Robots.txt - blocking JavaScript and CSS, best practice for Magento

Hi Mozzers,
I'm looking for some feedback regarding best practices for setting up Robots.txt file in Magento.
I'm concerned we are blocking bots from crawling essential information for page rank.
My main concern comes with blocking JavaScript and CSS, are you supposed to block JavaScript and CSS or not?

As Joost said, you should not block access to files with help in the reading / rendering of the page.
Looking at your Robots file, I would look at the following two exclusions. Do they block anything else that runs on a live page that Google should be seeing?
Disallow: /includes/ Disallow: /scripts/ -Andy -
Best practice is not to block access to JS / CSS anymore, to allow google to properly understand the website and give determine mobile-friendliness.

What do you add to your robots.txt on your ecommerce sites?

Linking to other peoples you tube videos related to our "How to do " articles on our website. Is there Best practices ?
Hi All, We are currently writing some "How to do" articles on our tool hire website and as there is alot of DIY related you tube videos out there, we thought It would be good to link to some of these at the bottom of our articles. From an SEO perspective, is there any do's and don'ts with regards how we should implement this. We are unable to do our videos so linking to others would be our preferred option. Does anyone know if this would give an SEO ranking benefit even though it's an outbound link to someone's video etc. thanks Pete

Magento Store Using Z-Blocks - Impact on SEO?
Hi Guys, I have a question relating to Z-Blocks in Magento. Our Magento store uses a lot of Z-Blocks, these are bits of content that are switched off and on depending on a customer’s user group. This allows us to target different offers and content to new customers (not logged in) and existing customers (logged in). Does anyone have any experience in how this impacts SEO? Thanks in advance!

URL Formatting - Magento
Hi, We are working with a client on Mangento who URLs are formatting Google friendly eg; productname.html - as seen in site search in Google) but when you click the link to the site it is adding on #.VEWKQxbc754 (or similar) The site is also having some page indexing problems as well Thoughts? specific settings/Add on in magento?

When migrating website platforms but keeping the domain name how best do we add the new site to google webmaster tools? Best redirect practices?
We are moving from BigCommerce to Shopify but maintaining our domain name and need to make sure that all links redirect to their corresponding links. We understand the nature of 301s and are fine with that, but when it comes to adding the site to google webmaster tools, not losing link juice and the change of address tool we are kind of lost. Any advice would be most welcome. Thank you so much in advance!

Blocking Dynamic URLs with Robots.txt
Background: My e-commerce site uses a lot of layered navigation and sorting links. While this is great for users, it ends up in a lot of URL variations of the same page being crawled by Google. For example, a standard category page: www.mysite.com/widgets.html ...which uses a "Price" layered navigation sidebar to filter products based on price also produces the following URLs which link to the same page: http://www.mysite.com/widgets.html?price=1%2C250 http://www.mysite.com/widgets.html?price=2%2C250 http://www.mysite.com/widgets.html?price=3%2C250 As there are literally thousands of these URL variations being indexed, so I'd like to use Robots.txt to disallow these variations. Question: Is this a wise thing to do? Or does Google take into account layered navigation links by default, and I don't need to worry. To implement, I was going to do the following in Robots.txt: User-agent: * Disallow: /*? Disallow: /*= ....which would prevent any dynamic URL with a '?" or '=' from being indexed. Is there a better way to do this, or is this a good solution? Thank you!
