Google Update on the 6th July
-
Hi Mozzers,
Has anyone noticed a Google update on the 6th July?
A price comparison site I optimise has fallen off the SERPs for most generic terms, however still getting traffic for longer tail phrases.
Cheers
Aran

Keep in mind that PageRank is based soly on the backlinks pointing to your site. Having a "nice site" won't directly influence PageRank in any way. Also, PageRank is only 1 of many Google ranking factors...I recommend that you not pay too much attention to it.

Our previous site was complete flash with ZERO html pages. It and all the other pages were PR2. I think we had PR2 because we had a nice site, but Google had no way to verify what was really there.
We redesigned our site and removed almost all of the Flash. This was about 3-4 months ago. Google dropped all of our pages from PR2 to PR0.
Spent a lot of time prior to 7/6 improving things here and there. On 7/6 our home page jumped from PR0 to PR4 and a few went from PR0 to PR2. Most of the other pages remain at PR0.
We are still improving many things on our site. I can't wait until Google re-rates us. I'm pretty sure it's going to be a good thing.

Yes, it's a lot to do, and only time will tell how much we have to do to get results...

I've done a similar thing today,
1. Removed thin, stale pages from sitemap and implement noindex.
2. Begun to revise Duplicate content, however i have many many pages populated by xml feeds on a daily basis. eek...
-
My current strategy is to
- Reduce the number of duplicate content pages by adding noindex tags to pages that don't really need to be indexed.
- Add unique content to pages with duplicate content that I do want to be indexed.
-
it may be worth us swapping some ideas/findings.
if I find anything of value, I'll be sure to let you know.

Yes, a site I worked with lost all traffic on the 6th. See http://www.seomoz.org/q/website-penalized-3-times-by-google
It sounds like it was a change in the duplicate content algorithms.

Google inaccurate results: Common or error?
Hi all, While searching for our primary keyword, I can see 2 websites on second page results which are non-related to the keyword or industry but their company name is this keyword. Like if I want to rank and searching for "SEO", there are 2 websites which called "seo trucks" and "seo paints". I wonder how Google is ranking these websites for high competition keyword with 1 million searches per month. So the keyword in URL and this keyword mentioned across the website being their brand name taking over the other potential ranking factors like backlinks, relevant content, user clicks, etc..... Thanks

Have there been any google algorithm updates in the past 2 weeks?
Hi guys - we have noticed a site we work one has taken a hit on its rankings over the past week. We have been through all the usual reason - hacking, duplicate content, back links, other sites copying text etc - but can not find any reason why its rankings have been affected. Has any one else noticed unexplained changes in rankings with sites about a week ago? Thanks in advance! Phil

Google Panda July 2016
Hi Does anyone know what impact the recent slow Panda roll out may have? Obviously content, but would it perhaps include engagement/user behaviour factors regarding your on page content too? Thanks

Wrong Google pin locations
Did something happen recently that would affect pin locations on Google Maps? I've been updating Google Places pages, but not touching the address or pins - but I received a phone call from one of my locations that their pin location changed in the past month and now it is wrong. Meanwhile, another department recently had MomentFeed update the pins for accuracy. Thoughts?

Next big Google update. Andy ideas when?
I'm interested to find out if anyone has and idea of when it will be or good guesses I would be interested to hear your thoughts. I have put a big effort into an SEO upgrade on my site and I'm interested in what impact I can expect when the next big update comes. Assuming I have fixed the issues that had been causing my traffic drop.

How do I separate 2 Google+ business listings?
Ever since Google Places started merging with Google+, my client's business listing is now showing up in local search results incorrectly under another business name who shares the same address as them. Has anyone else encountered this problem or a way to correct it?

Webpage is ranking on google.ie / google.co.uk but not google.com?
One of our site webpage appears to be found in the first few pages on google.ie / google.co.uk but not on google.com. Is there such a thing being penalised on a specific Google domain? Traffic is healthy despite this but I want to rank well for the page in google.com. Any ideas?

What do you think Google analyzes for SERP ranking?
I've been doing some research trying to figure out how the Google algorithm works. The one thing that is constant is that nothing is constant. This makes me believe that Google takes a variable that all sites have and divides it by that number. One example would be taking the load time in MS and dividing it by the total number or points the website scored. This would give all of the websites a random appearance since there that variable would throw off all the other constants. I'm going to continue doing research but I was wondering what you guys think matters in the Google Algorithm. -Shane
