OSE seems to be less and less accurate
-
Howdy folks,
Into our 3rd year of using MOZ and OSE and well not sure about you guys but I think OSE is reporting less and less accurately. Has anyone seen a drop in it's accuracy or ability to delivery what it claims to?
I know many of you also use AHREFS and others but why not get this tool right MOZ?

Looking forward to seeing those changes and improvements Rand

Radi - I hear you, dude. OSE's backend index, Mozscape, hasn't kept up as well as I'd like with being able to process as much of the web's links and pages that we need to get a comprehensive picture. I think that's why a lot of folks also use Ahrefs and Majestic to bolster their link data. Mozscape is good at a few things those others aren't - Page Authority and Domain Authority are quite good (very well correlated with Google's rankings), Spam Score is a very useful metric, and OSE has a lot of metrics like MozRank and MozTrust that you can't get elsewhere.
But, the downside is that calculating those metrics is a hugely computationally expensive process. Every few weeks, Mozscape takes all the links and URLs it's seen the last 90 days and starts a processing run that takes 20-30 days. When it finishes, we get a new index. We can't overfill that system with too much data, or it breaks
What we need is more resilient, real-time system that can scale with hardware, and that's what the team's been working on.
In the months ahead, you should see Mozscape improve (particularly for US and English-language links and websites), and around the end of the year or beginning of 2017, we expect to have a system that can process large numbers of links in real time.
Apologies that our tech hasn't kept up with the needs on this. Despite a huge investment over many years, we've not yet been able to launch what's needed, but we're relentless and we'll keep at it until we get there. We know it's too important to give up on.

How long have you been using it Scott?

OSE Backlink results - reported link not actually there?
Not a complaint, but a question to understand how the research tool operates: When I run backlink checks on websites, often the reported link is not only not on the page, but it's not found anywhere on the site. I use several tools to search for the link url as well as for the keyword. Why does the tool report a link is there, but I cannot find the links in some cases? Is there a lag in the information the tool is using, making it not quite up to date, or is it something else? Thanks much!

Press Release - using moz bar/OSE is reading domain not page? How? Why?
A question posed by Christopher Glaeser from early today:low PA high DA, had a follow up response from him providing 2 urls from PR WEB for separate press releases: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2011/11/prweb8923419.htm (HP White) On moz bar Page Analysis/Link Data = PA - 47 DA - 36 http://www.prweb.com/releases/2011/12/prweb9051351.htm (Golfer's Advice) On moz bar Page Analysis/Link Data = PA - 1 DA - 96 I kept scratching my head as to how a press release of 6 weeks ago had garnered such attention from a company that would not seem to have a huge traffic due to more obscure product offering and scientific subject (Analyses of Armor Industry versus Golf Advice).

Then I realized that for HP White, Link Data was not about the PR. The url from mozbar was HPWhite.com not the above, I did not notice until I used OSE where same thing was happening. When I cut and pasted the above press release url for HP White and placed it in OSE this changed: PA - 49 DA - 96 (2 links 2 linking root domains) For Golfers advice (0 links from 0 linking domains) Note to all: the links to the PR WEB release for the HP included a low end directory type link and a link from PR WEB (. For Golfer's Advice there was not a link back to the release from PR WEB: Note that Golfer's Advice is a newer release (6 weeks). So, any link from HPWhite release would equal more juice to HP White and PR Web and Vocus. Any link to Golfer's Advice from release offers......???? to Golfer's Advice and who cares to Vocus and PR Web. So, I guess this begs a couple of questions: Why the mozbar link analysis difference for one versus the other? Does PR Web treat some differently than others? Who benefits most from me paying a PR Web to do press releases for a client, PR Web and Vocus or my client and I???? I have tried to order the images to make sense: L to R top, then bottom is last. Is the SEOMoz Rank Tracker still accurate?
I monitor several keywords on several domains and i have found that rank tracker gives me one result yet when searching via Google myself (on different machines) i get a different result. I've tried several devices on different networks so there is no chance that Google is remembering my searches as such and i ensure that i am always signed out of my account. All devices provide the same results yet Rank Tracker provides a completely different result. It's as though Rank Tracker is a day ahead or something. Can anyone shed any light for me please?

What is the quickest way to get OSE data for many URLs all at once?
I have over 400 URLs in a spreadsheet and I would like to get Open Site Explorer data (domain/page authority/trust etc) for each URL. Would I use the Linkscape API to do this quickly (ie not manually entering every single site into OSE)? Or is there something in OSE or a tool I am overlooking? And whatever the best process is, can you give a brief overview? Thanks!! -Dan

Trying to boost Backlinks but OSE still shows same figures for past month
I often check Open site explorer to see if I increased in linking root domains to my site after getting some backlinks on it. I have a concern about the number it is displaying: How does this statistic get updated? If I spread backlinks on some sites do i have to do anything else like ping it so google can crawl it so OSE sees it and counts it towards my linking root domain statistic? Is this current figure OSE is reading from cache and giving me an outdated number? NNzAn.jpg

Looking for a tool that can pull OSE stats for a bulk amount of URLs
I know that people have developed inhouse tools with the OSE API that can analyze thousands of URLs and pull metrics like PA, inbound links, etc. I need to analyze about 80k URLs and sort them by authority and I was hoping that someone could point me to a tool that can do this or let me use their tool. I'm willing to pay for access to it. We could build it inhouse, I imagine that it would be pretty easy, but our IT resources are stretched too thin right now.

Historical Linkscape/OSE data available?
Hey Mozzerati, I'm curious if there's a way to expose and analyze historical data from each previous Linkscape/OpenSiteExplorer (OSE) update. Essentially, I'm looking for something similar to MajesticSEO's Backlink History tool that can show you both daily links over a short time as well as cumulative links over a long period. I think the utility of such a tool is to see which competitors have gained many links over a short period, signalling that they're engaging in some form of link-building/-buying/-baiting activity. Is there any way to yield this data (other than to record it manually after each Linkscape/OSE update) from SEOmoz PRO tools?
