We have a website that has awesome metrics but will not rank - any thoughts?
-
Our website www.mikestaff.com (Detroit wedding services company..djs, photographers, videography) has fantastic competitive metrics, as in we beat the competition at every ranking factor, but we are still buried in the actual SERPs
We are trying to rank for similar/identical keywords as our competitors in almost each of the main categories of the site: specifically detroit wedding dj...photographer...videographer..etc. We also have a Chicago office that we are trying to rank the site for with specific chicago pages. The website makes you choose right at the beginning what market you are in - Detroit or Chicago.
We have A grades on all of our main keywords and the pages that we are trying to rank. But again we are buried on the second and third page of the SERPs in most of these keywords.
Help - Moz community :-)Any thoughts on what we might be missing?

Thank you Anders for your help! To answer some of your questions. We have not ran the new report with the number based system for page grades. I will do that and see where we are at for that keyword. We were previously graded A for Detroit wedding dj.
I don't believe we are doing as well as we could with internal linking. What kind of internal linking strategy would you take with this page? Suggestions?
External linking is pretty steady, although 90% of our high valued links, are going to the home page.
As far as the competition goes and their strategy, I am not seeing them do even half of the work that we are doing. The one problem we had, was the site was blacklisted about a year ago. Some seo hack was hired and ranked the site in 3-4 weeks, but then Google cops showed up and shut it down. It took a lot of money and effort to get a clean bill of health from Google, but it has been a slow climb back out. The site has been clean for a whole year now, it just seems like we should be dominating based on our metrics and efforts, but alas we sit on page 2-3 for some of these important keywords.
Any help is appreciated - Ryan

Thanks Martijn, we were using the page grades tool to optimize and had previously received an A for the keyword "detroit wedding dj", but I agree it is not that prevalent on the page, and not currently in the H1. Also as Anders pointed out we have more than one H1 one the page, which we could change as well.
Do you think the having the cookie based location popup hurts our SEO at all? As in you have to choose a location first before anything on the site?
-
Hi Ryan.
I agree with Martijn that relevancy is very important.
Also after just spending some time at the same page that Marijn referenced to: http://mikestaff.com/detroit-michigan-weddings/services/dj/ I see that you have four H1 on this page. You should only have one and I think it's important that it includes your targeted keywords.
Have you run a new on-page report since Moz updated and went away from letter grades to numerical scores?
You should also look at your internal linking, are you utilizing internal linking in a way that promotes your keywords.
How is your external link building going? Are you getting some high valued links?
What are those pages that rank highest in the SERP doing differently than you?
Hope some of this helps.

Hi Ryan,
By just looking at one keyword I think there is already a lot to gain in the content on your site. The relevancy of this page to your keyword: detroit wedding dj is quite low as the keyword is exactly matched only twice on the page and just somewhere in the body text: http://mikestaff.com/detroit-michigan-weddings/services/dj/. I hate saying that you need to use it more in the headings and the rest of the content but it probably will help. If the relevancy on the page itself isn't good enough then you might not win it although your metrics against most competitors will be much higher.

Will two navigation components (one removed by Javascript) impact Google rankings?
We are trying to eliminate tedium when developing complexly designed responsive navigations for mobile, desktop and tablet. The changes between breakpoints in our designs are too complex to be handled with css, so we are literally grabbing individual elements with javascript and moving them around. What we'd like to do instead is have two different navigations on the page, and toggle which one is on the DOM based on breakpoint. These navigations will have the same links but different markup. Will having two navigation components on the page at page load negatively impact our Google SEO rankings or potential to rank, even if we are removing one or the other from the DOM with JavaScript?

Now that Google will be indexing Twitter, are Twitter backlinks likely to effect website rank in the SERPs?
About a year (or 2) ago, Matt Cutts said that Twitter and FB have no effect on website rank, in part because Google can't get to the content. Now that Google will be indexing Twitter (again), do we expect that links in twitter posts will be useful backlinks for improving SERP rank?

Would a .co.uk Website Looking to Rank in Baidu Require a Internet Content Publishing License?
Bit of a specific one, but if there's anyone that can help it's you guys. If a .co.uk website is looking to rank in Baidu with a .co.uk/cn subdirectory, would we require an Internet Content Publishing License? Taking a step back, it might be there's two parts to my question: How likely is it a .co.uk. could rank in Baidu, with simplified Chinese language content? In order to have a chance of ranking, would we require an Internet Content Publishing License?

Website not being indexed after relocation
I have a scenario where a 'draft' website was built using Google Sites, and published using a Google Sites sub domain. Consequently, the 'same' website was rebuilt and published on its own domain. So effectively there were two sites, both more or less identical, with identical content. The first website was thoroughly indexed by Google. The second website has not been indexed at all - I am assuming for the obvious reasons ie. that Google is viewing it as an obvious rip-off of the first site / duplicate content etc. I was reluctant to take down the first website until I had found an effective way to resolve this issue long-term => ensuring that in future Google would index the second 'proper' site. A permanent 301 redirect was put forward as a solution - however, believe it or not, the Google Sites platform has no facility for implementing this. For lack of an alternative solution I have gone ahead and taken down the first site. I understand that this may take some time to drop out of Google's index, however, and I am merely hoping that eventually the second site will be picked up in the index. I would sincerely appreciate an advice or recommendations on the best course of action - if any! - I can take from here. Many thanks! Matt.

Why am I not ranking in Google, but I am in Yahoo and Bing?
The website in question is: www.stbarthexclusives.com Our keywords are currently ranking for both Bing and Yahoo, but we're not appearing anywhere on Google. The website is being crawled successfully, but we still don't have any results. I hoping somebody can point me in the general right direction to fix/correct this problem. Additionally, there's a decent amount of "rel=canonical tags" on the website. If that helps your evaluation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Can I Improve Organic Ranking by Restrict Website Access to Specific IP Address or Geo Location?
I am targeting my website in US so need to get high organic ranking in US web search. One of my competitor is restricting website access to specific IP address or Geo location. I have checked multiple categories to know more. What's going on with this restriction and why they make it happen? One of SEO forum is also restricting website access to specific location. I can understand that, it may help them to stop thread spamming with unnecessary Sign Up or Q & A. But, why Lamps Plus have set this? Is there any specific reason? Can I improve my organic ranking? Restriction may help me to save and maintain user statistic in terms of bounce rate, average page views per visit, etc...

Redirecting my new Website URL to my old Website URL
Hi! OK, I am semi - new to SEO Moz but have been self-teaching for 3 years. However I am stuck.. I have been operating my e-commerce site from www.shopadornonline.com for the past 3 years. I just purchased www.shopadorn.com Right now Shopadorn.com re-directs to www.shopadornonline.com because all my products and links go to shopadornonline.com/productblahblahblah I guess I am stuck. Not sure what to tell my web designer to do? Do I give up on having shopadorn.com OR do I start re-directing customers and doing 301 re-directs? I think from what i have read that it is bad to have traffic going to both shopadorn and shopadornonline as they compete for rankings? Where should I start?
