What's going on with google index - javascript and google bot
-
Hi all,
Weird issue with one of my websites.
The website URL: http://www.athletictrainers.myindustrytracker.com/
Let's take 2 diffrenet article pages from this website:
1st: http://www.athletictrainers.myindustrytracker.com/en/article/71232/
As you can see the page is indexed correctly on google:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:dfbzhHkl5K4J:www.athletictrainers.myindustrytracker.com/en/article/71232/10-minute-core-and-cardio&hl=en&strip=1 (that the "text only" version, indexed on May 19th)
2nd: http://www.athletictrainers.myindustrytracker.com/en/article/69811
As you can see the page isn't indexed correctly on google:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:KeU6-oViFkgJ:www.athletictrainers.myindustrytracker.com/en/article/69811&hl=en&strip=1 (that the "text only" version, indexed on May 21th)
They both have the same code, and about the dates, there are pages that indexed before the 19th and they also problematic. Google can't read the content, he can read it when he wants to.
Can you think what is the problem with that? I know that google can read JS and crawl our pages correctly, but it happens only with few pages and not all of them (as you can see above).

Hello Or,
I just checked the most recent cache and it looks like Google does NOT see the content on the first URL (ending in /71232/) but does see it on the second one (ending in 69811).
This is the opposite of the situation you described above.
Yes, Google "can" execute Javascript, but just because they can doesn't mean they will every time. Also, perhaps not all of their bots can or do execute Javascript every time. For instance, the bot they use for pure discovery may not, while the one they use to render previews may.
Or they could have given the Javascript only so long to execute.
I also notice the page that is currently not indexed fully has an embedded YouTube video. Not that this would typically cause any problems with getting other content indexed, in your case it may be worth looking into. For example, it could contribute to the load time issue mentioned above.
When it comes to executing scripts, submitting forms, etc... Google is very much at the stage of just randomly "trying stuff out" to "see what happens". It's like a hyperactive baby in a spaceship just pushing buttons like crazy, which is why we run into issues with "spider traps" and with unintentionally getting dynamic pages indexed from form submissions, internal searches and other oddities in site architecture. It is also one of the reasons why markup like Schema.org and JSON-LD are important: They allow us to label the buttons so the bot "understands" what it is pressing (or not).
I apologize that there is not definitive answer for your problem at the moment, but given the behavior has switched completely I'm not sure how to go about investigating. This is why it is still very much a best practice to ensure all of your content is indexable by not rendering it with Javascript. If you can't see the textual content in the source code (as is the case here) then you are at risk of it not being seen by Google.

Hi Patrick,
We already tested all the pages with fetch as Google tool, sorry that I didn't mention is before but everything over there is ok. I see the 'Partial" status, but the issues are with one of the social plugins and without any connection to the content.
So, all the tools show that it should be ok, but google isn't indexing correctly the pages.
I already checked:
1. Frontend code.
2. No-index issues
3. Canonical issues
4. Robots.txt issues
5. Fetch as Google issues
I know that google can read JS, and I don't understand why he can read only part of the pages and not all of them (there isn't any difference between them).

Hi there
I would take a look at the Fetch as Google tool in your Search Console and see what issues arise there - I would do this for both your desktop and your mobile, so that you can see how these pages are being rendered by Google.
If you get a "Partial" status, Google will return the issues that they have ran into, and you can prioritize your issues & how you want to handle them from there.
You can read more about Javascript and Google here as well as here.
Hope this all helps! Good luck!

Google indexing .com and .co.uk site
Hi, I am working on a site that is experiencing indexation problems: To give you an idea, the website should be www.example.com however, Google seems to index www.example.co.uk as well. It doesn’t seem to honour the 301 redirect that is on the co.uk site. This is causing quite a few reporting and tracking issues. This happened the first time in November 2016 and there was an issue identified in the DDOS protection which meant we would have to point www.example.co.uk to the same DNS as www.example.com. This was implemented and made no difference. I cleaned up the htaccess file and this made no difference either. In June 2017, Google finally indexed the correct URL, but I can’t be sure what changed it. I have now migrated the site onto https and www.example.co.uk has been reindexed in Google alongside www.example.com I have been advised that the http needs to be removed from DDOS which is in motion I have also redirected http://www.example.co.uk straight to https://www.example.com to prevent chain redirects I can’t block the site via robot.txt unless I take the redirects off which could mean that I lose my rankings. I should also mention that I haven't actually lost any rankings, it's just replaced some URLs with co.uk and others have remained the same. Could you please advise what further steps I should take to ensure the correct URL’s are indexed in Google?

Does Google Parse The Anchor Text while Indexing
Hey moz fanz, I'm here to ask a bit technical and open-minding question.
Technical SEO | | atakala
In the Google's paper http://infolab.stanford.edu/~backrub/google.html
They say they parse the page into hits which is basically word occurences.
But I want to know that they also do the same thing while keeping the anchor text database.
I mean do they parse the anchor text or keep it as it is .
For example, let's say my anchor text is "real car games".
When they indexing my link with anchor text, do they parse my anchor text as hits like
"real" distinct hits
"car" distinct hits
"games" distinct hits.
OR do they just use it as it is. As "real car games"0 -
Bing indexing at a tiny fraction of Google
I've read through other posts about this but I can't find a solution that works for us. My site is porch.com, 1M+ pages indexed on Google, ~10k on Bing. I've submitted the same sitemaps, and there's nothing different for each bot in our robots file. It looks like Bing is more concerned with our 500 errors than Google, but not sure if that might be causing the issue. Can anyone point me to the right things to be researching/investigating? Fixing errors, sitemap crawling issues, etc. I'm not sure what to spend my time looking into...

Structuring URL's for better SEO
Hello, We were rolling our fresh urls for our new service website. Currently we have our structure as www.practo.com/health/dental/clinic/bangalore We like to have it as www.practo.com/health/dental-clinic-bangalore Can someone advice us better which one of the above structure would work out better and why? Should this be a focus of attention while going ahead since this is like a search engine platform for patients looking out for actual doctors. Thanks, Aditya

Unnatural Link Warning Removed - WMT's
Hi, just a quick one. We had an unnatural link warning for one of our test sites, the message appeared on the WMT's dashboard. The message is no longer there, has it simply expired or could this mean that Google no longer sees an unatural backlink profile? Hoping it's the latter but doubtful as we haven't tried to remove any links.. as I say it's just a test site. Thanks in advance!

What's the difference between a category page and a content page
Hello, Little confused on this matter. From a website architectural and content stand point, what is the difference between a category page and a content page? So lets say I was going to build a website around tea. My home page would be about tea. My category pages would be: White Tea, Black Tea, Oolong Team and British Tea correct? ( I Would write content for each of these topics on their respective category pages correct?) Then suppose I wrote articles on organic white tea, white tea recipes, how to brew white team etc...( Are these content pages?) Do I think link FROM my category page ( White Tea) to my ( Content pages ie; Organic White Tea, white tea receipes etc) or do I link from my content page to my category page? I hope this makes sense. Thanks, Bill
