Linking root domains to your own site
-
I have been using the moz open site explorer tool and glancing at my competition. I noticed most sites if not all in the linking domains section have a link to there own site. How do i do this? On my site i have no established links and my score is only 1/1. Even with lower ranking sites that have there own site linking to there self have a 16/16. Any help would be appreciated I am pretty new to all of this. thanks

Hi Derek,

This won't help with what you are trying to do. DA (Domain Authority) will build over time as you start work on your SEO. I suggest you read their Beginners Guide to SEO as this will give you a good understanding of what you should be doing on your site.
You will find that every site has Internal Links to their own pages. This is gained through Menus or Inline Links where you reference another page on your site. This is used to help Google understand which of your pages are more important and is useful when you are crafting your site structure.
A big part of your SEO strategy, should be External Links. These will help further boost your DA, but there is a very definite art in doing this and I suggest you read these references before even starting.

I would also have some sort of content strategy in place as this will help you establish trust with Google and get some great content written for your blog (if you are running with one).
I hope this helps a little.

Hey Derek,
As I understand your question, you're referring that your competitor (abc.com) is showing under linking domain section, right?
Well it usually happens when your internal pages linked with each other and it's a good recommended practice. As far as the score is concerned, I think you're referring to "Page Authority". It means, the power of that page in terms of external links and other metrics. The more powerful links you're getting to that page, the more high that score will be.
See this explanation:
https://moz.com/learn/seo/page-authorityI'd suggest you to check out this guide for using OSE more efficiently:

Hope this helps,
Have a good Sunday!

Interdomain linking from partner sites
I'm looking for a bit of advice on best practices when it comes to linking domains that are operated by the same umbrella corporation. Are links from the header/footer no longer beneficial? Is there such a thing as too many links among domains? How would you reap the SEO value of a small network of sites that were associated? Thanks!!

Missing Inbound Linking Domains
For some reason, our websites seem to be missing a number of authoritative inbound linking domains which seems to be a primary driver in lowering our domain authority as compared to our competition. Does anyone have any feedback as to why this might not be populating or is there something additional we need to do to have these show up? If it doesn't show up in MOZ is it likely that Google might also not be seeing these as inbound link domains? Thanks as always MOZ Community!

Sending Domain Authority from Root www domain to *
Hello all Some advice please. Im working with a friend who has a website (obviously). Its based on wordpress and is accessible by the link http://exampledomain.com. The problem is he has some good links out there which are pointing at http://www.exampledomain.com. As yet Im uncertain how he has setup his DNS, he maybe is doing a forward which would leave the DA back with the www subdomain. What is his best practice to inherit those links into his actual domain? Thanks

Should I ask sites that link to me to update links that redirect?
I have found some links to my site that go through a single 301 redirect to get to my site. Should I contact these websites to ask them to update the link, or is that not worth the time?

Unable to view link from Apprentices gov.uk site
Hi, I've noticed that when some companies are advertising for apprentices on the https://apprenticeshipvacancymatchingservice.lsc.gov.uk website they gain a followed link from the site. When I then use opensiteexplorer the link doesn't show. Does anyone know the reason for Moz not picking this up? Am I not giving it long enough to show? Your help would be very much appreciated.

Are you careful about linking back to sites that link to you?
Suppose that a trusted website added you to their recommended links page. Do you worry that linking back to them from a page on your site will diminish the value of the original link?
