404 Status Codes in Google Search Console
-
Hi all,
I've noticed in Google Search Console under 'Crawl errors' -
1. Why does the status code '410' come up as an 'error' in the crawl report?
2. Why are some articles labelled as '404' error when they have been completely deleted and should be a '410' - there are roughly around 1000-2000 of these.
Thanks!

1. It's listed as an error because that's what a "normal" visitor would consider this page to be if he would happen to visit it.
You don't really need to take action on it - if it's a deliberate choice and none of your pages are linking to it you can safely ignore the message. You might want to check if there are any external links pointing to the page - in that case you could check if you have a page with similar or updated content and redirect to the newer page. Check https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/35120?rd=1#common_url_errors#url_404 for more info
2. It's not because you delete a page that it's automatically rendering a 410 status. You control the status which is returned by your web server - you can always check the status of a page with tools like httpstatus.io. Google will simply show the status returned by your web server.

Multiple GA codes, one site.
Hi all, Is anyone running two GA codes on one website successfully? My organisation own a number of websites so we used to have one global GA code on all our sites to track global stats, and then we would also have site unique GA on each property to just track that one property. This worked fine, but of late we seem to be getting no data from the globally based code. Obviously, with the site-specific codes we can enter the name for that domain in GA but for the overall code, it is called 'all.com' I'm wondering if Google has now tied the GA domain to the code or if we are doing something wrong. All the codes are the same as they always were but have stopped working. As a stop gap, we have swapped to using Piwik as the all.com code. However, we are then comparing the stats in two different analytics programs so will get a different result. Also, it would be nice to be able to add the all.com to tools such as this to generate weekly reports. Anyone else having GA woe like this? Thanks. Carl

Visits from Google with ccTLD are showing as referrals
Hi!I was seeing on of my clients Analytics report and it shows that some of the main sites that send visits and get tagged as referral traffic are google.com.br, google.cl, google.com.ar, among others. Do you know why is this happening? Shouldn't they get tagged by default as organic?

ECommerce Tracking Code Installation
Hi All, Kindly explain how to implement eCommerce tracking code on the website.I am aware how to enable and generate eCommerce tracking code in Google Analytics but have confusion from website end. Also, where i read the steps, everywhere i read the below code: <script< span="">type="text/javascript"> var _gaq = _gaq ||[]; _gaq.push(['_setAccount','UA-XXXXX-X']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); _gaq.push(['_addTrans', '1234', // transaction ID - required 'Acme Clothing', // affiliation or store name '11.99', // total - required '1.29', // tax '5', // shipping 'San Jose', // city 'California', // state or province 'USA' // country ]); // add item might be called for every item in the shopping cart // where your ecommerce engine loops through each item in the cart and // prints out _addItem for each _gaq.push(['_addItem', '1234', // transaction ID - required 'DD44', // SKU/code - required 'T-Shirt', // product name 'Green Medium', // category or variation '11.99', // unit price - required '1' // quantity - required ]); _gaq.push(['_trackTrans']);//submits transaction to the Analytics servers (function(){ var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type ='text/javascript'; ga.async =true; ga.src =('https:'== document.location.protocol ?'https://ssl':'http://www')+'.google-analytics.com/ga.js'; var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s); })(); ----------------------------------------</script<> In the above code specific transaction id, SKU/code are mentioned. What will be the modifications in the above code if i have to track all products present on my eCommerce website??

Google Analytics question
Hi, I recently relaunched my site on a wordpress CMS. The relaunch has gone well except for a category of traffic within Google Analytics which is referral traffic from google.co.uk (its a UK site) which has dropped off hugely. The non-paid search traffic from google.co.uk is the same or better than it was. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between referral traffic from google.co.uk and non-paid search traffic from google.co.uk. Thanks for your help. Ben

Implications of Google discontinuing Website Optimizer
Hi Guys, As most of you probably know, Google is discontinuing Website Optimizer and introducing Experiments within Google Analytics. However, doesn't this mean that now, every site you want to run an experiment for has to be using Google Analytics? This is possibly one of the motivations for them making the change I guess? I also find it inconvenient that every 'experiment' now has to be based on improving a pre-defined goal in Google Analytics. This means that for a lot of situations we'll be creating goals just for the experiment and the clients actual goal conversions will appear quite inflated. I guess we'll just have to filter the new 'goals' out from the actual goals.
