Selling on eBay and Amazon, does it have a negative impact our your website?
-
_We sell on multiple platforms I.e own website, eBay, Amazon and have noticed over the last few years to hold a page 1 ranking on Google is becoming more and more difficult as the SERPs are saturated with the big brands. _
My question is, we've loaded all of our products and there lovely unique descriptions to eBay and Amazon, is there any chance that this content is helping eBay and Amazon rank (may be not by much!), but certainly not doing us any favours. As effectively why would you show our site in the search results for a product range, when all of the content/products already appear on eBay/Amazon which is several SERPs places higher?
Is Google not inclined to think, "hey no need to show x site, as the content is already features on Amazon, why show it twice?"
Any one have any thoughts?

It looks like you noted that all the product descriptions have been rewritten to be unique, so I don't really see a huge issue with this. I guess the better question to ask you is if the amazon/ebay pages you control are ranking, and if so are you getting sales out of them? I know everyone wants their native website to rank, but if you're selling products then the real KPI you need to be worried about is sales. If the amazon and ebay pages are getting you sales, then I would make it part of the strategy to keep those ranking above competitors.
"As effectively why would you show our site in the search results for a product range, when all of the content/products already appear on eBay/Amazon which is several SERPs places higher?"
That's a great question... what can your site provide users they may not be able to find on Amazon/eBay? Do you have more information about the product, buying guides, use cases, great stories about how other people have used the product (since I really don't know what you're selling), or other useful content? My take is that you need to provide a good reason for someone to visit your site, so don't fight Amazon if you're using it to sell. Ranking well doesn't keep your business in the black, sales do. Utilize Amazon and eBay as part of the marketing/sales strategy to push the competition out of the SERPs (1st page), and use the website to provide a unique experience which caters to your brand.
"Is Google not inclined to think, "hey no need to show x site, as the content is already features on Amazon, why show it twice?"
I would think that too if the content is the same or if the experience is the same. The question really is WHY should I visit your site? What can you offer me on your native site that I can't find from visiting your Amazon page? Amazon is a very trustworthy site, so If I'm going to buy something it might make sense for me to purchase there (especially if I can use Prime).

Having your content duplicated on other sites is never going to be too healthy, and is likely affecting your ranking. High DA sites like amazon and ebay will be regularly crawled meaning your content will be recognised more on those sites.
Good solution would be to write different descriptions for use on sites other than your own. Time consuming but worth it in the long run.

# of links and how it impacts ranking
Hi everyone I was running a competitor analysis in Moz Pro of my site and 3 competitors that are ranked above me. One of the things I noticed is that my # of total links is very high compared to 2 of my competitors(please see attachment). Other seo tools are telling me the same. This is mainly due to a few affiliate sites that have us in their footer. I was wondering if this could impact our ranking if some of these sites have very low domain authority and have thousands of backlinks to our site? I am looking into starting the disavowing process. How can I track relevant websites my visitors are viewing?
I'm wanting to build a in-depth profile for my company's typical site visitor and I was wondering if there is anyway to view other websites that visitors are searching for online to get an idea of their hobbies/interests and how they spend their free time. I'm not sure if I'm asking the right questions in Google because the results are very broad and are more about reading analytics for your own company. Can anyone point me to a website or software that allows for this sort of thing?

Thoughts on Nofollow My Account / Shopping Cart Pages on an eCommerce Website
I recently noticed most of my competitors (eCommerce sites) have linked to pages within their sites that do not always contain product information (my account, shopping cart, etc) using rel="nofollow". My site does not currently do this. Are there any advantages to using rel="nofollow" on similar pages on our site? Any disadvantages?

Creating Free Website Accounts (Weebly, Wix, Wordpress.com, etc) for Linking Purposes?
Greetings Mozzers, I came a cross several sites and when looking at their link profile I found they had several links from these free services to gain links. Obviously duplicate content is bad, but if all the content on each one was completely unique, would these links be of quality? Let's say, 1 link per site that is external to your site. I know it's a tricky topic but just wanted thoughts, would the above be a potentially beneficial method for gaining a simple quality link. Your advice and information is much appreciated!

50,000 Links From The Same Website
Hey Mozers, I was conducting competitive research for a client of mine and I discovered one of their competitors has over 50,000 backlinks! After removing my heart from my stomach I realized that 99.9% of the links came from a single website that doesn't have nearly that many pages. Has anyone experienced this in the past? And if so what exactly is going on? C
