanks very much

Can I use the keyword explorer to find negative keywords? We focus on a few things in our business that we focus on but the feedback that I get from the tool is not helpful
All in all, this business focuses in a very small area, and there are things that others in our business do that we do not.Yes,a guy that knows nothing about SEO... This is a junk removal business, and some of the competition do everything. This is a small outfit that only hauls junk.Much of the competition that we have sells junk bins,we do not.We just haul junk..we do not paint,or any of the things that they do. I just keep getting things sent to me me in my list here about bin sales etc,and it is making impossible to search for keywords without a way to manage what is coming in some way..Google let me do this, but I am just hoping to use this tool entirely if I am going to pay for it.Maybe I am lost being new,and confused. How can I use this tool? Are there any settings,or anything that you can teach a non SEO minded guy like me? Thanks
