Main Website Redirects to Mobile Website, Mobile Website counts this as direct traffic, is there a way to tell what the source/medium is?

Hello,
The situation is that someone is arriving on my main website https://www.example.com and being redirected to http://m.example.com. When this happens my analytics says that the traffic is all direct coming to my mobile site. However, I know people clicking on my google cpc, and some google organic users are hitting the main website and being redirected. Before we didn't have as good of a redirect on our main website so I could tell organic and cpc traffic coming in, now my main website has a huge drop in these categories because they are redirecting to mobile but I can't tell on my mobile how much traffic from each is going to the mobile site.
Is there a way to fix this? Is it because my main website is https:// and mobile is a http:// (as I know that sometimes makes traffic direct) or is it a bigger problem that can't be resolved?

Please tell me that you're using rel="alternate" tags for your desktop site and rel="canoncial" tags on the mobile site.

If you're not, you need to implement ASAP. Make sure you're following all of the guidelines in the linked document.
Issues like this are why I typically recommend responsive sites for all but the best-staffed mega e-com sites. You need to redirect page to page - not from a category to the home page or something. You also need to make sure your canonical and alternate tags are absolutely perfect. I'd also recommending annotating the mobile site as directed above in the sitemap, especially if you've seen issues in the past.
Out of curiousity, what kind of redirects are you using? They should be 301, 302, or JavaScript redirects, because that's what Google supports. If these are done on the server side (and both versions have analytics installed) you should preserve the landing page info. Note that all redirects should redirect to the page indicated in rel="alternate" lest you give Google the wrong signal.
Read over the guidelines and let me know if you have any questions. If the guidelines are implemented correctly Google will rank your mobile site for mobile users, which will cut down on the redirects. This thread may also be helpful on how to implement redirects:

Tag it with GA campaign tracking. I know it will be a little weird for users to see strange parameters, but nobody pays much attention to browser address bar anyway.

Track subdomains in the same analytics property/view
Hello to everyone, this is my first question (kind of a newbie here :-D). I have a website that spans over 4 subdomains + the main domain and I'd like to have a place where I can see the total page views, events and goal completions. Main domain is langhe.net, and subdomains are eventi.langhe.net, servizi.langhe.net, shop.langhe.net, about.langhe.net. The website is based on wordpress and I'm using google analytics for wordpress by yoast as analytics plugin. The configuration of the plugin is as follows: all the website have the same UA-XXXXXXXX code The Subdomain Traking field (setDomainName) is filled with .langhe.net Cross-Domain tracking is enabled Cross-Domain Primary Domain (setDomainName) is langhe.net Cross-Domain Tracking, Other Domains field is filled with: about.langhe.net, eventi.langhe.net, servizi.langhe.net, shop.langhe.net. In the GA property I've created an Advanced Custom Filter configured this way: Field A -> Extract A = hostname (.*) Field B -> Extract B = request URI (.*) Output To -> Constructor = request URI $A1$B1 Field A Required: yes Field B Required: No Override Output Field: yes Case Sensitive: no I was wondering it this is the best way of doing it, or if there are other "best practice" ways to obtain what I'm looking for (for example with this configuration it's become quite difficult to separate the traffic sources for each website). My GWT tells me that verification has failed numerous occasions - will this stop my site being crawled?
I launched www.over50choices.co.uk 6 weeks ago and have had trouble with google indexing and crawling all pages. It tells me 143 submitted & 129 Indexed, but the site has 166 pages? It still shows the old home page image in GWT - which is v annoying! Whilst the site is verified by GA & HTML Tag, it tells me in the Verification section that "reverification failed" on numerous occasions - they seem correspond with when google trys to process the site map. Is this a coincidence ie verification fails when its trying to process the site map, which in turn is leaving me with an out of date site map and therefore not all my pages submitted or crawled? Or will this not effect the googles ability to crawl the site? Your help please. Ash

Why is my traffic dropping so hard?
Hi guys, My traffic has been dropping pretty hard from just over 3k to around 250 in the last few days. I've ran a few tests using Google webmaster tools and Open Site Explorer, as well as answering a pretty cool quiz that was created by an SEO to determine if I'm the victim of any Google updates etc, and everything is looking okay... What do you think could be causing this issue? We're only just gearing up to start on a SEO campaign. At the moment no SEO is being done other than just casual blogging. CcZoXP7.png

What will you do when seeing the rank and traffic are dropping?
No black-hat SEO strategy was adopted, so we suppose it's not a penalty, but ranks and organic traffics are dropping. What will you do in this situation? And how long it takes for you to make sure it's not a normal flux, but something wrong happens on your site? Thanks in advance

To 301 Redirect or NOT?
Hi, This site has been so helpful in receiving not only answers to my questions but explanations too. With so many opinions and motives on the internet explanations help one to decide in which way to go. Here is my dilimna, as always, all input is welcome and very appreciated! I have a site that has more links to www.domain.com and less to http://domain.com , however, for our local search and I do not know why - our http://domain.com has better position in search engines and (www.domain.com has way more links) Is there any reason for this? However, in generic term, (no locality mentined) our www.domain.com shows up in the results. My site is hosted on Yahoo webhositng which does not allow for .htaccess 301 redirects, someone on this board was really nice and has alerted me to Godaddy (my domain is hosted there) and introduced me to a DNS 301. I called Godaddy and they said it would be possible, and also told me that I would lose all my email with Yahoo. I have managed to backup the email and am leaning towards the Godaddy- DNS redirect, just wanted to know if I would see a big difference in SEO. Links (different root domains) currently - http://domain.com 55, www.domain.com 1000 plus. Thanks for any input, if amnyone knows.

Website not responding to web request
Hi, I'm attempting to create a campaign, but the website I want to analyse won't allow SEOmoz to crawl the site stating that the site does not allow 'web requests' - can anything be done about this? Thanks, Adam
