Is It Required to Clean Natural Backlinks from an Irrelevant Niche?
-
Hi Friends,
My company website is a Travel related website and it is 18 years old domain. We purchased this domain in the year 2010 from a 3rd party person. That person was using the domain as a software portal like brothersoft.com. That person generated so many backlinks from software related websites like forums, gaming websites and so on. So, do I need to clean all those backlinks now because all those backlinks are from high page rank websites.
Not only the above concern I have. My website is very popular in Saudi and we get lot of backlinks naturally sometimes from the irrelevant niche. So, is it necessary to clean up those backlinks also. Pls advice me on this.

Google still internally values / devalues the links they discovered based on their algos. I think in 2011, when penalties and WMT notifications started to pop up, many SEOs forgot that Google still does a good amount of this internally. They'll react when it's egregious.
If you see pure spam in your backlink profile, Google suggests you go ahead and disavow. If you see otherwise good domains that are irrelevant (which it sounds like you do), then there's no reason to panic until Google misreads the intent and thinks you're trying to game the algorithm. If you're not doing that, you're probably in fine shape continuing to build good relevant links and creating the most relevant and valuable website possible.

Link audits are always helpful (hence why Moz specializes in them) but you want to identify bad or poor links. Relevancy is something that Google will determine for itself. I mean if a tire shop is linking to a florist Google might not give that link much weight but what if the tire shop has a blog and they want to thank said florist for sending flowers after a coworker dies? Google might not give it a lot of relevance to it, but it's also not necessarily spam.
Unless you can clearly identify that a given link is actively hurting you, I wouldn't remove/disavow it. Remember that link disavow is a flamethrower in that it can kill weeds and burn your house down. Which it does depends a lot on how you use it.

Periodically you should do a link audit. I call it a link detox and it is an ongoing issue for most sites.
It is really up to how how to judge a link but I use a combination of tools inclusion moz and majestic. Trust is a big factor. There are several factors to look at in undertaking a link audit.

Hope that assists. All that said if your site has never had a penalty I would do a tidy up, and be conservative in my disallows.

Backlink Transparency with SEO Agency
Hello everyone. I recently started working with an SEO agency and today they gave me an updated keyword report which showed some increase in rankings. I was not aware that any backlinks had been created yet so I asked for a report of the links. Their response is below and I am just wondering if this is normal practice being I have not worked with any type of SEO agency yet. "

Hey Daniel, We release a small report on them which the guest blog team will do soon. We don't reveal all backlink sources unfortunately because people have tried to bother the webmasters we have and basically steal our techniques. But rest assured you will be ranking at the top of the pack with our methods 😃

Impact of distribution of backlinks across multiple pages
Community, I would be interested to see if anyone has been seeing any experiments, experience documentation, or other data that would give context around the impact of pointing backlinks not just to your money page / home page but distribute it across pages. When doing competitive research I often run into competition which has lower domain strength and page rank but a link profile that is more spread out across their domain; these competitors often outrank my site despite their individual page properties being weaker. Any reference to existing documented experiments, personal experience or guidance is welcome.

Backlinks through dofollow commenting
I'm interested in building backlinks to my photography business site by leaving good, engaging comments on other photographers' DoFollow blogs. Is this a good idea? Is it worth the effort? Through a little research, I've managed to locate more than 40 dofollow photographer blogs that have a domain authority of 35+. The idea is to take an hour or so a week to leave 10-20 comments on their blog posts. Would you consider this a good strategy? I rank on the first and second page of most of my keywords that I'm working on, but I want to rank 1st or 2nd on them. I used the keyword finder tool on google adwords to find the keywords that are the most searched for in my area. Surprisingly the competition is not large, so I'm fairly comfident I can get there. I've already optimized my site substantially and I'm looking into link building. Thoughts?

Link profile clean up
Hello everyone, we are actively working on cleaning the backlink profile of some of our sites. But I am confused on what needs to be done. Now it's possible to find some toxic or deadly domain where our site has been linked from without our approval, but if we remove all those sites, and may be all the site that have a poor domain authority and/or no PR rank (< 1), our profile will look too clean don't you think? . My questions are : If we over clean our profile are we not manipulating our links, so Google will not like it? Is a natural profile will not be a mix of all those domains (poor and good quality)? We are trying to see what to keep or try to get deleted/disavow, so we could try to claim some of our lost ranking back 🙂 Thanks for your help on this, Cheers, Mounir

My Backlinks droped form 3500 links to 700 in few days
I know it's strange but this what happened : i had like to 3500 Backlinks from 600 different domains and in one week it droped to 700 backlinks from 260 Domains .. I believe these huge backlinks was there for just 6 or 7 weeks from directory submissions where i was nearly in all the directories sidebar as a new link .. Now my ranking droped from 1st position for more than 6 keywords( for more than a year ) .. to the 5th and 6th page where its just jumbing in the different positions for more than 10 days now and this for all Keywords .. and my question is it a google dance cause i used to has a good ranking with this few number of links and this huge number was there for just 6 weeks .. or shall i go wild to come back to this number of backlinks again ..
