Google Direct Answers Box - available in other languages aside from English?
-
Hi guys,
Last year I wrote a post for the YouMoz blog (https://moz.com/ugc/google-s-direct-answers-how-to-keep-visitors-coming-to-your-site) about Google's Direct Answers box.
Needless to say, I focused purely on English language queries but I'm curious to know if anyone has seen the box appear for queries in other languages.
If you've seen this happening and could provide some examples, then please let me know!
Thanks in advance!
Daniel

Hi Kady,
I did tweet about this and Aleyda and Gianluca were both kind enough to reply. It does seem that at present, it's not as widespread in other languages as in English, but it's also interesting to note that it seems to be less common for Italian queries vs Spanish.
The example from Gianluca was "que es una meta description" which on Google.es displays a Direct Answer. In Italian I tried "cos'Ăš una meta description" but no Direct Answer was given, just regular search results.
Maybe it's because in Italian for example, there's no equivalent article which explains what a meta description is which meets all of Google's requirements for displaying a Direct Answer... but that does seem unlikely!

Hi Daniel, curious if you were able to gather any more insight? I've done quite a bit of searching, with no success. Thanks!

Thanks Dr. Pete! I guess there's still some more to find out about how much it's been rolled out in other languages. Thinking of reaching out to Aleyda and Gianluca Fiorelli to see if they have any additional insight.

So, Gary Illyes is telling me that Featured Snippets are available in 10 other locales beside the US, but I'm not sure which languages, and I can't actually find any examples. Does that help?
I can find some non-English terms that show them, such as "ayurveda" and "hajj", but they're English answers on Google.com. They seem to disappear when I switch to the origin languages.

Internal pages ranking over the homepage: How to optimise to rank better at Google?
Hi, We have experienced a shift in SERP from internal pages ranking over website homepage for more than a year. Previously website homepages used to rank for the primary keyword like moz.com for "SEO". Now we can see that internal pages like moz.com/learn/seo/what-is-seo been ranking for the primary keyword "SEO". Google is picking up these "what is ABC" pages than the homepage. All our competitor sites are ranking with these internal pages which are about "what is (primary keyword)". We do have the same internal pages "what is....", but this pages is not ranking; only our homepage is ranking. Moreover we dropped more than 15 positions after this shift in SERP. How to diagnose this? Thanks

New Google Update - weird ranking
Hi I wanted to get your thoughts on this keyword ranking. This page - https://www.key.co.uk/en/key/albatross-heavy-duty-office-chairs-24-stone is now ranking for heavy duty office chair 30 stone We don't mention 30 in the content anywhere, apart from the USPs at the top of the page - could this be it?! I don't know how to change this, or I guess Google is still figuring things out and maybe this will drop off? Love to get some thoughts on this! Becky

Are we confusing Google with our internal linking?
Hi all, We decided to give importance to one of our top pages as it has "keyword" in it's slug like website.com/keyword. So we internally linked even from different sub-domain pages more than homepage to rank for that "keyword". But this page didn't show up in Google results for that "keyword"; neither homepage, but our login page is ranking. We wonder why login page is ranking. Has our internal linking plan confused Google to ignore homepage to rank for that primary keyword? And generally do we need to internally link homepage more than anyother page? Thanks

Nursery franchise UAE Â Â Â Â Â Page 1
Nursery franchise UK Â Â Â Â Â Â Nowhere to be found! The page in question (well a section of the site) has been optimised for UK, however, as they do have a sister site in the UAE, it mentions those areas too. The pages I have been working on are now ranking reasonably well to say there is a long way to go, but for long tailed keywords NOT including anything to do with the UK. There are no naughty backlinks with the anchor text to do with the UK, the server is hosted in the UK, it is a .co.uk URL (no geotagging but I would like to know if this is of any use with this type of URL, everything says no, but it cant harm can it?) - is it possible Google due to bad practices in the past have slapped a penalty on the specific keyword area? Not something I have come across previously but I am scratching my head over here! Time for a brew break đ Thanks in advance guys! Leanne1 -
Is there a direct correlation between google places and organic listing ?
Basically, I have examined several examples that the sites which are included in Google places are not listed in organic results in page 1. For example, If my site is listed in google places. is it going to affect my ranking for the same keyword?.

Google webmaster tool content keywords Top URLs
GWT->Optimization->Content Keywords section... If we click on the keyword it will further shows the variants and Top URLs containing those variants. My problem is none of the important pages like product details pages, homepage or category pages are present in that Top URLs list. All the news, guides section url's are listed in the Top URLs section for most important keyword that is also present in my domain name. How to make google realize the important pages for the important keyword?

Why would my product pages no longer be indexed in Google?
Our UK site has 72 pages in our sitemap. 30 of them are product pages which take a productid  parameter. Prior to 1st Feb 2011, all pages were indexed in Google but since then all of our product pages seem to have dropped from the index? If I check in webmaster tools, I can see that we have submitted 72 pages and 42 are indexed. I realise we should have some better url structuring and I'm working on that but do you have any  ideas on how we can get our product poages back into googles index http://www.ebacdirect.com
