Quickest way to deindex large parts of a website
-
Hey there,
my clients website was set up with subdirectories for almost every country in the world plus multiple languages in each country. The content in each subfolder is (almost) identical. So no surprise: They have a big problem with duplicate content and ranking fluctuations.
Since they don't want to change the site's structure I recommended limiting the languages available in each subfolder with robots.txt. However before doing this we marked the contents to be exluded with noindex, nofollow. It's only been 2 days now but I hardly notice any decline in the number of indexed pages.
I was therefore wondering if it would speed up things if I marked the pages with just noindex instead of noindex and nofollow.
It would be great if you could share your thoughts on that.
Cheers,
Jochen

Thanks for the hint Dirk! I've used the tool and it works great. I even found a handy chrome extension ("WebMaster Tools - Bulk URL removal") that made the removal of my 3,000 subdirectories very smooth and saved me about 25 hours of manual work!
WebMaster Tools - Bulk URL removal

Hi,
There was a similar question a few days ago: https://moz.com/community/q/is-there-a-limit-to-how-many-urls-you-can-put-in-a-robots-txt-file
Quote: Google Webmaster Tools has a great tool for this. If you go into WMT and select "Google index", then "remove URLs". You can use regex to remove a large batch of URLs then block them in robots.txt to make sure they stay out of the index.

How to rank my website in Google UK?
Hi guys, I own a London based rubbish removal company, but don't have enough jobs. I know for sure that some of my competitors get most of their jobs trough Google searches. I also have a website, but don't receive calls from it at all. Can you please tell me how to rank my website on keywords like: "rubbish removal london", "waste clearance london", "junk collection london" and other similar keywords? I know that for person like me (without much experience in online marketing) will be difficult task to optimize the website, but at least - I need some advices from where to start. I'm also thinking to hire an SEO but not sure where to find a trusted company. Most importantly I have no idea how much should pay to expect good results? What is too much and what is too low? I will appreciate all advices.

Menu Structure for Large Ecommerce
Hi We have a large ecommerce site, the menu at the moment is limited by the amount of categories we can display. As our site is so large, the menu at the moment only has the top categories and their immediate subcategories, however we have level 3's which go deeper, as there is such a large range. At the moment, they;re not in the top menu, but I want to put a case forward to say why we should include them - I am however mindful of a menu not being overcrowded with hundreds of links. Has anyone had a similar experience of this? Or a case study on how adding important categories to the menu helped improve things? Becky

XML Sitemaps - Multi-lingual website
Hi Mozzers, I am working with a large website that has some of its content translated across multiple languages. I am planning on using The Media Flow to create an HREFLANG Sitemap for content on various languages. Please see the attached image for the questions below. Thanks! Section Highlighted Yellow: When there is a URL that does not have a translated version, should it not be included on the same HREFLANG sitemap? Alternately, could I just remove the languages that are not being targeted, so this would just reflect English language targeting? fqO9Dvk

Same website, seperate subfolders or separete websites? 12 stores in two cities
I have a situation where there are 12 stores in separate suburbs across two cities. Currently the chain store has one eCommerce website. So I could keep the one website with all the attendant link building benefits of one domain. I would keep a separate webpage for each store with address details to assist with some Local SEO. But (1) each store has slightly different inventory and (2) I would like to garner the (Local) SEO benefits of being in a searchers suburb. So I'm wondering if I should go down the subfolder route with each store having its own eCommerce store and blog eg example.com/suburb? This is sort of what Apple does (albeit with countries) and is used as a best practice for international SEO (according to a moz seminar I watched awhile back). Or I could go down the separate eCommerce website domain track? However I feel that is too much effort for not much extra return. Any thoughts? Thanks, Bruce.

The right way for review count?
Hi, I have a question that kinda bothers me for a while now and would love to hear you guys thoughts on this matter. One of the categories in my websites is services reviews, for example:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Ouzan
http://www.websiteplanet.com/review/questionform/ Recently we upgraded the site and gave users the option to write their own review as well. Now as you can see, the way it works is that we write a very big and informative/professional review ourself and in addition we give users the option to write their own reviews and share their experience with the service. Now My question is:
There is the itemprop-review count thingy, now we did it so if 0 users wrote a review it will show 0 reviews on the count.
Is it correct? (Feel free to check the site code yourself)
Or is it wrong? because their is actually 1 review (our editors review) I hope I explained my self well...
If not, please let me know what is unclear. Thanks!0 -

Future-proof website to optimize SEO.
Hi All, This is my first post and hopefully a question that could help others in similar positions. Say we are trying to rank for the keyword "security testing tools". Product name is "Sectest" and its a security testing tool. *We currently have an "SEO" section that is purely good content and the idea with this is to be able to rank for "security testing tools" talking about what to expect and look for in such tools and relevant content - Linking to our product page at the end of it. structure is brand.com/security-testing/tools and that would have a link to brank.com/products/sectest Obviously product pages would get their meta tags and content re-written so we don't compete for the same keywords. Is this approach optimal? or would google want us to link directly to the product page instead of "information" about security testing tools? Nobody in our sector is taking this approach and we have already started it, but I am starting to wonder if I am getting into big trouble further down the line. Thanks and best regards,
