How defined does the anchor text need to be for a domain url?
-
Ok, I'm looking to clean up my domain with irrelevant Anchor text linking to specific URL's. Whether, it's my root domain or a particular product URL. I'm finding a wide variety of terms (anchor text) pointing to my homepage, category and finally my product pages.
Example, the Anchor text "Paragon Print Systems" is pointing to my homepage "barcodefactory.com" does this hurt my homepage enough to either have the link/anchor text removed from linking to my homepage?
thanks much!,

Hi Warren,
Generally speaking, it is very common to see most links pointing to the Home Page of a website. This may not be the case in e-commerce sites which specialize in the niche product. In that case, you might expect heavy inbound linking to your product pages rather than your Home page. If irrelevant links make up the majority of your link profile (i.e. Automotive links pointing to a Lawyer's website) then they will not do much to help you and may harm your relevancy score with Google.
In your example, if nothing on barcodefactory.com features "Paragon Print Systems", then it is not doing you as much good as if your site had a page dedicated to it.
There are some great video tutorials Rand did on the value of anchor text:

Where Anchor Text Is Now:
Generally speaking, you want to make sure that anchor text from links is branded rather than commercialized. What this means is that you want your brand to show up in the anchor rather than the product itself. For example, if you wanted to sell Goodyear tires, you would want the anchor text to read "Goodyear tires" rather than "tires for sale" or "cheap tires".
To answer your question in brief, unless the link is coming from a completely irrelevant or spammy source, you are probably gaining more from it than you would removing it based on the anchor text alone.
Hope this helps and feel free to follow up with me if you like,
Rob

Hey Warren,
Personally irrelevant Anchor text isn't bad at all it shows that your site is doing true link building as google wants other people to be building the links and choosing the Anchor for you.
Sometimes it can help you break up your Anchor text too which is great as Big G doesn't like overused Anchor texts.
I love using ahrefs.com Anchors Cloud to really get a good understanding of Anchors. I would be more worried if an Anchor is been over used.

Worth Dropping www. from Domain Name to Shorten URL
The Moz page grader identified several pages where the only problem is the length of the URL, above 75 characters. The site uses uses the www. prefix, and has for years, since 2001. Is it worth dropping the www. and doing a redirect to https://domainname.com to gain the 4 characters

How much text is recommended for a homepage?
I'm working with a client who is redesigning their site and the new design is very image heavy. Does anyone have any recommendations on the minimum amount of text the homepage should have so that it will rank (or at least not be penalized)? It's a site created by a known brand, but the site itself and URL are relatively new. Katherine

Domain Authority vs. Page Authority?
I have a couple of questions about this. First of all is one more important than the other? Also, I currently have a website setup for www.domain.com, should I try to change that to domain.com without the www? How is it possible to grow page authority yet I am having a hard time growing domain authority.

Recommendation: Add a canonical URL tag referencing this URL to the header of the page.
Please clarify: In the page optimization tool, seomoz recommends using the canonical url tag on the unique page itself. Is it the same canonical url tag used when want juice to go to the original page? Although the canonical URL tag is generally thought of as a way to solve duplicate content problems, it can be extremely wise to use it on every (unique) page of a site to help prevent any query strings, session IDs, scraped versions, licensing deals or future developments to potentially create a secondary version and pull link juice or other metrics away from the original. We believe the canonical URL tag is a best practice to help prevent future problems, even if nothing is specifically duplicate/problematic today. Please give example.

I know that this question has been asked in the past, and that website.com/blog is better for seo purposes than blog.website.com. We want to setup a custom blog on our site, using Wordpress. Our designers/host are telling us that buy using website.com/blog can causes issues b/c Wordpress is open source, and our site could be hacked? Is there anything we should do about this? Any suggestions? Any Advice appreciated!!! Thanks!

Question about URLs
Hello! I have a client that wants to upload an URL like this: www.example.com/keyword/page-name.html The main problem is that www.example.com/keyword/ doesn't exist and gives a 404 error so I'd prefer not doing that...... What do you think about this? And if the client wants to go ahead, is there any solution? A 301 to the final page would help? Thank you in advance!

Does a www.domain.com/# count as a link?
Hi I thinking about consolidation some info from 5 pages onto 1 by using the hashtag at the end of the link to send people to the rigt section of the page. Does each link to the www.domain.com/# count as link so that I wont really gain any linkvalue by doing it?
