Would a mass data update have a negative effect on SEO?
-
We have a large eCommerce site with the ability to do an export, change data, and import new data in mass. Over the 15 years that this site has been growing, it has accumulated several inconsistencies in product titles, descriptions, title tags, etc.
The question is: If we were to update thousands of product titles (
's on those pages) and some of the descriptions, would it have a negative SEO impact because of the groundbreaking number of products effected? Or would it only be for the better if they were all technically improvements (both in SEO and UX)?
Thanks!

I totally agree that is scary, but then again safe.
But if I were in your shoes, I would make the change over a period of some time. As you are actually making the changes, which am guessing takes some time, you can at the same time uploading them so that Google views this effort as it is, an effort, and not a one day thing.
but on the other hand, you are not doing something wrong, just remember not to over-optimise!
-
I think it should not be a problem if what is intended is to fix and improve the descriptions and labels for your products. It is true that these things take a little scary.

I fully agree with Andy on this one.
If it fixes some mistakes and adds SEO-value I'd rather expect you to get positive results - not negative. As long as the URL's stay the same and that you're not making any groundbreaking changes (completely changing the product or something like that) I don't see any harm in getting stuff cleaned up at the same time.

Hi Christopher,
If all you are talking about is a few thousand pages, I wouldn't worry about it. Google handles enormous sites that have hundreds of thousands of pages added and removed with huge frequency. I can't think of any reason why this would be a negative hit if all you are doing is correcting your content.

Mass URL changes and redirecting those old URLS to the new. What is SEO Risk and best practices?
Hello good people of the MOZ community, I am looking to do a mass edit of URLS on content pages within our sites. The way these were initially setup was to be unique by having the date in the URL which was a few years ago and can make evergreen content now seem dated. The new URLS would follow a better folder path style naming convention and would be way better URLS overall. Some examples of the **old **URLS would be https://www.inlineskates.com/Buying-Guide-for-Inline-Skates/buying-guide-9-17-2012,default,pg.html

https://www.inlineskates.com/Learn/Buying-Guide-for-Aggressive-Skates,default,pg.html My worry is that we do rank fairly well organically for some of the content and don't want to anger the google machine. The way I would be doing the process would be to edit the URLS to the new layout, then do the redirect for them and push live. Is there a great SEO risk to doing this?
Is there a way to do a mass "Fetch as googlebot" to reindex these if I do say 50 a day? I only see the ability to do 1 URL at a time in the webmaster backend.
Is there anything else I am missing? I believe this change would overall be good in the long run but do not want to take a huge hit initially by doing something incorrectly. This would be done on 5- to a couple hundred links across various sites I manage. Thanks in advance,

Seo black hat tricks
I have a competitor in the local area. He registered a new domain name. www.orangecountypatentlawfirm.com. It was created back in 11/10 and updated a few months ago on 11/13. My domain is ocpatentlawyer.com. I put my domain and his domain in the open site explorer. The peculiar thing is that my competitors website mirrors identically to my domain. (see attached image) my competitors website rose through the SERP very fast. I never saw it coming. Anyways, I wanted to know if he was using some type of black hat seo trick to hi jack my domain authority to get his own website to rank higher? Plus, if so, does it hurt my ranking? compare.png

Tips for quick SEO
Hi guys (first time posting). I'm involved in many differnt marketing activities on an ecommerce site and don't always get a lot of time to focus on SEO (although I appreciate its importance). What are your tips for the most effective SEO tasks to focus on considering these time constraints? Think 80/20 applied to SEO. Thanks. Paul

Updating Youtube Videos
My company has a popular Youtube channel. Some of the videos are old, and lower quality than the new HD videos we host on our site. We'd like to get the new, better videos on Youtube, but we don't want to erase the viewcounts and comments of the old videos. We also don't want a duplicate content penalty, if that exists on Youtube. What should we do? We could: 1. Overwrite our old videos with the new ones, and lose the view counts 2. Add the new videos, and leave the old videos untouched 3. Add the new videos, and add some kind of redirect from the old videos 4. Do nothing. We want to embed the new videos on our site to increase our Youtube view counts, so options 1-3 are preferable. Has anyone faced a similar situation?

Can a Hosting provider that also hosts adult content sites negatively affect our SEO rankings on a non-adult site hosted on same platform?
We're considering moving a site to a host that also offers hosting for adult websites. Can this have a negative affect on SEO, if our hosting company is in any way associated with adult websites?

How to be a good SEO optimizer while competing with a good ranked Bad SEO optimizer?
My keywords are very competitive. My on page optimization report gives A grade for all the keywords I want to target to my Root domain. But my root domain does not show up on search engines for those same keywords. So thanks to SEOmoz i have managed to understand the place I lack is good link building. My competitors have done lot of link building through spamming, commenting on blogs, directories etc. Now according to good seo, this is not right. What do i do? I get digging more in it, i realized that i am getting traffic mostly for less globally searched keywords. But my competitors get high traffic from well searched keywords. How do i cope with such competition? Thanks
