International linkbuilding for an national company
-
Hi guys,
Just wondering, what’s you take on doing international linkbuilding for an national company?
In Holland there are very few websites / blogs / information platforms about certain niches. Let’s take SEO for example. There are a few marketing websites, a few SEO related websites but at an certain point my attention goes to what’s happening in America (on Moz for example).
I think writing an YouMoz post is a great way to add something to the community. If that would reward an backlink, I’m all motivated to start writing! But does this help our rankings for Dutch query’s?
I can see a lot of examples in which “the place to be” isn’t a Dutch website, but some big ass international forum / website etc.
I would love to hear all of your opinions!

Links are links... hence, if you earn an editorial link from an authoritative website, even if it is in English or not explicitly targeting your country target, it will count in terms of pure web popularity.
A stronger link profile will improve the overall SEO performances, therefore also the ranking for dutch keywords.
Said that, it is safer to maintain a balance between "national" and "International" backlinks, so to improve the geo-targeting. Moreover, a .nl website that has only or a big percent of backlink from site not targeting dutch can become suspect.
As Stramark said in his answer, having an English version of your site in a subfolder can justify, and even offer better opportunities for using a an International link building strategy for improving also the national SEO efforts.

Hi Wouter,
Thanks for your reply. Since you're from Holland as well, do you insert international linkbuilding in your offers to Dutch clients? Or do you only go for these links if you happen to stumble upon a good opportunity?

Have some international links can always help you out for your authority. Creating some englisch content/resources might be a good idea in order to attrackt links.
Creating your own profile page in englisch is a great place to start. This way your international buddy's can figure out what you are about, and you can link to it with a good reason.

Should I build internal links to my homepage?
Ive done a lot of internal linking before but its always been for other inner pages but now I need to do it for a websites homepage but this got me thinking if its even worth doing and should I be doing it at all? For the first question I was thinking that surely the homepage has more authority than any of my inner pages so how would internal links from inner pages help and for the second question Ive read a few posts like this Kissmetrics one here where it says you shouldnt do it. There are two types of links you should avoid using in your content: Homepage. Most sites have too many links to the homepage as it is. You would rather strengthen internal pages to boost the overall SEO of your site, rather than simply point more links at the homepage. https://blog.kissmetrics.com/commandments-of-internal-linking/ thoughts?

Linkbuild on 'new' or 'old' url?
Hi, I'm trying to rank for a keyword. For the last year and 4 months the rank hasn't changed much. It stays on the 3th page. Within this period the rank has first gone down and then up. Three months ago I started doing linkbuilding for the url the keyword was linked to. This is a main category page. Lately, I don't know when exactly I've discovered that the keyword is ranking for a different url, a product category of these items for 1 brand. I'm wondering if it's wise to shift my focus and start using the 'new' url for linkbuilding? The 'old' url isn't in the top 100 for the keyword. However, if you search for the url in Google, it shows up. And, if I'm advised to shift my focus to the 'new' url, is it advisable to go back and change the backlinks to the 'new' url? A question related to the above one, is there another tool like Open Site Explorer which shows you an overview of the backlinks directing to a deeplink? Like MajestickSEO. I'm trying to get the most extensive overview possible. Thanks in advance.

External Backlinks - Should I remove/disavow external blog posts done by SEO company?
Last year my company hired an SEO company to build backlinks for targeted achor text keywords. It turns out that they wrote average to below average blog posts that had content related to my business, but that were placed on odd websites, not related to my business. They did this for about one year before I fired them. Should I try to get each of those blog posts removed and then disavow them? If the external links back to my site are nofollow then it is my understanding that I don't really need to worry about them...is that accurate? Is it too risky to keep any external backlinked content alive when it is on a site that is unrelated to my business?

Internal Links: How Important and How to Boost
A couple of my competitors have WAY more internal links than I do, and are outranking me. Could that be an important factor? (Let's assume all other things equal, i.e. don't bother explaining that it's complicated and many factors are involved, please.) If boosting the number is important, what's the best way to do it (site is heliski.com) thx, tj

Anchor text internal links
Hello, I read about a practice (also suggested by EasyWP SEO plugin) whereby I should place on my current page (call it page A) an internal link to another page (call it page B) using as anchor text the keywords I want page A to rank for. I dont really understand this and it is a cause of great confusion in my head... Can someone explain this to me and why this would be good practice? I would have thought that having as anchor text to page B a keyword I want page A to rank well for would steal juice from page A and give it to page B? Or am I missing something else? Thanks !
