Executive Office
-
Hello, I've been reading about all the chatter about how using a virtual office or even an executive office would hurt local search because it is a shared address. I just want to make sure that virtual office or executive offices are not allowed by google.
The guidelines do not mention virtual or executive offices as being prohibited. They say don't use a location where you don't meet clients.
There are different grades or ways of using virtual offices.
1. List a bunch of virtual office even though you can't man those many offices. You are a one man shop but have 20 listings. Obviously, you don't have a physical location at each of the 20 offices. This is a clear violation.
2. Mailbox rentals such as at a UPS store. This is a clear violation.
3. PO Boxes. This is a clear violation.
4. You have an executive office or a virtual office. You see customers there. The virtual office has a receptionist receive clients and take calls. Every SEO says that this is a violation and an instance waiting for a penalty.
Does anyone have an example of example number 4 being penalized? Or, is everyone just rehashing what someone else has said.
Examples of penalties would be great so that we can see what does and doesn't work. I've seen examples online for situations 1-3 but not 4.

So glad if the links were helpful, James

Hey James!
Good for you for doing your research and questioning stated best practices. It never hurts to ask! You are not going to find many examples of actual businesses that have been penalized for use of virtual offices because:
A) The business owner is hardly likely to advertise the fact that he was taken down for guidelines violations
B) Most SEOs don't consider it ethical to call out spammers by name. That being said, this is a good thread on this topic at Linda Buquet's forum about an attorney (unidentified) being caught for spam: http://www.localsearchforum.com/google-local-important/26844-busted-warning-attorneys-regus-non-compliant-offices.html. While I believe that instance related to a combination of fake locations and UPS store addresses, the thing to pay attention to is how easily the spammer was caught. TCs and RERs can act very quickly in escalating something like this when reported. I also recommend http://www.localsearchforum.com/google-local/38965-virtual-office-question-issues.html and http://www.localsearchforum.com/local-search/37981-personal-injury-lawyer-wants-rank-tons-cities.html
If you know a business is operating out of a virtual office with a shared receptionist, then it's the Google forum folks (some of whom are speaking in the above threads) who would be determining your fate should your competitor report their suspicions about your GMB listing to them. It's pretty clear that your listing would fall under the close scrutiny of TCs and RERs who really do not go easy on guidelines violation reports to Google.

Virtual office alternatives?
I manage a custom apparel and promotional product distributor website. It provides products and services entirely online, and does not serve at any physical location. I am aware that setting up virtual offices to rank locally in cities is against Google guidelines. Other than ranking organically as a normal search result, are there any alternatives to virtual offices which may be more efficient and risk free?

Best Approach for GMB/Local Optimization for Central Office with Multiple Locations
Hello, Our site is designed to place people in different locations or houses. We have six locations total; each one has its own name, physical address and landing page. We also have a central office for the brand with its own NAP. All addresses fall under the guidelines of Google My Business (i.e. people visit each location and our office...etc.). Unless it’s ideal, we most likely wouldn’t be running a full-scale local campaign for each location due to restrictions on resources and wouldn’t want to spread ourselves too thin. Our question is; would it be best to set up a GMB listing for each location including our central office, only use the central office or just the 6 locations? – We know multiple locations is not an issue for GMB but we weren’t sure if that’s the ideal way to approach it in this case. Essentially, would it be better to focus on our central office for GMB/local efforts and just make sure that our other location landing pages are the highest quality possible or better to use GMB for every location (including the main office) and over time start local work on all of the above. Also, if we do only use just the central office; should we be avoiding listing the other addresses on each landing page to avoid confusing Google as to where we are located? Any help or insight on how to approach this would be very much appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from all of you! Thank you. Best,

Google Business Listing with no physical office location
Hey, everyone! As a business owner who works from home and doesn't have a physical office location. Is setting up a Google business listing without location going to hurt my local search ranking? Should I get a virtual office so I have a physical location? Thank you!! 😃

GMB best practice for chiropractic office (individual vs. business pages)
For a chiropractic or other doctor's office with multiple doctors, should each have their own personal Google My Business page page AND a business page for the practice? If they just have a business page now, is it worth creating a page for each of the individual doctors? And what if some of them have different focuses (like a acupuncturist and chiropractor), does that mean you should make individual doctor pages when you otherwise wouldn't bother? And IF we should create pages for the individual doctors, should they all have the same address and website since they work in the same practice. Curious if there is a best practice for this... has anyone seen positive or negative results with or without the individual doctor pages? Thanks!

How to get Google to choose office location pages and not the homepage. Tips and Suggestions?
Hello Mozzers The issue I have is a client with a number of office locations (six) across the south of England and they want each to rank well for each location + the qualifier solicitors. IE Brighton Solicitors. Work has been undertaken on the office location pages to include the services offered from each location, full postcodes and phone numbers. These location pages are linked to from the footer of the website so have good internal links. The site has a DA of 49 and the office location pages have a PA of 33. Google in its wisdom keeps ranking the home pages for the searches. The result is that the site ranks well in one location (London) but poorly in all the majority of others (2nd,3rd and 4th page). Were it does pick up/choose the location page the rankings are better than the homepage. The other locations are less competitive than London according to the Keyword difficulty tool. Any tips on to suggest to Google that it should rank the office location pages and not the homepage for each location? Thanks in advance 🙂

Best practice for local SEO when two offices handle different services?
Our agency has three main services - SEO, PPC and web design. We're in the process of setting up a new office in a different city where our PPC team will be based, while SEO and web will stay in the original office. How do we handle local SEO/Google My Business listings in this situation? Geo-targeted service pages and two separate GMB listings?

Citations for multiple practicioners in an office (real estate, dentists, etc)- Best Practices
We're just about to breakout our citations as we've added listings for a few real estate offices and dental offices for the individual real estate agents/dentists. I didn't see any discussions on best practices, so I thought I'd start the discussion (please point me elsewhere if I missed it) 1. Is it even a good idea to build citations for a practitioner in an office (Dr. Who, Dentist, in addition to Whoville Dental Office)? 2. Name will be different, address will be the same, but what about phone #? Should they use the office phone # and their extension? Or a separate (cell) #? 3. Website citation: Should it go to their "profile" page on the website? Or home page? Thanks in advance for any input 🙂
