Different Domains on Same IP
-
Hello
I'm just wondering how much of a difference it makes having links to a site from 2 separate domains that are on the same IP, compared to if the domains were on separate IPs?
Thank you!
Sam

If 2 links come from different sites, but they are in the same IP, those links will pass less juice than if they were in different IP.
Likewise other have responded.
I recommend you to not worry about that. After all, there are finite IPs and there is able to be infinite sites.
Of course, you should not abuse. Even more, if you're running a PBN, be extremaly careful on the external links you create.Gaston.

One thing I would also add is, don't be afraid of linking at all, if the link is relevant, SEO history told us that external linking is bad. This is only now true if what you are linking too has no relevance to the page whatsoever.
Linking to a great source for more information would only bolster your page as you will be giving the visitor a richer experience. If you can supply the information internally without duplication then internal info is obviously going to be more valuable to your site.
Ensure your incoming links are from credible sites with relevant content/articles. We don't spend too much time doing this but should!

Absolutely correct. The only thing I'd add to this is that provided the links make sense, don't disregard them just because they carry less strength; less strength is better than the 0 strength you get from not adding the link!
As long as it's being done in moderation, it's not really going to be a danger either. If a large portion of your site is made up of links from the same IP though, this is going to raise some red flags that maybe you're running a PBN. Just down form sketchy looking patterns and you'll be just fine.

Google takes into account that the two sites are related. Receiving a link to your site is receiving a vote in Google's eyes. Hence, if the two sites are related, the vote holds less weight than a link from a separate domain. Think of it like a baker voting for their own bread at a cooking competition. The judge (in this case Google) will take the relationship into account.
So yes, it does make a significant difference. I think less juice is passed, but I am unsure on this, Google may have some other way of discounting the link. None the less, the link still holds value. Hope this helps.

Entire website is duplicated on 2 domains - what to do?
My client's website has 1000+ pages and a Domain Authority of 23. I have just discovered that the entire site is duplicated on a second domain (main URL = companyname.com - duplicate site URL = company-name.com). The home page of the duplicate domain has a 301 redirect going to the main domain. However, none of the 1000+ other pages have any redirect set up, so Google is indexing the entire duplicate site. I'm assuming this is a bad thing for SEO. Duplicate site has a domain Authority of 4, so I'd like to transfer whatever link juice it has, towards the main site. What's the best thing to do? Ultimately I think it would be best to delete the duplicate site. So would it be a case of adding a redirect to the htaccess file along the lines of: redirect company-name.com/?slug? to https://companyname.com/?slug? (I realise this isn't the correct syntax - but is the concept correct?) Has anyone ever dealt with this successfully?

URL Structure On Site - Currently it's domain/product-name NOT domain/category/product name is this bad?
I have a eCommerce site and the site structure is domain/product-name rather than domain/product-category/product-name Do you think this will have a negative impact SEO Wise? I have seen that some of my individual product pages do get better rankings than my categories.

Domain change recommendations
We recently migrated one of our websites to a new domain. Obviously we were expecting a decrease in traffic initially, but it has actually gone down by 70% week-over-week since we made the switch. We set up a 301 redirect from the old domain to the new domain, changed all internal links to the new domain and changed all inbound links that we owned to the new domain. Our research suggested the best way to approach a domain change was by keeping it simple and not making too many changes at once. So my questions are: 1. Are these the kinds of results we should expect initially after a domain change? And if not, 2. What are the steps we should take from here? Thanks!

I have a blog on a sub domain, would you move it to the rood domain in a directory?
I have a blog that preforms fairly well on a sub domain, but after reading a post that Rand made to the Q & A I am thinking about moving it to the main domain in a sub directory. What are your thoughts on this? Here are some stats on it. The blog currently gets about 5 x the traffic of the main domain. The domain is older, 2008 creation date. They pretty much register for the same keywords.

Domains and Hosting Question
I bought hosting for unlimited domains on Godaddy. It's not a dedicated server. It was just $85 a year. I have unlimited latency but a limited amount of "space." I don't know a lot about hosting servers etc... My question is relatively simple. When I go in GoDaddy to my hosting. There is a site that shows up as hosted, and all of the other sites show up under that site in it's directory. If you type the name of the site I bought the hosted package on, then type a forward slash and the name of one of the other sites on the hosting package, you will actually go to the other website. What is this relationship? Is it normal? Does that make all of my websites subdomains of the main site (that I bought the hosting package on)? I don't fully comprehend how this effects everything...

Preferred domain registrar AU
I need to register a domain in Australia. Does anybody have a trusted domain registrar I can go to? The person in our Australian office gave me a list of registrars she found where she can purchase the domain, but I wanted to see if anyone here had recommendations.

301 for old domain to new domain - Joomla plugin or cpanel?
A client changed domains and both are being indexed. There are thousands of content pages. I can install a 301 redirect Joomla plugin and configure it so that each page redirects to the new domain. I have a feeling I will need to manual set every page. OR I can create a domain level redirect setting in cpanel using wildcards. I think this will automatically pass every old URL to the new URL. Which is the better approach? The cpanel option sounds like less work.

Help with domain redirect advice please!
I run the website http://buildyourjacket.com. We have other domains as well, most importantly www.buildyourjacket.com and cvcsports.com. If you Google "letterman jackets" (our primary search term) cvcsports.com shows up as the first result (yay!). But that is not what we want. Until a few weeks ago, Google would show http://buildyourjacket.com as the domain for the first search result from "letterman jackets". But then a few weeks that changed. I don't know how that could have happened. There are two reasons why we want the domain http://buildyourjacket.com to be the one that shows up: 1) It's a better sounding/looking domain and 2) When it was showing up, Google also showed right below the domain another link of our that said "Build Your Own Jacket" which definitely helped us get more clicks. Can someone please help me and tell me what I should do? Thank you so much.
