Google sidebar advertising dropped
-
Has anyone noticed how the google sidebar advertising has completely disappeared? They only display top 4 adwords and then remaining on the bottom of each search page. I can't find any info on it or when it actually happened?
-
haha! That's uncanny timing!!! Yes Chris. You heard it here first Thanks for the update.
-
Sarah, I hope you're going to take credit for spotting this first
it's official ...
-
I seen your video Yosepgr... Interesting comments and I also have similar thoughts re the adwords. For me, it's happening on different browsers AND even when signed out. I very rarely see the side rail ads atm.
-
I see the same thing, in one account they will show ads on the right side, on the other one they will not.
-
Haha! It's actually driving me crazy (the curiosity). It just looks on all my browsers like desktop side rail ads are banished. Such a puzzle. Ah well... Google does what google wants at the end of the day.
I did read the article Kristen shared and some other interesting older articles discussing similar queries. It's funny too that with the 4 ads along the top, the top organic searches above the fold are getting less and less exposure.
-
Don't you just love Google! Â I've just been messing about with it and you're right.
Same search term logged into one account and no sidebar, logout and it's back. Â Then sign back in with a different G account and it's still there.
Then do the same routine using a VPN from a different location and the sidebar is consistently there.
Glad it's not my job to make sense of all this

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Chris I've tried it on different browsers (both signed in and signed out) and with different keywords. I'm finding it does it with some keywords but not others... Interesting. I was wondering if they were considering phasing out sidebar ads perhaps altogther...
Kristen I will read that article now thank you. I agree with you about the freeing up of the right hand space in regards to the Knowledge Graph results. If I'm searching for something in particular, like a company or person, I see more and more that the knowledge graph results appears nicely on the right. I'm going to look into this further.
-
Worth pointing out that if you log out of G then the sidebar reappears.
-
I've seen this a few times, but mostly when I've been doing multiple quick searches around the same or similar keyword combinations (i.e. working on a client's campaign). Â I'd put it down to either testing or Adwords restricting the display where it looks like it's not a "genuine" search pattern.
Does not look like it's widespread or permanent. Â But who knows!

How long does Google indexes the website after algorithm update?
I've noticed that the page ranks for some queries were improved unexpectedly, without any actions from my side. Is it possible that this improvement is connected with with Google algorithm update Sep, 4-5?

Using Google to find a discontinued product.
Hi Guys. I mostly use this forum for business questions, but now it's a personal one! I'm trying to find a supplier that might still have discontinued product.  It's the Behritone C5A speaker monitor. All my searches bring up a plethora of pages that appear to sell the product... but they have no stock. (Wouldn't removing these pages make for a better internet?)  No 2nd hand ones on eBay đ Do you have any suggestion about how I can get more relevant results... i.e find supplier that might still have stock?  Any tips or trick I may be able to use to help me with this? Many thanks in advance to an awesome community đ Isaac.

Removing an old Google places listing for a newer version?
Hey there, I was wondering whether you could help me out on the following; One of our clients has a Google places listing that we created for their business but it appears to be being blocked - or at least conflicting - with an old listing. As such, Google appears to be showing the old listing with an outdated URL and company name - rather than the new one. Does anyone know how I can go about removing this listing or showing that the newer one is now more relevant? Unfortunately, I don't have the logins for the old places listing. De-indexed homepage in Google - very confusing.
A website I provide content for has just suffered a de-indexed homepage in Google (not in any of the other search engines) - all the other pages remained indexed as usual. Client asked me what might be the problem and I just couldn't figure it out - no linkbuilding has ever been carried out so clean backlink profile, etc. I just resubmitted it and it's back in its usual place, and has maintained the rankings (and PR) it had before it disappeared a few days ago. I checked WMT and no warnings or issues there. Any idea why this might've happened?

Google Update on the 6th July
Hi Mozzers, Has anyone noticed a Google update on the 6th July? A price comparison site I optimise has fallen off the SERPs for most generic terms, however still getting traffic for longer tail phrases. Cheers Aran
