Pharma Hack/Grey hat SEO. Cannot get site to rank, tons of incoming bad links
-
I have been working on a website trying to get it to show up in the SERPs again. It is being indexed which is great, it has some errors that I'm fixing now. But for the most part it should be ranking. It don't show any penalties going on, but when I did a backlink search we keep getting the cialis, viagra etc inbound links. First thought was Pharma Hack. But it's not a WP site and I recently rebuilt it. So whatever bad code could have been there it's not anymore. It doesn't show up in google either for the search site:www.mysite.com viagra cialis etc...
So I'm wondering if anyone has any insight in a direction to point me? I don't understand what would be causing this to still not rank. Only thing it ranks for is it's name. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

This could be an outlier, but easy to check. Use a browser plugin and set the useragent to Googlebot. Browse your site. See if it is displaying anything funky. I have seen sites hacked so that when Googlebot is the agent, they show links to viagra type sites. I would otherwise agree that you need to become friends with the disavow tool asap.

I would definitely disavow all of the pharma links, but make sure your code really is clean on your site. I've worked with 3 sites so far that had the same thing happen, and although they were on WP like you mentioned you don't have, it's possible your site was still infiltrated.
Sign up for Sucuri.net or Wordfence premium and have them look at your site - definitely worth the cost of those subscriptions.

Hi there WeBuyCars.com!
Are Andy's and Marie's answers helpful? Can you provide any more information?
Thanks!

Hi. I remember speaking with you last year some time about link issues. How certain are you that your link profile is clean aside from these pharma links? Usually Google is pretty good at just discounting these, but if you've got your own unnatural links I think that sometimes spam like this can possibly hurt.
Have you seen this?

Also, what are you trying to rank for? Your title tag is optimized for your url and brand.

I have seen this before where it was trackbacks causing issues and injecting spammy keywords in to them. I have also seen RSS feeds carrying spammy backlinks.
It is also worth remembering that lots of the bad links like these will now be dead / removed / changed.
Have you done a disavow of these spam sites yet?

Somebody took an article from my site and posted it on there own site but gave it credit back to my site is this duplicate content?
Hey guys, This question may sound a bit drunk, but someone copied our article and re-posted it on their site the exact article, however the article was credited to our site and the original author of the article had approved the other site could do this. We created the article first though, Will this still be regarded as duplicate content? The owner of the other site has told us it wasn't because they credited it. Any advice would be awesome Thanks

Is this negative SEO? Should I disavow these links?
We have been doing our own internal link building for the last year and getting nice backlinks. As of the last few days, ahrefs is showing a lot of new links that seem very spammy. We have not hired anyone to do link building for us, and these are all being created on these sites under the same user name. There is a good amount of them popping up, and I fear we will be subjected to a google pentalty for unnatural links if its not addressed. My first question is, am I correct thinking this is negative seo, and not some random sites that picked up our content and is going across their affiliate websites? If so, then should I preemptively disavow all these links? Are there any good ways to stop this? How can I track who is placing these garbage links? Here are some examples of these bad links. I know I can find the webmaster via a whois but I think that really wont get me anywhere, but I could be wrong. Here are some examples of the links that started popping up yesterday and today. http://pligg-cms.info/story.php?title=student-loan-debt-relief

Negative SEO campaign just started against my site. What do I do?
As the question says, I have just got alerts of new links, being clearly a negative seo campaign against my site. We are talking, lots of spammy, rude anchor text type keywords being used. Whilst I only have alerts of a small number (around 30), it has just happened and I know from the type of spammy links they are that more will be coming. So, question is, should I disavow? Do I keep submitting new disavows every few days as more are discovered? Any advice will be greatly be appreciated.

White Hat - Black Hat, Really confused?
I am I really new when it comes to SEO and especially link building. I have been hooked into websites ever since I did my first just writing content on what I loved. Then came the number one ranking and enquiries! Since that time I have created many websites and have always relied on good on page optimisation and have got great results in low competition keywords. Now I am trying to make a living out of this business with multiple websites retailing products I am hitting more moderate competition on keywords and have found myself on a 30 trial with SEOmoz. This has been a huge eye opener for a beginner and I have not had much sleep since analysing all the data that the tools can give. (My wife thinks I have an online mistress). What has really got me stuck is the link analysis on competitors open site explorer! As I am becoming a real SEO research geek and creating spreadsheets on my competitors links I am finding many are paid directory links! (one off 30 dollars’) . From what I understand from Google is that paid links are against their guidelines? These links are from sites that are ranking above me? What I am asking is should I follow suit in a fine balanced mix or stay clear of paid links completely? Where I always write unique content on experience for my content category pages the real chance of organic linking is slim. Is the only way forward to buy the odd cheeky link?

Client Selling Links On One Site Hurt Their Other Site?
Hi, I have a client who is thinking about selling ads on one site they own via something like textlinkads.com. Do you think they run any risk of exposing their other sites to scrutiny, penalties or problems?
