Redirect question
-
Hi Everyone
I've tried searching elsewhere in these forums for an answer to this but not having much luck - hope I'm not duplicating content!
I get this message in Moz:
"We have detected that the domain NappyValleyNet.com redirects to www.nappyvalleynet.com.
We do not recommend tracking a redirect URL. Would you like to track www.nappyvalleynet.com for this campaign instead?"
Is this a set-up issue on my side? I'm not sure what this means?
Thank you!

Thanks Dan, really appreciate the great answer (and Moz did too!)
Have great day!

Hi - it's nothing to worry about, as Thomas said.
All it means is that anyone going to nappyvalley.net is correctly redirected to the www. version. That's right, as you always want to pick one version of the url as the canonical version, and redirect the others to it.
And when you set up in Moz, you tried to track the non-www. version which is being redirected. Just select the www. version and it'll all work fine.

It looks like you're trying to track http://nappyvalleynet.com instead of http://www.nappyvalleynet.com/
You have a redirect from the http:// version to http://www version, so wherever you are entering nappyvalleynet.com enter http://www.nappyvalleynet.com instead.

In one of the previous opened discussions the solution given was: you'd update the server level rule to point directly to the end URL form.
Re: 301 Redirect chain Are there any tutorials or resources available to help me properly implement this solution and resolve this issue? Tags: 301 Redirects, HTTPS, WWW, Server Level Rule, Redirect Chain Any tutorials how to do it properly to resolve this issue ?0 -
Page Hierarchy Question
I understand the basic concept of page hierarchy, i.e. parent and child pages. My question is: Should the home page be the parent of all 2nd-level pages? Can/should there only be one top-level page, the home page? In other words, is this: site.com/homesite.com/home/products site.com/home/products/widgetsite.com/home/aboutsite.com/home/contactbetter than this:site.com/homesite.com/products site.com/products/widgetsite.com/aboutsite.com/contactThanks for your opinion!

SEO Content Revolution Question
I was wondering if articles written about questions people are asking will help my website rank better. For example let's say I wrote an article answering the query, "What Hair Dye Does Angela Merkel Use?" or, "Is Hillary Clinton Thinking of Running for President," and they rank well on google, and in turn they get viewed a lot by searchers because it answers their queries. Would this help my website as whole start ranking better? Thanks!

Redirecting to homepage ok?
I deleted a bunch of category pages (renamed mostly actually and thought they'd be auto redirected like my blog posts are but they weren't) so I used a plugin that reroutes any 404 page to the homepage. Is that the best thing to do in this situation? Google Webmasters says there are about 84 404-errors and this should get rid of those right? Is there anything SEO BAD about doing it this way?

What does this mean on first step up setting up a campaign? "Having two "twin" domains that both resolve forces them to battle for SERP positions, making your SEO efforts less effective. We suggest redirecting one, then entering the other here."
I am BRAND new to this, and setting up my first campaign. I choose subdomain, and entered www.pdsaz.com. This is the message I receive: We have detected that the domain www.pdsaz.com and the domain pdsaz.com both respond to web requests and do not redirect. Having two "twin" domains that both resolve forces them to battle for SERP positions, making your SEO efforts less effective. We suggest redirecting one, then entering the other here.

Use 301 redirects when deleting old products?
I'm removing old products (wines) from my site, and I've been using 301 redirects for each product page back to the winery page. My question is, am I using best practice? I want people who search for these now nonexistent products to go to the winery page where they will see what is now available. But does google approve? I've also tried leaving the product's page intact but saying that it is no longer available and putting a link in the text that points to the winery page. Which is better, in the eyes of the god google? Thanks!
