Shopify crawl issues
-
Hi Moz'ers,
I am a total newcomer to this level of seo. Recently I transitioned to Shopify and I'm puzzled by why I'm getting 803 errors - incomplete crawl attempts due to server timing out.
Wouldn't this have to do with Shopify? How would I go about fixing it? I'm also getting 804 - SSL issues, but I assume that will go away.
Any advice?
Thanks!
Sharon

Hello,
We are looking into this same issue with Shopify, we've recieved intermittent 803 and 804 error notifications from Moz on a Shopify store. Specific to these errors Shopify put forward a possible cause and we were wondering if this is correct or not. The thread on Shopify is located here:
https://ecommerce.shopify.com/c/ecommerce-marketing/t/crawl-errors-337539#comment-351993
Their suggestion on what the issue may be is as follows:
"I've been having a read through of this thread and one possibility for the 803 errors showing up on MOZ is that they may not be able to use SNI (Server Name Indication extension). If they don't use SNI then it would make sense that Shopify stores with an SSL certificate would pull up errors like that. We can't help troubleshoot MOZ's service directly, but that could be a good place to start with some of these errors."
Would you be able to offer any feedback on this being the cause of the errors?
Thanks!

Hi Marcus,
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!
I understand more about the errors, and will be more informed when I speak with Shopify. I don't have any way of checking this myself & it is above my pay grade, anyway.
I noticed this was a topic on the Shopify forum discussion groups. The discussion didn't last too long which leads me to believe either:
1. people give up, or
2. it ends up resolved. We'll see. In any event, thank you for taking the time to respond. I have just started using MOZ and I'm very impressed with this community!

1 page crawled ... and other errors
1. Why is only one (1) page crawled every second time you crawl my site? 2. Why do your bot not obey the rules specified in the robots.txt? 3. Why does your site constantly loose connection to my facebook account/page? This means that when ever i want to compare performance i need to re-authorize, and therefor can not see any data until next time. Next time i also need to re-authorize ... 4. Why cant i add a competitor twitter account? What ever i type i get an "uh oh account cannot be tracked" - and if i randomly succeed, the account added never shows up with any data. It has been like this for ages. If have reported these issues over and over again. We are part of a large scandinavian company represented by Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. The companies are also part of a larger worldwide company spreading across England, Ireland, Continental Europe and Northern Europe. I count at least 10 accounts on Seomoz.org We, the Northern Europe (4 accounts) are now reconsidering our membership at seomoz.org. We have recently expanded our efforts and established a SEO-community in the larger scale businees spanning all our countries. Also in this community we are now discussing the quality of your services. We'll be meeting next time at 27-28th of june in London. I hope i can bring some answers that clarify the problem we have seen here on seomoz.org. As i have written before: I love your setup and you tools - when they work. SEOmoz crawler not crawling my site
We set up a new campaign in SEOmoz on Friday. It is my understanding that the preliminary crawl can cover up to 250 and this has been our experience in the past. However, the preliminary crawl only went through 2 pages. This is a larger eCommerce site with many pages. Any ideas why more pages weren't crawled? We set up the campaign to track at the root domain level.

Only few pages (308 pages of 1000 something pages) have been crawled and diagnosed in 4 days, how many days till the entire website is crawled complete?
Setup campaign about 4-5 days ago and yesterday rogerbot said 308 pages were crawled and the diagnostics were provided. This website has over 1000+ pages and would like to know how long it would take for roger to crawl the entire website and provide diagnostics. Thanks!

Experencing page authority issues after a 301 redirect
We just completed a build of a new site and used 301 redirects to retain our page authority. In the first week all the interior pages reported a page authority of 1 after 2 or so weeks the page authority began to look more accurate but they were still not as high as the original pages. The strange thing is that when you click on the link to a page the page authority populates correctly but when the page finally finished loading the PA goes back down. Has anyone ever experienced this and if so how did you fix it? Thanks!

Crawl completed but no report available for download?
I put 2 crawls in the same day. One came back and delivered a report that I could download. The other one is completed (says so on the page) but there's no way for me to download the report. How do I get a hold of it? Thanks!

Crawl Diagnostics bringing 20k+ errors as duplicate content due to session ids
Signed up to the trial version of Seomoz today just to check it out as I have decided I'm going to do my own SEO rather than outsource it (been let down a few times!). So far I like the look of things and have a feeling I am going to learn a lot and get results. However I have just stumbled on something. After Seomoz dones it's crawl diagnostics run on the site (www.deviltronics.com) it is showing 20,000+ plus errors. From what I can see almost 99% of this is being picked up as erros for duplicate content due to session id's, so i am not sure what to do! I have done a "site:www.deviltronics.com" on google and this certainly doesn't pick up the session id's/duplicate content. So could this just be an issue with the Seomoz bot. If so how can I get Seomoz to ignore these on the crawl? Can I get my developer to add some code somewhere. Help will be much appreciated. Asif
