Referral issue in Google analytics
-
We have an eCommerce website that counts paypal as a referral source in Analytics.
The site takes people to Paypal to make a payment and then back to the website to a Thank You page once that payment has been made.
Due to this, Analytics sees this as a conversion that has come from Paypal, and also records it as a referral source, when we know this is not really the case. This also distorts the data in analytics and prohibits us from clearly seeing which channels sales have come from.
Is there anyway in Analytics to include Paypal as a part of the website so that it does not record Paypal as a separate referral website?

Thanks Peter and John, your answers were helpful and assisted us to resolve our issue!

Gavo,1. Does you PayPal account have your Google Analytics tracking code on it? That's the first step, which may not be possible to implement.
2. If you get GA on the PayPal account, then you will have to pass cookies using the Auto Linker in Universal GA and exclude referral traffic from PayPal in the exclusions list like Peter suggested.

3. Even if you get this setup, I'm not sure it will work the way you want because you are going from your domain, to PayPal, and back to your domain. That 3 step process seems like it would break every time.

You need to exclude PayPal from GA tracking:

https://docs.shopify.com/manual/settings/general/google-analytics#exclude-referrer-domainsBecause this broken your statistics. On links you can find how to make it.

Can Segment capture organic traffic? If so is it more reliable than Google Analytics?
Hi mozzers, We just learned that our standard GA hasn't been as reliable as we hoped so and we are trying to find other ways to track organic sessions. Which solution would you consider? Is Segment one of them? If so, is it more reliable than Google Analytics? Thanks

Tracking Sessions for 301 Re-Direct in Google Analytics
Trying to track clicks for individual slides on a homepage slider. I cannot enter UTM codes on the slide links, just choose from a dropdown containing pages on my site (WordPress). So, I set-up 301 re-directs for all the slides. /slide1-redirect

/slide-2-redirect etc.. Will these redirect pages show up in GA? I cannot see them. I'm trying to create a Dashboard for Homepage slider clicks. John0 -
Https Referral Issues
Hi Moz! We are having some trouble passing along referral data to our linked websites. We are an advertising platform that counts on our clients seeing our traffic in analytics. We recently switched to HTTPS and implemented the meta referral <always>however, we are still experiencing issues with clients not seeing our referral traffic. Are there other ways to make a full-proof fix so they will always see us as a referral? I know the referral tag should help but it isn't supported by all browsers. </always> Also, would there be an issue if we have our site (https) linked to their http site that redirects to https? Even with the referral tag, we are seeing issues. I feel so lucky that our actual transition to https went fine but now with all this referral traffic on clients analytics, I am concerned we are losing the credit we should get for the traffic to their site. Thanks Moz Community!

Track PDF's in Google Analytics
Hi Mozzers, Is it possible to track PDF's via Google Analytics/Google tag manager? I'm not only looking for PDF downloads but for the actual activity when someone opens an interactive PDF document. So would it be possible to have onclick events on buttons in the PDF etc... Many thanks!

Google Analytics and DNS change
Our new alumni application is going be tested at domain uva.imodules.com . We are going to collect traffic data with a Google analytics account number UA-884652-XX. So going to uva.imodules.com/myPage.html would send its data to Google Analytics with that account number. Then when it is ready for production we are going to just change the domain name of the application and switch the DNS over to dardencommunity.darden.virginia.edu . So going to dardencommunity.darden.virginia.edu /myPage.html would send its data to Google Analtics with that SAME account number. Aside from having the testing domain data in the same profile are there any other issues/problems we may run into?

Google Analytics Organic Keyword (Not Provided) Alternative Hacks?
I'm sure everyone is sick of the (Not Provided) keywords because I know I am, and Google reckons that you should only see 10% or less (I'm currently around 13% and growing). I am seeking alternatives or hacks that will help display the keywords? If you have a hack to actually display the keywords, please share it your ideas and thoughts? I recently implemented a hack that will show the landing page of the keywords which is better than nothing. But as an eCommerce site, I have about 10% of my transactions which not provided, knowing the keywords would really help. Would love to hear your thoughts?

Google Analytics Report throws up Google as a referrer
Good morning from Wet & Windy 12 degrees C wetherby UK... Using Google analytics I've noticed in the traffic sources refferer subsection some traffic is categorized as originating from Google. Whats puzzling me is.... I know a huge amount of traddic stems from Google but as the below screenshot illustrates only 21 visitors come from Google: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/google-refferal-sources-top-levelcopy.jpg And when i drill down some are coming from Google mobile 😞 http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/google-referral-sourcescopy.jpg Is traffic categorised as Google referrer down to Google hiding searches via ssl as explained here: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/google-referral-sourcescopy.jpg Any insights welcome 🙂
