If I bid on my brand name, will it make the keyword more expensive for my competitors

Our brand name is being bid on by out competitors. If we bid on our own brand name, for which we rank #1 for all our profiles and website, will we make our competitors cost per click higher?

Is your brand name trademarked? If so, you can use that trademark to remove ads that contain your trademark in their ad copy (here's the Google form for Trademark complaints in ads).
Generally speaking, it's a good idea to bid on your own name. Case in point: we started TV ads this year and while we rank #1 for our brand, when the TV spots started we saw an enormous surge in people searching our brand name. Also, remember that some searches (especially on mobile) do not show any organic results above the fold. Bidding on your own brand name should be an integral part of your marketing strategy. Don't worry about making it more expensive for your competitors.

Yes, it will make your competitors cost per click higher. Mainly because in this case you will get the highest quality score. Bidding on your own brandname gives (most of the time) a 10 out of 10. Competitors will get a very low Quality score (not relevant) and have to bid more to rank higher.

Depends on what position you'll end up. Which likely will be position nr1 as the quality score for your own brand name will likely be very high. Then you would drive up the CPC probably, but I must say that brand bids are usually very low. So only if you have thousands of clicks on them every month it probably won't affect your competitors spend that much ;-).

Re-Branding Website
Hi everyone! I'm currently in the process of re-branding a website, and am really worried about the SEO consequences of doing so... The site I'm working on has recently been seeing a large increase of organic search traffic (almost 25% each month for the past 3 months) and I want to do my best to avoid screwing that up in the process of changing the aesthetic of the site. A couple specific questions I have are: Does changing the stylesheet, but none of the on-page content affect SEO? Would condensing menu items (i.e. putting all services under 1 item named "services") have a positive or negative effect? Neither? A competitor has a search term in their brand name - Can we outrank them for that search term?
Hi Mozzers, I have been putting a lot of work into ranking for a certain search term. We have managed to get our homepage to #3 for that search term. #1 is a comparison site, so I am not overly fussed with beating them - we probably won't. But we do want to hit #2 and in all fairness, we have better content and have put more into our SEO efforts than the current #2. I think they are ranking so strongly because their brand name is exactly that search term with the word "go" in front of it. Google even spits out their extra links under the result as if it was a branded result. I know EMD's don't hold much weight any more so I'm guessing this is all to do with their clever brand name choice. My question is, can you outrank a competitor like that? If you're selling wooden rocking horses and your company is called toybox.com for example, but your competitor is called GoWoodenRockingHorses and their domain is www.gowoodenrockinghorses.com, can toybox.com ever outrank them for the search term "wooden rocking horses"? Long Exact Match Domain, or short "Brand" domain?
I've searched and found a lot of discussion regarding the benefits of using Exact Match Domains, however I'm still unsure of what is a "too long" domain to make it not user friendly. I'm working on a new web application that help users design their own <product>. </product> Let's say that the product would be canvas paintings as an example. Would you choose the domain www.designcanvaspaintings.com if it was available? Or would you rather create a "brand" like paintify.com that is shorter and has a more "brand" feeling to it.

Whar are the Keyword and Link Implications of renaming a Website
I'm about to change the name of a popular site classyauto.com to nationalvehicle.com. The reason for the name change is mainly because of the negative report on classyauto from years past. We've decided to rename the company to National Vehicle for that reason and other reasons. With that, the current site does not currently rank high for many of the natural organic niche keywords we want to target. But, it does have a good amount of links and traffic. I would like recommendations on the best method to rename the site including any ideas on what to do with existing directories, links, etc. efficiently and effectively. What's the best strategy for dealing with old ripoff reports that dominate your name rankings?
We are just now starting to work on our site optimization. There are a lot of old ripoff reports and other complaints that surface, specifically around our name search. Our competitors use this commonly and our clients come accross regularly. We have made management changes, and real changes in the business since then, but we don't know the best way to get our positive news to replace old negative news. Any ideas? List Quick and Dirty places to seo-tag images/content for new brands
I'm helping a new brand (service industry) to try to dominate the first page for their own name. They have a name that also exists in another state AND a negative Yelp review which (shows up #4, whilst they show up #1 on google unpersonalized search). Aside from Linkedin/Facebook/twitter, what are good places to Tag Images and have them show up under the search for this company's name. This is a picture/heavy industry (jewelry) and I'm looking to create profiles on several sites that would immediately show up if I tag the content properly. Are quora/pinterest good choices? I need to grab-bag as many properties as possible. Secondary question: would these properties on quora etc, respond well to exact-match anchor text links to shoot them past the negative yelp rating that is showing up #4 for their brand?

Big business associated with "pets" and other terms used for animals might fall away to terms such as "animal companion". Some people think that the term "pet" is politically incorrect. http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2011/05/09/dnt.pet.politically.incorrect.CBC?hpt=T2 Time to go out and register "AnimalCompanionSupplies.com" I doubt that very many people are going to start searching for "animal companion food" but. the people who adopt these new terms will be, in my opinion, the same folks who buy high end goods and stuff a lot of items in their shopping carts. 😉 J/K
