Social Media / Articles
-
Hi Mozzers,
I have a couple of questions regarding starting out into social media with an e-commerce website. Most of my experience lies in niche content where a social media following is more natural.
Having completed most of the site audit (at least the planning). Its time to begin planning the next move into writing articles on the blog and heading out into social media to facilitate link building whilst i finish off creating the last of the updated website content.
I have plenty of subjects I can think to write about and many keywords to target with articles on the website. But I could do with some advice linking this into social media.
We have youtube, google+, facebook and twitter accounts but all of them are inactive bar profile information and have almost no following.
We sell technical measurement equipment across a selection of niches.
My plan is as follows so far,
1. Write 5-10 amazing new articles across the selection of products
2. Link to them all on each social media platform to begin populating each with content
3. Populate the website homepage with links to all our social media accounts to encourage following
3b. Include adverts stating discount codes etc can be obtained by following us on social mediaa little unsure where to progress from this point, I have no budget available at the moment, but may be able to obtain some if I can achieve some results without.
As always thanks for your time.

Greetings!
Sounds like you have done some good already done and plenty of work ahead of you. Looking at your plan, I have a few suggestions that may help.
1. On your articles, consider creating a how-to or demonstration video to go along with the articles. This will give you video content to go along with the blog that you can optimize separately and will make that article more "sticky".
2. I'd also consider something tangible people can download to accompany each article, like a guide, checklist, diagram, infographic or something else of value. Keep it short, like 1-2 pages at the most, and put your branding and contact info all over it. The more graphical the better to increase the sharability on social media.
3. In addition to homepage links to social sites, I'd consider them on every page. I'd also add social sharing buttons to your blog to make sharing the content easier for users.
4. At the end of your articles, suggest one or more products that tie in with the article as a call to action. Even stronger, offer a discount or bundled offer.
5. An outreach campaign to potential influencers can really boost your social media marketing efforts both now and long term. Find some bloggers or journalists, and start interacting with them in social media or even directly in email. I regularly solicit input and link to content of influencers, creating good will. That often turns into then doing the same in return, giving my great links and mentions in their content.
That's 5 quick suggestions. I'm sure there is some more good input from the group. Best of luck!

Is social networking really worth all the effort?
Call me old fashioned, but I can’t understand the buzz about social networking, I really don't get it, who in their right mind spends their valuable time conversing with a bunch of narcissists, chattering about what’s on TV, funny pictures and bragging about what they’ve done or achieved, it all seems so phoney to me. My site is reasonably popular, I get a rough 50/50 split of my visitors from referrals and organic and an infinitesimally small amount of traffic from social – Oh yes I hear you say,” that’s because you haven’t fully embraced social networking.” But here’s the thing, my social traffic doesn’t come from me at all, it comes from followers of my own social network (forums and user of my software liking and sharing my products and content), who have kindly shared on my behalf. Now when I visit Analytics to study the data from social traffic I find that it gives a huge bounce, 100% from Facebook, 93% from Twitter and 79% from LinkedIn, when my average is just 39%. The same applies to time spend on each page, less than a minute for all of the social sites, when my average in close to 7 minutes. So ok, social networking for traffic is a complete no go, let’s look at it from the perspective of out reaching. How can I break into that? I hate TV, I don’t find pictures of cats funny and I’m modest and humble, how can I possibly even begin to converse with these people? After using Twonk I got followed back by a good amount of users, but had to delete most because of the complete crap they were sharing, do I really want to know that someone ate lasgne for dinner, read about the top ten english railway stations, or what colour lego brick is someones favourite! Honestly I’m not trying to be funny with this post, and no offence to anyone here, but I just don’t get social networking, I’d love to but it seems a complete waste of my time and effort.

Social media profiles with same description - Duplicate content or reinforcing business details?
Hi, I am currently doing a Social media review and find myself wondering whether having exactly the same copy - or part thereof, on a businesses' Facebook, LinkedIn, G+, Twitter, profile(s) is likely to be viewed by SE's as a good or bad thing? Is it duplicate content and to be avoided? Or would it be viewed as a case of the business trying to ensure a consistent profile and therefore reinforcing your business details?

Google Auth and brands/individuals problem
So you can auth pages with personal google+ profiles - and its being suggested by some that this could now help rankings if that person has lots of people in their circles. So what about brand/companies content? why cant they auth the content with their Google+ profile to get the content ranking better. It doesn't seem right an individual blogger can do this but a company cannot who has written lots of guides. An example is a holiday company has written some awesome content on resorts around the World - how to use the auth for that content to rank higher? - currently only possible to link up an individual as writing the content not the brand/company itself. Any suggestions on this much appreciated. I do not want to lose any gain there might be from this new bonus given from Google.

Which tool you best recommend for Social Media management, engagement, and monitoring. reputeme.com - trackur.com - viralheat.com - sproutsocial.com?
Please consider the pricing, ease of use, and accuracy, also, perhaps the social networks being monitored( as far as I am concern it's only trackur that monitors google+) Also if you have other recommendation, that would be awesome too. Thank you. PS: I love seomoz Social Media reporting, I just have other requirements too. Thanks.
