How to do LinkBuilding in 2015 without getting affected?
-
Hello.
My name is Palla Sridhar. from India. small time blogger.
I have a SEO site which recently had 12 pv/day.
I recently did 2 guest posts on 2 sites. On 1 site, I included link to my site's article in the content and author bio. In another I just did it in author bio. After that my traffic dropped to 4 pv/day.
Is there any official guide from Moz, on how to do link-building? Is the above process of doing link-building correct? How to do it without getting our traffic affected in the long run and short run?

Hi Sridhar,
as Ria mentioned, there are many factors to consider. This is the official MOZ guide; https://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-link-building which has plenty of great tips.
Often, we get carried away with focusing on external links when it comes to link building. There should be more focus on authority building, and this comes from many more places than just external sites.
High quality external links are certainly a large factor in ranking highly.
However, link building strategies also need variety. There are link opportunities EVERYWHERE, which are often overlooked. We wrote a blog post on this, which you can see here; http://www.inmarketingwetrust.com.au/link-building-smart-strategy-online-success/
Hope you find that useful!

There are so many factors to consider:
-
The website you're blogging on:
-
Quality
-
Relevance
-
Authority
-
Your guest post itself:
-
Quality
-
Relevance
-
Other outbound links
-
The link to your website:
-
Anchor text
-
The page it's going to
Those are the basics of the basics, but just to get you looking at link building in a better way. But the drop in traffic isn't necessarily attributed to the link building you've been doing either, and you need to take a closer look at everything.
The question you should be asking with every link "built" is: **Is anyone actually going to benefit from this link? **Will anyone see it? Does it provide any value to anyone? Would anyone actually click this, and would they be satisfied with the page it takes them to?
If no, then it probably comes across as spammy.

Depends on the blog. Not all guest blogging is the same. If the blogs in question were just for guest blogging and have no real topics they focus on you could have hurt yourself. But if the blogs were high quality and related to your site then they could have helped.
Do you have social media that you promote and actively work on alongside your blog? What else do you do to encourage readership beyond just posting a blog? You might be wondering "I just want to know about links" but this is the new link building. Readership tends to link things so building readership is critical. Then you need to (as Rand put it) amplify your content.

Once you have cleaned up links / disavowed them how to get google to take notice quicker
Once we have contact webmasters and had some links removed / changed from money anchor text to brand anchor text. Or failing that once we have submitted spam URLs to our disavow file, should we just wait and keep and eye on the how quickly google re caches the URLs or should we try and force google to recrawl the urls quicker by submitting them to Google's submit url tool ?

Is there value of consistently getting a link from a high DA site?
Is there value in consistently getting a link from a high DA sites? For example, consistently posting on a blog monthly rather then only doing it once and getting a link/being done with it. Could you list the pros of consistently getting links on high DA sites?

Linkbuilding in Latin America
I've started a magazine in Latin America about creative ways of making money, working from home, learning technical skills from home. We are not that spammy like other "make money" magazines, but of course we want to sell information products in the future. So far we are 3 people. I already have years of SEO experience but I built blog networks of expired domains and ranked for specific keywords. In this case I need more Brand backlinks and get Domain Authority. Unfortunately we failed pretty hard so far. What we tried: 1.) We searched for 2 infographic linkbaits that were very successful in the US, redesigned them, used similar content and reached out to around 60 websites. We offered them that we write a guest post made for their website from a professional journalist and embedding our infographic. From the 60 websites and no deal. The graphics costed us around 400$ to create. 2.) We tried to interview people (in the hope that they will link back to us from their website after the interview). Unfortunately from around 120 e-mails only two responded - only one linked back to us. We contacted them through the contact forms of their websites. 3.) We offered money for a blog post. After 2 hours of reaching out, we got 6 backlinks for an average of 40$ per link + time. Is the whole blogging culture only existing in Anglistic countries? It seems to me that people only link out to big brands (who started offline) or they charge money. The websites that rank for terms like "make money" (ganar dinero) have only paid- and spam backlinks. A few exceptions by people who had contacts to journalists of big magazines. What's my strategy?

How to sell linkbuilding?
Howdy SEOmoz, I was wondering what your approach is in selling linkbuilding to clients (we're an agency). Do you sell it as "linkbuilding" or more like content creation/content marketing? do you bill by the hours, instead of project based? How would you calculate the number of hours required? (I know "it depends" :-), but still some insights would be cool) Do you start immediately with more creative strategies (widgets, infographics)? I'm really looking forward in learning how you guys tackle this. Best regards, Nik

Factors affecting google places citation indexing
I'm sure we have all been there; filling out yellowbook/yahoo/citysearch/merchant circle citations flawlessly, only to wait months and months for google to decide if they're worth 'attaching' to your places listing. I still believe that the number one factor for getting them to stick is consistensy of information, however my question is what factors affect the speed of 'stickiness'. I've implemented google alerts and rss feed/link pinging services to get citations from hotfrog and BOTW indexed almost the same day, however after examing the google places listing, I'm not showing them as listed as citations; which leads me to my next point; that google places could possibly have their own 'indexing rules and speed?' I've heard several suggestions on how to accelerate indexing, and quite a few of them included building backlinks TO these citations to improve pagerank. Do mozzers have any 'foolproof' ways of getting these citations to 'stick' to google places listings within days, or weeks, instead of months?
