Keyword Optimization for 2 Brands
-
We carry two brands, Buick & GMC. All of the most trafficked keywords that I'm finding in my research are structured like this:
buick denver
buick service
gmc denver
gmc service
How should I approach this situation so that I'm optimizing for both brands?
-
Thanks so much Alan, time to work
-
Take your top keyword phrase for each brand - that's the focus of the home page. Branch out from there.
-
Ah, but after thinking about this for a little bit, what should I do for the homepage? I'll still have the dedicated separation for individual brands, but how to focus the homepage?
Thanks
-
Hi Alan,
Thanks for the reply. I get what you're saying -- will definitely be more work but I know that the results will pay off in the long run.
Now to brainstorm the best way to make this happen within our framework...
Cheers,
Kyle

Topical separation is vital. I'd suggest having two sections of the site - one devoted to Buick and one to GMC. Each would then have a series of pages within that section devoted to that brand, and where you implement section level navigation - so that each page within that section has a sub-navigation component linking to each other page within that section. Aim inbound links to the top level page within each section as a primary task, and individual pages within each section as a secondary task.

Is it a bad idea to hyphenate keywords?
Hello, my understanding was that Google reads hyphens in keywords as spaces, but if that's accurate how come keywords with hyphens that I research with Keyword Explorer — for instance, hospital-acquired infections — rank lower when I include the hyphen? If the hyphen hurts SEO, do I have to remove them all from the blog or page in question? Removing hyphens means a blog or page will have punctuation errors, which is irritating to an editor, but I don't want to sacrifice the effectiveness of keywords, either. Thanks, in advance, for your response!

Is it worth creating a page for misspelled keywords?
I had thought the answer to this was no with the way Google search corrects mispellings. But in Google webmaster tools queries for a page I see the page ranking for a misspelled keyword. And looking at Key Word Finder it tells me the search volume for that keyword is high. But, when I search for the keyword myself it Google it auto corrects the results to the correct spelling. Is it worth creating a page for misspelled keywords?

How to leverage keyword research on-page.
I'm a newbie and I'm a little embarrassed to ask this question, but here it is. Let's say I've done my keyword research and have 200 keywords. How do I use that for on-page/site optimization? Or do I not use it for on-page/site optimization? I guess I'm unclear about the relationship of keyword research and on-page/site optimization. Thanks.

Why does this keyword have much greater volume in Bing Keyword Research Tool than Google AdWords Keyword Planner?
I'm using the Google AdWords keyword planner and Bing Webmaster Keyword Research tool. For both, I'm trying to get accurate search volume for the exact term "advertising sales". Over the last thirty days, Bing reports a volume of 5,988. Google's average monthly search volume is 880. Given the market share Google has, I would expect a much higher volume, especially when compared to Bing. Can you offer some ideas of why this might be happening?

To Meta Keyword or Not To Meta Keyword, That Is The Question
I can't seem to get a reliable answer on this one. It seems to be split down the middle as far as who agrees and who doesn't, of course some of that content is outdated. So, for today, should I be using the meta keywords tag or not? Thanks, Steven
