Can a single business list multiple locations that are home-based? Will Google find this acceptable?
More details. The business is a service based business that operates in two states. The owner has one approved Google My Business listing for her main location - her home in DE. She also has employees and stores supplies at her in-law's home in PA. Separate phone numbers are used for each business location.
We have tried to create a Google My Business listing for the PA location and it has been rejected for quality reasons. We've asked clarification and received none. Is this worth pursing further or does it violate Google guidelines?

Thanks for taking the time to answer. You have checked off all of the obvious reasons that I can think of for rejection. It sounds like the business is doing everything as one would advise and the fact that these locations are in 2 different states cannot lead us to suspect that Google is sensing a spamming of the SAME service area. My best suggestion here would be to phone Google and see if they can offer you any further explanation. If that doesn't work, you might want to hire somebody like Joy Hawkins at Imprezzio as she is a real detective when it comes to odd problems like this, and she is also either a TC or an RER and might have access to more information about this than the average Local SEO. I think this thread has helped clear away common problems, leaving us with the conclusion that there might be something about this scenario that is uncommon.

Let me answer your questions.
- It's a pet waste removal business.
- There are separate addresses, phone numbers, and service areas spanning two different geographies.
- Google My Business and + profiles are customized to each location and point to separate, locally-optimized pages on the website. They're tagged as service area businesses with real addresses (not PO Boxes) hidden.
- Phone calls are answered professionally. "Thanks for calling Business Name".
- Customers are served at their location. They do not come to the business.
- Citations exist for each location - between 60 and 85. We're about to initiate an effort to acquire more.
Thank you all for taking the time to contribute to this discussion. It's appreciated. I wish there was an obvious answer but, as Robert rightly points out, Local is complicated. I guess the quality issue isn't obvious.

Google should look very favorably on home-based businesses. Didn't they start in a friend's garage? They didn't even own it.
Some home-based businesses bring in millions of visitors per month to their websites and make buckets and buckets of money.
These propeller heads need to dump that big brand attitude. It isn't your location that's important, it's more about your velocity and trajectory.

This is a very good question. Google does not have an official guideline on this, but I would make a best guess that a string of homes being promoted as business locations could be something they would look for as a red flag. Now, given that this is just one other location, I'm not 100% confident that this is the cause of the rejection of the PA listing, but it might be. Some thoughts surrounding this:
-Are customers coming to the home in PA to do business?
-Are employees going from the home in PA to customers locations to serve them? If so, are they serving a completely different service area than the DE business? And, when trying to create the GMB listing, did they hide the address and set a service area or did they try to have a visible address?
-Who answers the phone at the PA location? Do they say, "Good Morning! Company Name. How can I help you?" or do they say, "Hello?" like a resident rather than a business? Could Google have called the business and gotten the latter greeting rather than the former?
-Does the PA location list a distinct phone number from the DE one, or did the owner try to list the DE phone for the PA business?
End of the day, there isn't a guideline on this, but there might be some details to the case that could lead to possibly being able to convince Google that the PA location deserves a listing. Might be. A rejection can be hard to overcome.

Unfortunately most likely you won't get an official response from Google on this. It may come down to the type of business it is, and maybe even the website that you link to. If you were to have a website and list both locations (or both areas that you serve), such as domain.accountant/city1 and domain.accountant/city2 and each local listing links to the appropriate page, you may have a better chance of getting your business listed.
Also, rather than focus specifically on Google, you may want to focus on getting more local citations and listings for both locations. That may help you in the future, you may want to hold off on the Google listing until you have more links and listings elsewhere.

Example:
Cleaning business in Delaware and employees in PA as well. One of employees operates out of home and has business phone there and keeps the supplies there.From this I don't see a problem, but to diagnose the "quality" issue we need more info. If you do not make contact with customers during stated hours, if you are an ecommerce operation in the minds of Google, etc. would all be issues and there are more. If you are using just the phone number but trying to use a PO box or the main address it is problematic. Are you a service area business and you are trying to set things up where address shows when you should not be, etc.
Local is not as simple as it could be so more info would help.
Hopefully, this gives you at least a starting place.

Disconnect MOZ Local and Google My Business
I've had problems with one of our eight branch locations when I connected GMB to Moz Local about a year ago. The location was suspended for being a duplicate. I would like to sever the connection so I could keep Moz Local live but at least temporarily delete the suspended Google My Business. Google My Business: Company listing is showing in search instead of division address - similar names/same city
Hi! I have a client whose company name is very similar to one if their company divisions. This division has multiple locations but its main location is in the same city as the parent company. The problem is that when you search for the division, the parent company shows up. The parent company has a physical address, but most users searching need to be going to the division address which takes customers. They are having problems with customers coming to the parent company address instead. I have made the Google My Business parent company page to show service areas instead of their business address. Yet, their listing still comes up first when searching for the division location. This is because of part of the parent company name is in the division name. My client wants users to be able to find the division more so than the parent company. Anyone had this issue before? Any tips would be great!

Google My Business pages for New Construction Communities
I have a number of builders of new homes as clients. Typically, they build out a whole neighborhood at once and give the neighborhood a fancy name. We were planning to create Google My Business pages for these communities but then ran into some potential challenges. As new communities, they are sometimes not on Google's radar yet Some of them have model homes where you might take a tour with a realtor that serves the community exclusively but many don't. So here come the questions... Is there a way to make Google speed up its process of recognizing new addresses? I have to choose an address to associate with the GMB page, probably the address of model home. Is this going to create annoying problems for a buyer who someday buys that model home? Since some communities don't have a model home, I could arbitrarily assign an address of one of the neighborhood homes to the GMB page, but this leads to the same question about creating a GMB page that will exist after the builder has sold all the houses in the community. Will it be weird to have the GMB referring to someone's private residence down the road? My assumption is that claiming a GMB page would help with local ranking if someone searches for something like "new homes" in addition to providing easy driving directions to someone who has done a bit of research and Googles the name of the new home community while out driving and searching for homes. These seem to be the main benefits, but are the challenges associated with questions 1-3 even worth the trouble of trying to claim listings for these communities?

Google Business listing algorithm when listing the top 3 locations in Google Search
Hi, awhile back I decided to make separate website contact pages by location and Google Business listings(some being just a service location with no address displaying) for Greenshield Pest Control Inc to help better target per city key term searches. Please refer to screenshot A http://puu.sh/qxWjH/6153c0edf2.png and B http://puu.sh/qxWfJ/bff7ad02cf.png. A) Searching "pest control belleville" brings up the Belleville Greenshield business listing in the top 3 as desired. B) Searching "pest control brockville" brings up the Kingston Greenshield listing in the top 3. While they do provide service for the Brockville location we don't have a dedicated Brockville service location and listing setup. I'm happy the Greenshield listing shows up in the search for case B but my question is does anyone know why Google decided for two out of the top 3 listings(Greenshield and Enviro Guard Plus Inc) to use a non-Brockville business listing? Kingston is 45mins away from Brockville and Harrowsmith about 1 hour away. Is there a certain distance range a Google business listing has to be for it to have a chance to be included in the search besides the actual city I'm searching for?

Location in business name for listings
A while back, I changed 26 of our business listings on Google so that the business name included the city, for example: "Business Name Sheffield", "Business Name York", "Business Name Doncaster". It looked consistent, it was easier to read in Google Maps when searching for Eden Mobility and even better - it may have been the cause of positive impacts in our local rankings. Using the Moz Local tool, I'm now looking at rolling out this change out throughout ALL of our business listings on the web, including Factual, Yelp etc etc... Does anybody have thoughts on this? At the back of my mind I can't help but think that I should be consistently using ONLY the business name throughout all of my online business listings. Will Google consider each of these locations as separate business entities? Here's something I found in Google's guidelines: Adding unnecessary information to your name (e.g. "Google Inc. – Mountain View Corporate Headquarters" instead of "Google") by including marketing taglines, shop codes, special characters, hours or closed/open status, phone numbers, website URLs, service/product information, location/address or directions or containment information (e.g. "Chase ATM in Duane Reade") is not permitted. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I've seen some big businesses such as ASDA doing the same thing I'm doing - but I'm undecided!

Google Places for Business was removed after 6 months
Hello Everyone, After 6 Months, Google has removed us from Google Places for Business and Maps. We did everything properly and we where serving on the 3rd position. Now it seems that the listing is back in Pending? 1. Does anybody have any suggestions how to proceed or how to handle this?
