Renew Our Yahoo Directory Listing?
-
Our yearly renewal for the Yahoo Directory is coming up. Has anyone cancelled their renewal, and if so, did you see a drop in SEO? Not sure whether to renew this or not. Thank you for any insight.

Hello Christopher,
As a general rule, a single directory link to your website is fairly insignificant (assuming you have a strong link profile for your website already). It is unlikely that cancelling this subscription will result in a significant rankings drop, unless it is your business' only inbound link, in which case I would strongly advise you to contact an SEO to provide you with link-building services (or you could do it yourself, there are plenty of link-building guides out there).
Here are some articles on ways you might build up a link profile:

Hope this helps and best regards,

It certainly could have an impact if it is one of the few backlinks you have. I would do the following...
1. In Google Analytics, check to see if you received any referral traffic from the directory over the last year. If so, you might want to keep it on those grounds alone.
2. Check in Open Site Explorer to see how many referring domains you currently have. Does the yahoo directory and sites that syndicate it represent a substantial proportion of your links? If so, you might want to hold onto it until you can build a larger, healthier link profile.
Charles is correct in that you shouldn't have to worry about a link from Yahoo (in an ideal world) because you should work to build a better link profile such that losing the directory link wouldn't have an impact.
Hope that helps!

Uhm, "drop in SEO"?
How do we measure that?
I hope you meant "drop in rankings". Well, listing on a directory doesn't affect any rankings, that's for sure. And this is surely not the most important thing in SEO world to worry about. If you have concerns about your rankings dropping from removal from a single directory, you got much bigger problems, my friend

What should I look for when choosing a good article directory for SEO purposes?
I have been writing SEO content for blogs for the past year or so, but I am fairly new to article directories. With SEO in mind, what makes a particular article directory valuable? Currently I'm using EzineArticles and Squidoo; I liked Ezine in particular because of their thorough review process. I saw that recently Squidoo also amped up their checks for original content as a result of Google's stricter policies. I was interested in using HubPages also since they are good about reviewing content. I'm just curious how much factors like this reflect on an article directory SEO-wise. Are there any additional factors that set a a good article directory apart?

Directories and Bookmarking
Our company has a wide range of linking strategies. Currently, our SEO team members are linking to directories more than anything else. Are there any advantage to this or should they put there effort elsewhere? My views on directories: these links are easy to acquire and offer little push to our SEO efforts. It appears that Google is no longer taking directories in consideration and essentially they could be hurting our rankings. What should our company do; should we stop linking to directories all together or keep it to a minimum. Also isn't bookmarking on the same lines as directories? What is the best way to handle this?

Where can I find a list of the top DA websites on the web?
I'd like to find a ranking of the top DA websites on the web. I'm mostly interested in US websites. I'd like at least the top 10,000 or so but the more the better. Is there a way to get this data from OpenSiteExplorer or another source? The closest I've found is Double Click's listing of the top 1000 most_visited_ (not DA) websites: http://www.google.com/adplanner/static/top1000/ Thanks!

How would one get on the Huff Po's "Around the Web" list?
On the huffington post they often have lists of links related to the article, near the bottom just before the comments. This section, when present, is called "Around the Web". See this as an example: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/linda-bacon-phd-ma-ma/health-at-every-size_b_1314339.html Do the article authors choose these links, or are they auto-generated somehow? I had a relatively small competitor appear here, so I'm wondering if there are any tricks to gett included. Thanks! Edited to add hyperlink

Importance of Directories
Hi there, I just started using the pro tool 6 weeks or so ago. I have done all the on page optimization I can and am starting to think more about building links to my site. What I want to know is how important are directories as part of this link building program? Should I treat doing an audit of what directories we are in, identifying what ones we should be in, and actually signing up for these ones as an important and vital part of the link building program? So basically how important are directories? We are a b 2 b business if that helps.I am kind of assuming directories are (still) important and that we should spend some time on this, but just wanted to get some expert thoughts on directories, approach to use etc etc. I reckon it should be easier than other link building, as we can at least pay a fee and get in the directory, so it’s less a case of someone doing us a favor as other links sometimes seem to be….
