How do you track badges?
-
I have had some success these days with a couple of badges I have created. It wasn't too difficult for the efforts to result in a bunch of links as they where on topics people are very passionate about.
My question is how do people usually keep track of what websites their badges end up on besides watching for analytics visits? There has to be an easier way to know who has used your badge on their website?

They dont use buttons no. They are basically text area fields that auto-select all on focus. Then the user can copy/paste into their website.
Your ideas for writing blog posts about people who use the badge is really really good though. Thanks for that

Do you have a button that users click on somewhere in the badge getting process? Could count button clicks
Otherwise have a page that links to everyone who uses your button if they leave an web address - thatd probably also boost your button uptake. or if thats too spammy, write a blog post a week about a site that uses your button - will help grease the wheels of collaboration in your vertical

Thanks for the input Alan Having a form would certainly be a sure fire way to track down where the badge ends up. I'm not wanting to do that though to keep it really simple for end users. More hoops to make them jump through, im guessing, would decrease the number of people who actually use it.
I may be stuck just checking on referring URL's to the landing page I set up for it I guess.

Rodney,
In my experience the only proper way to do this is to provide a mechanism where potential users are required to fill out a simple web form in order to gain access to them. Name, Web Address of the site it'll be used on, and email address are ideal fields.
And even then, some people may choose to fill in phony info.
If you want to go even further, the image would be stored on your servers and loaded on their sites dynamically. The problem with that is the delay in displaying as it pulls the image from your server onto their site.
Barring that, you're left to perform a search for that graphic out on the web, which is far from accurate.

Google Analytics Goals - Button Tracking
Does anyone know if there is a really easy way to track a button in Google Analytics yourself? It seems that most button click goal setups involve some use of tricky code and I'm wondering if there is a much easier way to do this that will allow us to simply setup and track certain button clicks as goal conversions in Analytics. Your help here is much appreciated!

How can I track my rankings on Google Images?
I noticed a small amount of traffic coming from a particular very generic keyword. Being pleasantly surprised that we are ranking for this, and after some digging, I found that we are actually ranking in Google images, rather than in the web results. How can I track whether other keywords are ranking in Google images? I use Rank Checker to track keywords in the main web results, but this doesn't have a function for Google Images. Help please - thanks.

Google Analytic Tracking Issue (&utm_nooverride=1)
Hello, We have a problem that means we are unable to track our AdWords and organic work at all. Looking at "/All Traffic Sources" and clicking on "Ecommerce Tab" in Analytics we can see that (made up ratio :)):
Reporting & Analytics | | jannkuzel
£2 is attributed to Google/ CPC
£1 is attributed to Google / Organic
But £100 to Payment Provider/ referral and also various referrals from banking transaction pages. All of the revenue/conversions are being credited to the payment provider or the bank security checks the payment goes through. After having done some research we have found that the problem may be that Google Analytics attributes the purchase to the most recent click (on the payment provider button) rather than the initial click on the cpc campaign/organic or direct etc. Some people have suggested using the "&utm_nooverride=1"
tag which we wanted to run past you guys and confirm whether adding
this tag to the payment provider 'buy now' button on our website will
presumably fix this referral problem? Alternatively does the tag need
to be entered into our CPC campaigns as well? Or can you please guide
us in another way? We have also heard that "cross-domain" tracking could be the solution. So we are really confused what to do and where hoping someone had maybe been through something similar and could advice before we fully launch into a solution. In addition, it should be noted that our 'Goals Funnel Visualisation'
of 'checkout' breaks up at the penultimate stage of the checkout. All
customers exit through the /checkout_process (penultimate) but are recognised returning to the successful checkout page but there is a missing link in between these
two stages as 0% pass through is shown even though they do return? Thank you so much in advance for all your help.0 -

I just wonder if we can measure outgoing visits from a specific URL with an online tool or not?

Tracking SEO tests
Trying to get some best practices on testing SEO changes. We are going to make a bunch of changes on subsets of pages. Say testing about 5 different on-page changes. Originally we were going to submit separate Sitemaps to GWT and see if our test sets get indexed, how quickly, etc. But we noticed that GWT says some pages in our Sitemaps aren't indexed even though we know they are (what gives?). So we thought, for each test, let's put a unique code on the page so we can see how many get indexed by Google. But that doesn't solve the issue: how many people clicked on our test pages. So we are thinking of putting a tracking pixel on the test pages, specific for each test. But then I am thinking, why not just create a separate Google Analytics profile and place that code on the test pages (set up goals to track visits per test since we aren't going to change the actual URLs). and on and on This is where you come in. What kind of tracking do you implement when you set up tests? Advice appreciated! E
