Domain Authority
-
Hi
I wanted to find out if anyone knew how to discover why DA may have dropped? Ours has gone from 26 to 25 - I know it's not much, but I wanted to find the reason.
One thing which happened was our developer company wiped redirects, which did impact rankings - would this also have affected domain authority or do I need to review our backlinks again?
Thank you
-
Thought so! Thank you for the feedback
-
That's definitely long enough for search engines (and Moz DA) to notice and react accordingly. Best of luck to you in your climb back up!

They were down from 27th November to 24th December.
The issue with our redirects came from our entire web catalogue being deleted - another glitch when developers were working on something unrelated.
So between 27th Nov - 30th Nov the whole website apart from the homepage was pretty much gone.
Pretty big issues, which will take some time to rectify.
Thank you
-
How long were the redirects down? Were there any other site changes that occurred around the time of the DA drp?

Hi Logan,
Thank you for the reply.
These weren't removed intentionally and have been put back as they were. However I'm just concerned about the fall out from this.
The issue was that rather than redirecting, they had removed 301's so the new URL was a 404 and the URLs reverted back to their old structure.
We shouldn't have lost any backlinks, I wasn't sure if it could be something else
Thanks!

When you remove redirects, you also effectively remove any links pointing to your site that pass through those redirects. For this reason, it's not usually recommended that redirects are removed. Something I do to track which redirects are actually being hit, is adding source/medium UTMs to the resolving URL of my redirects - see example below. This pushes data into Google Analytics and allows me to see which redirects I don't need (i.e., if they don't show up in GA reports after a specified time frame), and which ones are still active.
Example of 301 redirect with source/medium UTMs:/my-old-URL >>> /my-new-URL?utm_source=/my-old-URL&utm_medium=301
That being said, if you had some high quality links passing through any of those redirects, it could certainly cause a drop in DA.

Why is wrong domain being indexed?
We have 2 domains: revolve.com and fwrd.com (unrelated to each other, but hosted on the same server). If you do a site search for revolve.com but enter a designer brand that is only carried on FWRD (not on Revolve), the domain "revolve.com" pops up in the SERP, which is redirected to FWRD.com. Ex. https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=site%3Awww.revolve.com isabel marant Why is Google indexing the revolve.com pages, which don't actually exist? Thanks.

NEW WEBSITE WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO RECOVERY THE AUTHORITY OF OLD DOMAIN NAME?
HOW TO DO RECOVERY AUTHORITY OF OLD DOMAIN NAME? I got some advise on this in another post here on MOZ based on this i need a few answers TO SUMMERIZE**:****.** My client got some REALLY bad advice when they got their new website. So they ended up changing the domain name and just redirecting everything from the old domain and old website to the front page of the new domain and new website. As the new domain not optimized for SEO they of cause now are not ranking on anything in Google anymore. QUESTION 1 According to my client, they use to rank well on keywords for the old domain and get a lot of organic traffic. They don’t have access to their old google analytics account, and don’t have any reports on their rankings. Can anyone suggestions how I can find out what keywords they were ranking on? QUESTION 2 I will change the domain name back to the old domnain name (the client actually prefer the old domain name) But how to get back most possible page authority: For information titles, descriptions, content has all been rewritten. A - Redirect I will try to match the old urls with the new ones. B - Recreate site structure Make the URL structure of the new website look like the old URL structure Etc. the old structure use to be like olddomain.com/our-destinations/cambadia.html (old) newdomain.com/destinations/Cambodia (new) Or olddomain.com/private-tours.html (old) newdomain.com/tailor-made (new) does the html in the old urls need any attention when recreating the permalinks in the new websites. Look forward to hear your thoughts on this, thanks!

301 Pandalized Domain to Authority Domain?
Hello, If I redirect a Panda penalized domain (DA 65, bad link profile) to another authority domain (DA 35, clean link profile), will it still carry a penalty? I've heard cases where a panda penalized domain moved to a brand new domain carried the penalty.

How to migrate from an asp.net to wordpress without loosing domain authority?
I would like to migrate my current website, which is asp.net, to WordPress. However the current asp.net is sitting on hosting which is windows based and WordPress isn't very compatible. Do I need to migrate hosting to a Linux based hosting provider? But if I do can I still migrate the asp.net files from my current website so I can 301 redirect? Any help on this would be great. Regards, Tom

Buying a domain banned by google
Hi , I came across a super domain for my business but found out that it was a great domain with 100s of link backs but is now banned by Google search engine meaning Google does not index content from that domain. Since the domains linkbacks are from my domin does it make sense to but that domain and redirect those link backs to another (301) and hope that the new domain gets some juice ... I know it is sounding crazy and may not be the best thing to do ethically but still wanted to check if its possible to get some juice.. Rgds Avinash

A question of rankings (with actual domains)
Working with the main site featured in this Open Site Explorer comparison (you'll need a pro account to view this), and have been for quite some time. Recently we've slid behind Ebay (huge brand, I get it), but the other competitors don't really make sense to me. Main phrase is pontoon boats, and maybe I'm too close to this, but we seem to be in the best shape overall in terms of the domain, the page itself, and even our social media is pretty successful (we're closing in on 5,000 likes and have a pretty engaged audience). More internal linking is an opportunity, but I'd like another set of eyes (or several for that matter) to weigh in on opinions. I'm a bit stumped. Thanks Mozzers!

International Domain and URL Method of Preference
I'm seeing varied opinions and methods preferred for domain/URL structure on international websites. A specific example we have now is an international brand in Asia, USA, Brazil/South America, Australia, New Zealand and Africa. Their current domains are all fragmented across the brand and our goal is to have them unified, examples of their issue here; country.brand.com

www.brand.com.au
www.brand.co.nz What I'm looking for is an approach that will have the best long term impact but no short term losses as well. I'm leaning toward www.brand.com.eu or www.brand.com/eu/ Looking at SERP's for other countries, subdomain geographic segmenting doesn't seem to show on any first pages in the SERPs. There is one other option I'm still interested in finding out more about, geographically segmenting sites and pages through canonical or hreflang. Interested in hearing some additional POV's. Thanks!
