      Hi MOZ community!

We're wondering what the implications would be on organic ranking by having 2 pages, which have quite different functionality were optimised for the same keywords.

So, for example, one of the pages in question is
      https://www.whichledlight.com/categories/led-spotlights
      and the other page is
      https://www.whichledlight.com/t/led-spotlights

both of these pages are basically geared towards the keyword led spotlights

the first link essentially shows the options for led spotlights, the different kind of fittings available, and the second link is a product search / results page for all products that are spotlights.

We're wondering what the implications of this could be, as we are currently looking to improve the ranking for the site particularly for this keyword. Is this even safe to do? Especially since we're at the bottom of the hill of climbing the ranking ladder of this keyword.

Give us a shout if you want any more detail on this to answer more easily 🙂

        Hi Cody,

If my keyword is "black hat", i have already a relevant page for black hat . And we get perfect ranking for this keyword from google

But if we would like to get more and more better ranking for Black Hat keyword for the black hat relevant page, we would like to create more internal links and external links

For that we have blogs or sometime we may create internal pages. if the content included "black hat", shall we create anchor link "Black hat" from these blog or newly created internal page to black hat relevant page

How many time can we add these type of link using the same keyword to black hat page? If the method is not good, please advise and help us

Could you please explain? or if any articles or blog regarding this subject, please advise

Oh I see, my apologies. Generally, you do not want two different pages attempting to rank for the same keyword because of keyword cannibalism (i.e. your pages will be competing with each other in the SERPs). I would change the search page to "Searching for LED Spotlights" or some other keyword specific to that page. I would assume the category page would convert leads better so changing the anchor text (led spotlights) on the "Searching for LED Spotlights" might help assuming you want the category page to rank higher in the SERPs.

            Hi Cody,

Does the video really answer the question though?
In his example he refers to 2 pages, that contain the same keyword, but one of the pages is clearly an offshoot from the main parent page...

Where we have 2 pages that is basically using the exact same keyword.
Unless of course we change the search result one to be more like.. 'Seaching for LED Spotlights'

Hi! This short video should explain what the best practice is in your situation.

              https://yoast.com/ask-yoast-same-keywords-multiple-pages/

In short, link to the page that you want to rank higher from the other page.

              Hope this helps!

Category Page as Shopping Aggregator Page

Hi, I have been reviewing the info from Google on structured data for products and started to ponder.
                https://developers.google.com/search/docs/data-types/products Here is the scenario.
You have a Category Page and it lists 8 products, each products shows an image, price and review rating. As the individual products pages are already marked up they display Rich Snippets in the serps.
I wonder how do we get the rich snippets for the category page. Now Google suggest a markup for shopping aggregator pages that lists a single product, along with information about different sellers offering that product but nothing for categories. My ponder is this, Can we use the shopping aggregator markup for category pages to achieve the coveted rich results (from and to price, average reviews)? Keen to hear from anyone who has had any thoughts on the matter or had already tried this.

What are best page titles for sub-domain pages?

Hi Moz communtity, Let's say a website has multiple sub-domains with hundreds and thousands of pages. Generally we will be mentioning "primary keyword & "brand name" on every page of website. Can we do same on all pages of sub-domains to increase the authority of website for this primary keyword in Google? Or it gonna end up as negative impact if Google consider as duplicate content being mentioned same keyword and brand name on every page even on website and all pages of sub domains? Thanks

Why differents browsers return different search results?

Hi everyone, I don't understand the reason why if I delete cookies, chronology, set anonymous way surfing in Chorme and Safari, I have different results on Google. I tried it from the same pc and at the same time. Searching in google the query "vangogh"  the internet site "www.vangogh-creative.it" is shown in the first page in Chrome but not in  Safari. I asked in Google webmaster forum, but nobody seems to know the reason of this behavior. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance. Massimiliano

Location Pages On Website vs Landing pages

We have been having a terrible time in the local search results for 20 + locations. I have Places set up and all, but we decided to create location pages on our sites for each location - brief description and content optimized for our main service. The path would be something like .com/location/example. One option that has came up in question is to create landing pages / "mini websites" that would probably be location-example.url.com. I believe that the latter option, mini sites for each location, would be a bad idea as those kinds of tactics were once spammy in the past. What are are your thoughts and and resources so I can convince my team on the best practice.

Should my back links go to home page or internal pages

Right now we rank on page 2 for many KWs, so should i now focus my attention on getting links to my home page to build domain authority or continue to direct links to the internal pages for specific KWs? I am about to write some articles for several good ranking sites and want to know whether to link my company name (same as domain name) or KW to the home page or use individual KWs to the internal pages - I am only allowed one link per article to my site. Thanks Ash

Is a different location in page title, h1 title, and meta description enough to avoid Duplicate Content concern?

I have a dynamic website which will have location-based internal pages that will have a <title>and <h1> title, and meta description tag that will include the subregion of a city.  Each page also will have an 'info' section describing the generic product/service offered which will also include the name of the subregion.  The 'specific product/service content will be dynamic but in some cases will be almost identical--ie subregion A may sometimes have the same specific content result as subregion B.  Will the difference of just the location put in each of the above tags be enough for me to avoid a Duplicate Content concern?</p></title>

Artist Bios on Multiple Pages: Duplicate Content or not?

I am currently working on an eComm site for a company that sells art prints. On each print's page, there is a bio about the artist followed by a couple of paragraphs about the print. My concern is that some artists have hundreds of prints on this site, and the bio is reprinted on every page, which makes sense from a usability standpoint, but I am concerned that it will trigger a duplicate content penalty from Google. Some people are trying to convince me that Google won't penalize for this content, since the intent is not to game the SERPs. However, I'm not confident that this isn't being penalized already, or that it won't be in the near future. Because it is just a section of text that is duplicated, but the rest of the text on each page is original, I can't use the rel=canonical tag. I've thought about putting each artist bio into a graphic, but that is a huge undertaking, and not the most elegant solution. Could I put the bio on a separate page with only the artist's info and then place that data on each print page using an <iframe>and then put a noindex, nofollow in the robots.txt file?</p> <p>Is there a better solution?  Is this effort even necessary?</p> <p>Thoughts?</p></iframe>

Are there any negative effects to using a 301 redirect from a page to another internal page?

For example, from http://www.dog.com/toys to http://www.dog.com/chew-toys. In my situation, the main purpose of the 301 redirect is to replace the page with a new internal page that has a better optimized URL. This will be executed across multiple pages (about 20). None of these pages hold any search rankings but do carry a decent amount of page authority.
