New pages not ranking
-
I published some new landing pages about a month a go which are much better quality than previous pages and on an optimised URL. The old pages never ranked and the new pages aren't ranking either although they are much better.
The old pages 301 redirect to the new pages.
Any quick ways I can at least get them ranking? Not expecting Page 1 overnight but to at least see the new pages on Page 5 would be great!

The interesting part about your question is that the old pages never ranked, and the new pages aren't ranking either. Are you trying to rank for a keyword that's too difficult? Does your site have a manual or algorithmic penalty? Are other pages ranking on your site for different terms? You could have technical errors that are preventing the site from moving forward, or the keyword you're trying to rank for may be too difficult given the authority of your site vs the competition.
Can you share more details about this situation? Without knowing the site and the target it's pretty hard to give any real recommendation. Every site with relevant content to the target keyword phrase and tuned up onsite should at least hit page 5 as long as the keyword isn't overly competitive.
Would you be able to share more about this situation?

Hey:
I would check this:
- Submit a sitemap.xml with the landing URLs and see if Google has indexed those pages (other way it's using the search operator "site:" in Google with the URL to check if it's indexed, e.g. site:domain.com/landing.html
- Check if other pages are ranking, if not, maybe your site has a problem (robots.txt blocking all the site, noindex tags on the section of your site, Google penalties that you can check in Google Search Console)
- If other pages are ranking, check if those pages may be duplicated from a SEO perspective. With "site:" check if other pages of your domain are ranking for the core keyword of one of your new landing pages, e.g. "site:domain.com dark chocolate".
- If there's other pages that appear first than your landing, you should decide what you will do with this. If your new landings are better, you should redirect the other ones to the new landing, or use "rel canonical" on both pages pointing to the new landing
Let me know if this works, if not, we can see other options.

Hi!
Sounds like you did a great job optimizing the new pages! Perhaps what you can do is to check if the pages are indexed? If the new pages aren't indexed, then that might be the reason why they aren't ranking at all. If the previous pages ranked, but the new ones aren't even in the top 50, that suggests to me that the new pages aren't indexed.
The best way to do so is to simply access your Google Webmaster Tools account, then under the Google Index tab on the left, click on the Index Status tab and take a look there.
Here's a great guide to requesting a re-indexing of specific pages too: http://www.websitecouncil.com/get-website-url-indexed-google-minutes/
Hope it helps!

Help.. there was a html and php version of my home page on my server for about a week. Now lost all rankings!
Our home page has disappeared from the Google SERPS completely. It won't even show for a search of our business name although other internal pages appear. Site appears in bing for our keywords but not for our business name. When I republished the site I got a message saying there was a php and html version of the site on the home page. I deleted this immediately but was then advised by another staff member that they had also got that message the week before but not done anything about it - so I think it was out there for about a week. Could this be the cause of the ranking drop? We have also done the following: Checked GWM for robots issue, manual action, crawl errors, blocked URLs - all good. Some crawl errors on other pages relating to broken links. All sorted and marked as fixed. Checked for duplicate content - redirected non www version of site to www Checked back links Removed video from home page that was temporarily unavailable when we did fetch and render Added canonical tag Added H1 tag that was missing Coding checked - all looks good There has been no change to the content of the page. We have fetched and rendered and resubmitted for indexing but it's still not coming back in SERPS it did for a short time the other day and then after a couple of days disappeared again Prior to all this it had ranked really well for our most important keywords for years. It's not a new site. The page is indexed as it comes up when doing a site: search. Please can anyone help? Nobody seems to have the answer and we don't know what else to do. The site is NSFW NSFW https://goo.gl/dwA8YB Main keyword sex toy party

SEO implication of adding large number of new product pages
If I have an eCommerce website containing 10,000 product pages and then I add 10,000 new product pages using a bulk upload (with limited/basic but unique content), does this pose any SEO risk? I am obviously aware of the risks of adding a large number of low quality content to the website, which is not the case here, however what I am trying to ascertain is whether simply doubling the number of pages in itself causes any risk to our SEO efforts? Does it flag to the Search Engines that something "spammy" is happening (even if its not)

Keywords going to Subdomain instead of targeted page(general landing page)
Why are some of my keywords going to subdomains instead of the more general/targeted landing page. For example, on my ecommerce website, the keyword 'tempurpedic' is directing to the subdomain URL of a specific tempurpedic product page instead of the general landing page. The product has a page authority of 15 and the Tempurpedic landing pages with all the products has an authority of 31. I have also noticed that my 'furniture stores in houston' keyword directs to my "occasional tables" URL! instead of a the much more targeted homepage. Is there something I am missing here?

Does site size (page count) effect search ranking?
If a company has a handful of large sites that function as collection of unique portals into client-specific content (password protected), will it have any positive effect on search ranking to migrate all of the sites to one URL structure.

What has a better chance of ranking alongside my main site for my company name, a subdomain or new domain?
Hi Moz, Do search engines really treat subdomains as separate domains in this regard? Or are we more likely to get more real estate on the first page with a new domain? Our goal is to have our main site and this new subdomain or domain ranking in positions 1 and 2 for our company name. This is going to be a careers site/portal. Thanks for reading!

Update content or create a new page for a year related blog post?
I have a page called 'video statistics 2013' which ranks really well for video stat searches and drives in a lot of traffic to the site. Am I best to just change the title etc to 2014 and update the content, or create a totally new page? The page has 2013 in the URL as well which may be a problem for just updating?
