Linking to Adsense heavy sites?
-
Hi SEOmoz community!
Hopefully a pretty straight forward question here...
Does anyone know if linking to "Adsense heavy" websites can have a negative impact on your rankings? Or a positive impact even?
Thes sites in particular are owned by a business aquintance, so they come from a trusted source even though the sites themselves look quite "spammy".
Also they all have pagerank of 1 or 2 and there's about 100 of the sites that we would link to.
Does anyone have any thoughts?
Regards,
Ash

Hi Lewis,
Thanks for your answer.
Yeah I watched that Whiteboard Friday (on Friday actually) and it was pretty interesting, however, correct me if I'm wrong but that was talking about rankings of your own site? I'm reffering to linking to such sites? Would those links be completely useless? Could they drag us down in the rankings? Or would they be better than nothing (we only have a handful of links at the moment)?
Regards,
Ash

Hi Ash
This weeks whiteboard Friday covered Negative rankign features and Adsense was featured.
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/googles-negative-ranking-factors-whiteboard-friday
At the link you can either watch the video or scroll through the transcript to the Adsense headign to see what was said.
SEOMoz's data suggests a negative correlation between Adsense and rankings.
Hope this helps.

Hi Theo, thanks for the quick response!
Hmm, they are owned by a customer of ours, I'm currently searching around for link building companies/freelancers (as we haven't done any considerable link building yet) but as this offer was on the table it seemed a simple place to start!

It was all good until you've mentioned that you intend to like to 100 'spammy looking' URLs. 'Just a couple' wouldn't have been a problem, but 100 (especially since you'll start linking to them in a short period of time) seems a bit much.
Linking out to bad neighbourhoods is seen as a general negative signal for your position in the search engines. This does make sense from the perspective that in the real world you don't want to be linked to too many bad neightbourhoods as well. Why exactly do you want to start linking to those 100 'spammy domains'?

Does an external link to an image file on my site help my SEO?
I found a few websites that are displaying images from my site. Curiously, they have also linked these images to the source image file on my website. I found these because Moz showed these sites in my list of backlinks. I assume that means it impacts my Domain Authority. But does this actually help me in search engines since it's not linking to a page on my site?

Why Links from Top Level Domains doesn't Pass Link Equity?
Hello, I have a doubt about Equity-Passing links report of OpensiteExplorer.org According to Sam Weber http://moz.com/community/users/432678 links which pass value from one page to another including followed 301 and Meta refresh links are under Equity-Passing links. I am surprising after looking at the links report generated by opensiteexplorer.org. Most of the article and directory links which have low DA and PA are under Equity-Passing links. Whereas websites like EzineArticle or Articlebase which have good DA and PA are not found in either Equity-passing links or under only nofollow category. Please suggest me if the report of Opensiteexplorer is not good enough or the links from the site like Ezine Article doesn’t pass the link equity. Thanks.

Pursuing Links on Sites You Have a Link From
Is it a bad idea to spend resources to get a second link from a site that already links to you? It seems like the marginal value of each additional link is much smaller than the first link.

Run of Site Links
I recently got a link from a relevant site but it ended up being a run of site link. The site has over 3,000 pages that now link to my site. Will my site get penalized for this?

Link building tools/sites
I am looking for a way to share my content in multiple locations to build back links without having to upload one at a time per location. For example- if i write an article and i upload it to ezine articles and then post it over on my blog- it will then post over on my twitter and facebook and linked in. However- how i can also get this article with back links into shared sites, bookmark sites, and other locations online to help build my inbound marketing for back links. I'm trying to find a way to save time while building out the links.
